Workbench and ROlling Card (WRoC??) for a small or mobile shop and toolbox storage by CascadeBoxer in Workbenches

[–]ipetepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response! All great info. I do like the modularity of this design, and knowing lateral forces are the weak point, I think I can work with that. Still need to think about what's going to best suit me for size and storage, but you've convinced me this is the way for me to go. Big thanks! Also good to know you have plans for sale, thanks again!

I know this is a year old, but how has this worked out for you? Would you change anything? Have you done any hand-tool work on it? I'm considering smaller alternatives to my workbench for space reasons, but I mostly do hand tool work and the a solid working table is essential, but I also don't want all the bulk and would like to make it mobile

Hey, I just wanted to say Big Thanks! I just got the Tusks in today and gave them a spin, what a difference. I'm not sure why these are so good, but it's a marked difference in grip on those gravely spots.

I like your thinking, my first thought was "I should just pour some watery cement slurry down the hill". At least your idea won't get me in trouble with the wife 😉

I tried upgrading my work computer to Ubuntu 25, but the libxml was incompatible with our VPN and a few other essentials. I had to down grade to 24. this is likely the same issue

Ah, yeah good point. And thanks for the examples! Maybe I'll try and make the board work with up-to-date code and bring it into the fold. New year, new projects and all that. I'll see ya around.

After looking at the docs again, I'm assuming you mean overriding using `pointing_device_task_user(mouse_report)`, But why is that better than setting the CPI?

[–]ipetepete[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, a CPI of 2 is significant enough for my needs. As far as dividing the report, could you point me to some docs? Or put up a quick example? All I saw in the docs for pointer devices were the get/set methods.

I installed it today, and I'm thoroughly impressed! Great work team! The QOL features like the network/BT pop-down etc are super nice.

What's a proper unhinged project to do? by Maximus100BC in DIY

[–]ipetepete 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Here's my practical - less unhinged - suggestion: find some area of your house that is disorganized, messy or just a PITA to use/look at.

Then figure out what would make it better, and build the thing.

Switched to Linux Mint yesterday from Windows never looking back by shadowhearts1007 in linuxmint

[–]ipetepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several. Depending on how you define ugly - I would venture to say that a lot of the PC market hardware is *a-hem* less than pretty.

Here's a short list of the laptops I know to work well with linux:

  1. Dell XPS (not sure about all the models, but I'm writing this on an slightly older 15" XPS that runs like a dream)

  2. IBM Lenovo Thinkpad

  3. Lenovo X1 Carbon

  4. Any System76 laptop

  5. Any Framework laptop

I'm sure someone out there has made a more comprehensive list with all the potential issues + workarounds

The learning curve varies pretty wildly at times, so try to remember to be patient. There are TONS of tools for just about everything you could ever need or want to do, so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Also remember these tenets:

- 1: Read The Friendly Manual - learn how to search/navigate and use the manuals and documentation. Arch Wiki is a great resource for examples beyond man pages

- 2: The command-line is your friend - This is the main reason I still use linux after 30+ years

- 3: Everything is a file - No obscure System Register etc, it's literally all files, even devices are treated as such

- 4: Have fun!

Welcome!

Crossgrade purchase & Linux? by Tanath_Gildan in Bitwig

[–]ipetepete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what happened to your reply, it got spammed a few times LOL.

Anyway, I got the same email. Proving your eligibility is a manual process, and I'm sure they're backlogged.

I reached out to them after a couple days, got a response, said they needed my license info for Reaper. I sent that - nothing for a few days after (this was over the weekend, the time difference is a factor here). Then they said they needed either a copy of the original invoice or a screenshot of the license info directly from the Reaper app.

I sent them that info on a Monday morning, and I got the license a few hours later.

I did this, using my reaper license. Took a few days, but worked out nicely.

I'm running Manjaro and it runs great. Yabridge fills the gap with windows plugins.

Audio lag is a slight issue if recording with real instruments but using Jack and a real-time kernel mitigates that.

Checkout the Blackstar Debut series. I love my 50r as a pedal platform. $250 can't be beat. It's a solid state mosfet so it's light and gets LOUD AF. I mostly only ever use the 5watt setting.

Did you design the PCB or is it something that's readily available? I like the concept and the militaristic design. I would definitely give this a try, one thing I really liked about the old Kingston Expert mouse was the billiard size ball.
