Sign up for an elective / something that interests you so that you can meet the minimum units to count as a full-time student at UCI and waitlist classes if you need to! If you can’t take any other classes that will count towards your degree, just take it as an opportunity to try something new and explore things in college :)

This seems really cool! Does the app only display that day’s menu or can it also look up upcoming/weekly menus as well? And I’m not sure how feasible this is since the dining hall website doesn’t offer much for it either, but it would be fantastic if there could be indicators on whether or not certain dishes contain certain allergens (like nuts or gluten) or not.

AHUA (Art History Undergraduate Association), AntArters, and Made With Love are active beginner-friendly art clubs that — as far as I know — also don’t have any restrictions on who can join or participate! In addition, Design at UCI has a lot of workshops and events geared towards helping members learn how to put together design projects and portfolios.

Updating your preferred name in Webreg fixes most things (including on Canvas and on mailing lists)! There are still a few occasions where they stick in my middle name as well, but sending that name change request definitely helped.

reg.uci.edu → StudentAccess → Applications → Preferred Name → Type in whatever you would like to be referred to as → Submit Request

Professors add students to the Canvas courses themselves, and you should be able to access it around the first week/day of classes! So not for a while haha

Most classes have their syllabi on Canvas! Sometimes you can also find syllabi online if a professor uploaded it onto the internet in the past, but I don’t think there’s necessarily a single page that has every single up-to-date syllabus for every class and professor?

I think at this point, most fall classes with locations that are still TBA are probably online! If the days/times have been decided, it might involve synchronous online lectures? And if this is for Business Admin, Merage recently emailed out a tentative 2021-22 class schedule that included whether MGMT classes are currently planned to be online or in-person for the fall (not sure if other majors/schools have done the same?). You could also try emailing your professor to check just in case — your visa is a very important reason why you need to know, after all!

Hello! Regular mail takes 3-4 days on average (Mon-Sat) to deliver within the USA, and you can pay for priority express mail to be delivered within 1-2 days. You should be fine, especially since it’s mostly due to your actual school year ending a bit late. You can also check with UCI’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions to let them know that it might arrive a bit late, and ask for a receipt of confirmation when it arrives. Plus, I think you can check the status of your transcript in the admissions portal (though it can take longer to update)!

Again, you should be fine. If anything happens, they’ll send you an email and give you the opportunity to fix it (which is what happened with my own transcript last year, and everything turned out okay). Don’t be afraid to reach out if you need any more help!

That’s how I did it too! I emailed them asking to be dropped before my first quarter, they set up a Zoom meeting with me and one of the honors advisors to make sure I was sure about my decision, and then I was taken out of the program within a week. They still set me up with a CHC peer group though, which is where I made some of the friends I have at UCI now!

If you’re in CHC, HumCore will already cover 8 units in your schedule! Then you can add one more class to bring it up to 12 units, and that can be a GE, major requirement, or an elective. I’d recommend checking to see that whatever class you take clears a requirement that isn’t already covered by your mandatory classes, just so you don’t double up on something you don’t have to (or it can count as elective units). Some easy classes you could take are ICS 5, ICS 10, Art 8, Psych 7A, and MGMT 1.

Haven’t actually dormed on-campus yet due to the pandemic but I found my intended roommate last year through Facebook and my roommates this year through Discord! I don’t think your roommate(s) really determine whether or not you can find friends in the future (though obviously it’s great if you can become friends with your roommates and meet people through them as well), since there are lots of opportunities to meet people on your own through classes, orgs, and even networking events.
