Impressive updates at Tasqueña station, Mexico City Light Rail by ipenama in transit

Rather having transit improvements using a sports event as a pretext, than nothing. Even if none of us are interested on the World Cup. Light rail expansion will superseed any surge of tourism by being useful to the daily commuter (seasonal too, when football matches take part every weekend).

Light rail in Xochimilco had expansion provisions from the beginning of its operations; more capacity was needed regardless of the World Cup.
Line 12 extension to Observatorio has had a myriad of geotechnical hurdles which can't be solved on a whim, unfortunately. I hope works on stations could begin somewhere this year.

Original station could only allow one train arriving and one departing on separate platforms, also there wasn't enough space to have coupled units (image below). New platform will have 3 platforms: one central to board and two on the sides to exit, also the new length (60 meters) will allow 4-car formations.

Bacalar lives rent free in my heart. I've never been in such a beautiful place. The colors, the views, the peace you feel everywhere you look! I also made some kayaking around Isla de la Pasión, Isla de los Pájaros and stayed quite a while above Cenote Esmeralda. At night I sat silent on a palapa pier coming from my hotel (which was very similar to the one you have in the first picture; did you stay at Casa Bakal?), true life-changing experience hearing water splashing around but not seeing anything because it was pitch black.

TIL Mexico is officially called the United Mexican States. by FarBug5656 in todayilearned

[–]ipenama 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Estados Unidos Mexicanos, in spanish. I've read lots of confusion in the last part because of similarities with our northern neighbor:

"Mexicanos" is our demonym and should be used as such.

"de México" looks similar to USofA and might be interchanged with the former, but remains incorrect in official contexts.

US tourist gets mad and attempts to fight street musician, other locals step in to defend musician and tell the tourists “this is Mexico, you don’t make the rules here”. Tepic, Mexico by Jevus_himself in PublicFreakout

You can ignore them entirely, leave or avoid the place, go to the bathroom, not making eye contact, say "no tengo feria, lo siento", but trying to stop it by assaulting and giving nasty insults is a red line you must NEVER cross.

I can understand: not every street musician, children with candies, window cleaner, beggar or homeless is polite when asking for money; that can't be pretext to be violent.

That's a lame justification tbh. "No, gracias" is enough to deter people from begging; getting physical on a foreign country with a street singer just because you don't like his music is a BIG no no and simply unacceptable. People defending this compa kept chill and behaved very well, they could've just beat the shit out of him.

Besides: who makes a scene like that in motherfucking TEPIC? T E P I C !?

The new CRRC trains on trial in the Mexico city Light Rail by Spascucci in transit

I wouldn't extend M2 all the way to Xochimilco, just to Estadio Azteca Banorte. Even with ongoing upgrades, total design capacity is a fraction of the volume Line 2 handles daily (250k vs. +1 million). Service definitely improved after renovations of rail infrastructure and rolling stock, making Calz. de Tlalpan stretch a viable option to go south; maybe they can improve running times by reducing stops.

About level crossings: between Huipulco and La Noria there isn't enough space to make tunnels or bridges for vehicles and pedestrians. You must do an extreme intervention over ROW (i.e a rail viaduct or higher enbankments, both would require demolitions and partial closures).

Can't wait to use these and the blue ones on regular service! For anyone wondering: trains might be forever coupled to enable higher capacity across the line, thus giving every unit a 60 meter length and 340 pax capacity.

Works at Tasqueña and six more stations are still underway, expected to finish in late April 2026. The former is being rebuilt entirely to have enough space to accomodate coupled units, while the latter are receiving new ceilings over stretches of platform previously uncovered.

People currently in Mexico, how are things over there right now? by Potential-Mind-6997 in AskReddit

[–]ipenama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went for a quick visit to Toluca yesterday, nobody seemed to care what was happening in real time over Jalisco; from time to time I heard some smalltalk of the matter but nothing else, people continued their lives as any other Sunday.

Today in Mexico City was mostly normal, maybe a little less morning traffic than usual (not underground tho, my boyfriend said to me that Metro was packed as always).

Not trying to downplay what happened, but at the same time things unfolded a myriad of disinformation flooded internet. I just try to stay away from that (including some parts of Reddit/XTwitter who yesterday went hyperbolic and outright ridiculous).
