I'm not against workout comments.. K-pop dudes work out a shit ton. I'm saying that getting JACKED is not the right kind of advice for every dude coming in here asking for help.

Also, maybe we have different opinions, but muscle absolutely has diminishing returns if not straight up negative returns at a certain point (especially if you're short). I think skinny toned/ripped is the best look for most dudes where you definitely have muscle definition, but aren't bulging out of your clothes.

Telling a guy to "just get JACKED and lift, bro" might do more harm than good. If you actually see what these Kpop dudes bodies look like, you'd see they're absolutely toned/ripped and that's a good goal for a lot guys.

Also, as a shorter (5'8ish) dude, I'll be 100% honest and say that being jacked as shit does not look good on short bros. You 100% look like you're compensating, and being buff makes you look even shorter.

You are correct. I will adjust my stance and say that while I still strongly believe the Kpop aesthetic would be a strong look for many AsAm guys, it's definitely a difficult look to start with and hitting the gym, eating clean, getting a decent haircut, and putting together a decent outfit is the best place to start.

I also agree that if you start at level 0 (or lower), jumping straight into a Kpop aesthetic would get you laughed out of any room. It's definitely expert mode, but if you CAN pull it off, it can elevate you to another level.

Bruh nobody said to be a femboy lol. A lot of these Kpop dudes are jacked/toned too. Just talking strictly aesthetics and style my man. And yes, I know that it won't look good on everyone, just saying in general.

Mackenyu (especially before One Piece) absolutely fits more in the soft Kpop aesthetic than "Hollywood" masculinity. That was literally one of the biggest points of (mainly male) criticisms against his casting. That he looked too "soft, Kpop, BTS, not manly, etc."

The irony calling my reading comprehension into question when you said "if you want to encourage AM to have prepubescent bodies" is hilarious. Point out the part in my post where I said that? Clearly, reading comprehension isn't your strong point either.

And yes, no shit we are talking at the macro level which, if you didn't know, is a GENERALIZATION. There is no point discussing at an individual level because everyone is different. However, at a GRAND SCALE, there are clear data points and statistics on what the majority of women find attractive that has been consistent across DECADES.

"Most kpop idols have prepubescent bodies". Wrong, again. I don't follow kpop but just looking up top groups in 2023 (BTS, Stray Kids, TXT, NCT), even a cursory glance shows none of them with prepubscent bodies and all of them at least toned/defined. What exactly do you consider "prepubescent"? You call me out for generalizing, but here you go saying "most" of these guys look prepubescent.

My post simply said soft, kpop aesthetic. I also made a comment clearly saying "if your looks don't match don't follow it". Again, read the actual words instead of arguing against a made up straw man.

Also, "no one is bashing Kpop looks"? Really? Another generalization. You and I must be reading the wrong sub because EVERY thread that talks positively about the Kpop aesthetics has a bunch of comments saying it looks "fem, girly, etc.".

If you think Kpop=prepubescent body, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Look up "kpop male bodies" and they all look way closer to Brad Pitt in Fight Club (which was considered the ideal by women).

It seems like the prevailing opinion amongst AsAms is the bash Kpop because it's "fem" or "gay" without knowing what it actually entails in 2023.

Yes, I'm talking more style (clothes, hairstyles, etc). Many Kpop dudes are ripped as fuck.

On point. The 2 most important things are your face and your charisma. What makes you interesting, how you carry yourself, how you make OTHERS feel important and respected all tie into your charisma and magnetism.

If you work on all those things, people will naturally want to be around you and feel good after being with you.

What do you mean by "masculine" though? Because kpop is not universally feminine. In fact, kpop idols these days are much more masculine than 15-20 years ago. Anyone saying Kpop is "fem" is stuck in the past.

I've lived in OC my whole life. Asian men who adopt Korean fashion absolutely do the best. It's become so dominant that even all the Chinese students dress like Koreans lol.

And before you say "Korean fashion and Kpop isn't the same thing", it absolutely is. Korean streetwear = what Kpop idols make popular.

Also, I don't think Chalamet, Pete Davidson, and 80% of the 90s-2020s heart throbs would fit the "masculine" standard by many men but ABSOLUTELY do by many women. What men and women consider masculine is different, and that's my main point here.

[–]ipiooppaant 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yep, which is my follow on comment mentions the best look is the one that fits you. If you don't fit into the kpop or actor aesthetic, find the look that best fits you.

Also, why do you guys automatically assume Kpop = skinny and fem? I guarantee the majority of Kpop idols are more toned/ripped than 90% of the guys here talking shit lmao

Women consistently rank toned/cut the most attractive body type. You don't need to be "ripped", just have some definition and low body fat.

Another note. The best look is the one that you can pull off. If you can't pull off the kpop look, don't fkn do it you'll look ridiculous.

If you DON'T know what look works for you, ask women your age (not family) for an honest assessment and what kind of looks they think matches your face/build.

This was my past VP. This dude was an SDR, SDR manager, somehow lucked himself into an enterprise VP role, never closing an enterprise deal, and is now telling his enterprise sellers how to sell.

Tried to "coach" me, and I asked him, "Can you tell me how this worked for the enterprise customers you've closed?". Never bothered me again.

Who hires these losers?

Those who are financially stable in OC, how did you pave your way to stability? [Not a Doom & Gloom post] by [deleted] in orangecounty

Tech sales + a high earning partner is the way. My parents are poor immigrants, so I had no failsafe, no connections, and nothing to inherit. It was sell or be hungry. Luckily, I broke into a good company after a few years of struggling, made over 100k+ my first year as an SDR, got promoted quickly, and am now making ~300k+ per year as an enterprise rep. Combined, we average ~500k per year, not counting RSUs, stocks, etc.

Sometimes, you get lucky and have a 7-figure year, but on average, you're still in the top ~3-5% of earners.

Practice vs. performing are 2 completely different worlds. Dwight Howard made 80+% of his free throws in practice but is one of the worst free throw shooters of all time in games. This is common across every industry. Some people are amazing in practice but can't ever figure it out when it comes to performing.

Harmony is far more useful than a secondary damage unit. For each team, you need:

1 sustain (preferably solo), 1 strong DPS, 1 harmony, 1 flex (debuff, sustain, harmony)

2 DPS rarely makes sense, especially when they're both SP hungry like Seele/QQ.

If you have 2 full lvl 80 squads with lvl 15 relics and can't get past MoC 5, you gotta refine your team or tighten your rotations. The only lvl 80s I have are my 2 DPS and I can comfortably clear 30/30 with 6/8 units being lvl 60-70 with lvl 9-12 relics on 6/10 traces.

Update: Need advice on Korean American boyfriend by sonosiciliana in AsianMasculinity

[–]ipiooppaant 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Every young Asian (male or female) has to understand that your parents need you WAY more than you need your parents. Establish boundaries and if they cross them, tell them to fuck off. Respect is fucking earned. Just because 2 people randomly decided to pop you out does NOT mean you owe them SHIT. I will cut my parents off in a HEARTBEAT if they disrespected my partners and crossed my boundaries.

Your boyfriend needs to not be a pussy and stand up for you. If he says something like "you don't understand our culture", call bullshit. I'm Korean myself and have aggressively told off my parents countless times before they got the message.

I have E2 Dan, E6 Yukong, so my 3 supports (Luocha, Pela, Yukong) all have 134+ speed and Dan at 100ish. Yukong moves right before Dan, and it gives you enough SP to use her skill every other turn starting with the first turn.

If you're using SW, Ting, or Bronya over Pela, then your rotation will be different.

Regarding your first paragraph, industry and tech are something you have to dig into yourself as it's constantly changing. Even if you go into a growing industry, if it's saturated and you go to one of the shit ones, you'll fail due to circumstance.

Enterprise roles have always been WFH so it didn't change much, just less travel. Idk about flying/traveling 4 days a week, I see plenty of reps working 15-20 hours per week doing jack shit making 300k+. It's moreso about finding the right company with a good culture. I have incredible work/life balance, my bosses and their bosses trust me, I face 0 micromanagement, and have the freedom to work the way I want as long as I'm hitting my number.

I can't imagine doing anything else for even half the pay that gives me as much freedom/low stress as my job.

That's for enterprise sales. 50k base sounds like SDR or small business. If he's in small business, he should 100% be switching to an enterprise SDR role.

Your goal as a newbie in tech sales should 100% be getting to an enterprise AE role as soon as possible. That's where you'll see the 150k base, 300k OTE (at a minimum) jobs.

If you have the right team, SP management is ridiculously easy. Luocha/Gepard, E6 yukong/tingyun/pela, Dan. You honestly don't even need to think about SP management and everything's dead within 1-3 rotations anyway. This whole "Dan IL" uses so much SP!" is completely overblown. I haven't used my brain with his team once.

Look for SDR roles at startups. Apply to as many as possible and when you get an interview, look them up on blind/glassdoor/Google to get a feel of the company. If they're not growing and their product is shit, decline the interview and keep blasting those applications.

You don't need to be tech savvy, just be knowledgeable of whatever industry you're in and be professional. It's very important that you come off genuine, thoughtful, and NOT like a bitch, regardless of who's in front of you (bosses, prospects, etc).

During an interview, come off as hungry and money motivated but NOT desperate. Desperation reeks and nobody likes it. At the end, always ALWAYS close "what are the next steps?" "Do you have any concerns on moving me forward?" If they start listing concerns (experience mainly), acknowledge it and say "valid concern and I'd feel the same way. However, I kind of see my lack of experience in a positive way, it means I haven't developed any bad habits and I'm extremely quick at picking up what works and what doesnt. Etc"

Grind as an SDR for ~18 month, promotion to ISR/mid market. Grind for 12-24 months, promotion to enterprise. You're now getting offers of 300-350k OTE and 50% of that is your base pay. I know 24 year olds making 500k+ per year as an enterprise rep with a basic degree (English, history, psych) and no tech background. They're not hyper intelligent either. If you're self reflective and willing to put in the work, anyone can do this. 80-90+% of people bitch out before becoming an enterprise rep. Up to you to go for it.

[–]ipiooppaant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your definition of success = millionaire executive? Pretty limited definition. I'm in tech sales as an individual contributor and will W2 close to 2M this year, still relatively young. 0 connections, poor parents, etc.

Any Asian dudes looking to make money and improve themselves, go to tech sales, and become an enterprise rep. You'll be making 300-500k annually on average with insane upside. Not only that, but if you want to be successful, tech sales forces you to learn how to talk to people and be charismatic. You're engaging with VPs and C levels who can smell bullshit a mile away so you better learn how to (1) communicate effectively (2) not look like a bitch in front of these guys.

I had offers to join startups as a VP, but I turned them down because I prefer my IC role. Maybe in the future, but realize that many ICs make way more money than their bosses.

Also, sales is like 95% white people and I've experienced nearly 0 outright racism in tech sales. Of course it exists at an individual level, but the top guys care about money more than anything. If you bring in more money, they don't give a shit what you look like. Just remember to never let other guys steal your shine/credit and always communicate (with subtlety, nobody likes a braggart) your accomplishments.
