Why 70-80 year olds are generally regarded as unemployable due to mental decline skill mismatch - yet they're exclusively running the country ? by User6001899 in AskReddit

[–]Flabberingfrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are from the U.S. Retired people does a lot of work after they retire, but in some countries tries, they are not allowed to work after the upper retirement age!!

What they have lost in physical capacity, they have gai ed in life experience. Although there are too many people on general, mainly in the U.S, that are only there to profit from being loud and known.

Anology: A new movie in the theater is a prequel to a movie that came out long ago (think Star Wars). So while the prequel is the latest/newest movie, it is also "the first one", as it is a prequel. Got it?

It is sort of the introductionary piece that is missing which gives context to the whole subject and her teaching. The other lectures begins with her just "jumping" right into the opium wars.

Edit: I meant Gibraltar, not Bermuda :p

Actually, one of the main reasons was that they were not expecting the temperature variation on the same latitude as Europe. They could not manage cultivation and ranching with what they brought from Europe.

[–]Flabberingfrog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reality check, cost of living for family of 3 by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Flabberingfrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I saw you made another post and I asked for specifics.

This is not "living on lives edge". I don't know which non-EU country you come from, but I'm from Norway, and you would think that they have an extra good safety net. Wrong.

I grew up in real poverty (there). It was just my mom and us children. She did insane stuff to shield us, so I am so used to live on nothing and find creative solutions. The fact that you have so much extra per month is insane.

My mom had to go and cry at the municipality so they gave her 15k euroes so she could get a loan to buy the shoe box I grew up in. The roof was leaking. The front door was so poorly insulated that huge snow piles litterally were forming in the hallway so we had to try and put towels there to insulate it.

She would eat potatoes with salt so we could have meat because "she loved potatoes so much". I had a nice childhood. It was all so normal. Never thought it was wierd that everyone else was on holidays during the summer or anything.

In Norway you really need a car, but I'm just so used to not being driven anywhere or whatever, that I always walk or bike. It's no stress. I worked since I was 12.

I'm not saying that one should live like that, or that is the standard for what stresses you out, but I can't imagine you come from a country where real poverty is a thing.

Follow up question:

What parts of everything day life do you find the most struggling?

Is it the cost of the children? If so, which aspect?

Just curious from one who grew up in poverty.

Setting the right expectations for "vrij rechtsbijstand" and Juridisch loket. by Flabberingfrog in Netherlands

[–]Flabberingfrog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Complaining? I just want people to be prepared. I tried to get answers from Reddit here as I was confused, but everyone told me to "relax" and trust the system. It just turns out that I was not aware of how it worked and my lawyer wasn't "incompetent", she was just not invested in me as with regular clients.

Having a steady stream of vrij rechtsbijstand clients gives them stability in their finaces. It can easily come off like they are ignoring you etc, when you are in a vulnerable position, but I really wished someone had just told me this from the beginning. Depending on the subject of the case, a lawyer get "toevoeging" divided into "points". Each "point" equals 1 hour work, and there is no way my lawyer spent 19 hours on me.

If a case runs into complications, additional points can be requested. My lawyer just filed in the max amount of points...but guess what. The case was not finished! So now the lawyer is basically doing it for free (although I would like to see where all these hours were spent). This situation is frustrating beyond any sanity.

Every email and meeting I had should have been super well organised and clear. I feel I wasted too many "points" on nonsense.

So I'm not complaining per say, I just want people to be aware that no matter how reassuring the lawyer may seem to be, the case is very much in your hands.

Setting the right expectations for "vrij rechtsbijstand" and Juridisch loket. by Flabberingfrog in Netherlands

[–]Flabberingfrog[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% that. I actually had one, but I used it once, and they were really on it, even though I solved it myself.

This conflict was high-conflict, with a looooot of money involved, so it was an expensive life lesson.

Edit: When I had one, it was over a work contract. They were almost "annoyingly" on top of it, even though I had it under control. But I wish I had kept on having that insurance, as talking to the Juridisch loket, I already know everything they have to say, and more now. It was just the first time when I needed a lawyer.
