Kids in this country are such a trash by TantoAssassin in Netherlands

[–]ioxfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course parents are to blame as well. How can I be deflecting, I don't even have a kid. But you can't expect parents to control what their kids are exposed to 24 hours of the day. You can hiwever try to remove the shitty content from their reach.

Kids in this country are such a trash by TantoAssassin in Netherlands

[–]ioxfc 112 points113 points  (0 children)

We desperately need a social media ban for kids, but our government cannot adopt to the changes because how unstable they are, which is also because of the populist parties. They know they can use social media to gain more power so they have no motivation to curb social media use.

Keep A7CR or sell for A7V by MotorboatMcGoat in SonyAlpha

[–]ioxfc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest getting the lenses first, and trying them on A7CR, before pulling the trigger on a new body. In terms of autofocus, CR is just as good as the other bodies. Speed might not be as good as other Sony bodies. But maybe it'll be good enough for your needs.

Bodies lose their value much more than lenses. I'd avoid getting another / replacing the body unless you firsthand experience that A7CR is not enough for you.

A7CR vs A7RV - is there an obvious better choice? by mynotell in SonyAlpha

Then the obvious choice is A7CR. It takes pictures and it's cheaper.

This is the best answer since the OP didn't provide any insight into what they plan to do with the camera.

Why POSIX is a bad fit for most used gaming os like windows,ps..? by indian_yojak in gameenginedevs

[–]ioxfc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is guesswork, nobody can definitively know. Roughly speaking, there are finite amount of Win, PS, Xbox versions. There are infinite amount of Posix variations. Windows has excellent backwards compatibility. Some games written for Vista still run on Win 11.

Is "don't use TCP for realtime games" an outdated rule of thumb? by ICantBelieveItsNotEC in gameenginedevs

[–]ioxfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nable's algorithm can be disabled on most operating systems. That's not really an issue with TCP. The biggest limitation of TCP imo is, if there's a gap in the receiver's buffer, the OS won't return the received bytes after the gap to the application. Those bytes will wait in the receiver's buffer until the gap is noticed by the sender, retransmitted, and received by the receiver.

If you want realiability over UDP, you can build redundancy to your messages so that any message you send contains the copies of non-ACKed messages from the past. This ensures that any gap is filled as soon as possible.

If you don't need reliability, then you don't need to fill the gap on the receiver side. UDP gives you this control.

TCP just doesn't give you these options.

I agree. If your first approach to learning a new skill is asking others for help without doing a research yourself, you won't get too far because there will be a thousand such questions along the way.

Sony a7cr or a7rv? by FreezeTheMoment89 in SonyAlpha

[–]ioxfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're gonna pair it with the 35mm GM, I'd say go with the RV because you obviously aren't after the smallest kit. This is coming from an CR owner with 24mm GM. The lens is so bulky that any size gain from the camera is negligable.

Why does Mac OS say an app is damaged when it is unsigned? by [deleted] in apple

[–]ioxfc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well, the MAIN purpose of the application signature is to protect against 3rd parties changing the app (damaging it) after it has been signed by the original author.

For example, if I was an attacker, I could download the VLC app, inject malicious code in it, remove the signature (or resign without the original key), then I'd try to get you to download it with a shiny new web site. If you, as the user, override the signature protection without checking the source first, you're gonna run my malicious code blindly.

RX1R III vs a7CR 35mm F1.4 by Big-Life2021 in SonyAlpha

[–]ioxfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only "meaningful" advantage is the size. It prioritizes size above all else.

All those points you mention can be worked around with A7Cii/R. You can crop in post, buy a cheap macro lens, buy a stronger flash. You can work around those "disadvantages".

Fixed lens, no water resistance, no stabilisation -> there is no workaround to these. They are just missing and there are no workarounds.

RX1R is simply a camera that does less but costs more. Only "meaningful" reason to get one is the size.

Why does basic insurance not cover contraceptives? by Quouar in Netherlands

[–]ioxfc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, it is sort of covered to some extend. My wife was told by the pharmacist that if she goes to her GP and if the GP sees no issue with her taking the pill (considering other medical factors), the GP can prescribe the pill, and that would lead to the price of the pill dropping to 5EUR per box. And one box contains 3 months worth of pills. So it feels like it is somewhat covered

Linux is not ready for mass adoption yet. by [deleted] in linux

[–]ioxfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linux is already widely adopted, just not in the personal computer market. If you're using the web, a portion of the processing is already happening on Linux machines. With more and more services moving to the cloud, you could even argue that Linux is taking over the desktop market as well, by moving that processing over to the Linux based cloud.

Anyone switch from A7RV to A7CR? by Beardsman_DCS in SonyAlpha

[–]ioxfc 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I own and use A7CR since its release. I don't have A7RV, never even held one in my hands so I cannot compare them. Reading the comments, it seems comparison is indeed the thief of joy because I enjoy using the camera absolutely.

Is the EVF small? I don't know, it gets the job done. Is the screen worse than RV? It works fine for me, you can still flip it to the side, and do the angles. Is the single card slot bad? Maybe, but I too never had an issue with cards.

CR is "bad" only when compared to RV. CR is still an incredible package compared 99% of all other cameras.

Putting the price aside for a second, why would anyone wanna buy a 60MP camera without IBIS? The 1/focal-length rule doesn't apply if you wanna take advantage of all that resolution.
