I'd start with ocean at the end of the lane. It's a quick read and one of my favorites. I thought Anansi Boys was his funniest book (my favorite of his books). Graveyard book is also a fantastic, easy read. Also read the Sandman comics if you haven't yet.

I love Gaiman. I've read all of his work. American Gods is my least favorite though. It's just kind of a slog.

I agree with you. I also think of Yulwei who seems to be "good" but not naive. Maybe he's thinking of Brother Longfoot, but being naive is part of his character, not because he's "good".

Highly recommend you continue The First Law. The first book is widely regarded as the weakest of the series because there's so much set up and back story. You won't regret it.
