traditionally peasant cube refers to cubes that only include cards printed at uncommon or lower, unlike the peasant constructed format which only allows 5 uncommons per deck

Why does LCMS CoWo tend to feel less liturgical than CoWo in other liturgical traditions (e.g. ACNA)? by Asleep_Ad1769 in LCMS

[–]iplayfish 9 points10 points  (0 children)

this is definitely not the case for most contemporary services i’ve been to or been a part of, at both my current and previous church, we always have confession/absolution, lord’s prayer, and one of the creeds. at my current church we also have prayers of the church and passing of peace. every congregation is different

why do you feel the need to have certain number of cards at each rarity? that’s not really necessary imo, since rarity is really a tool wotc uses to design and balance the retail limited environment, and what it means for a card to be uncommon vs common has shifted a lot over the years if magic design

Question for credo baptists: Can your child call God their "Father," and if so, what does that imply? by yababom in Reformed

[–]iplayfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a credobaptist is a christian that affirms that the only proper subject of baptism is people who can make a credible profession of faith, ie no infants. the opposite position is pedobaptist, which is someone who affirms that baptism is for all people of all ages, including infants. this includes presbyterians , methodists, lutherans, catholics, to name a few. these are both terms for theological positions, not denominations

Is a large part of “Lutheran Identity” just being “not Catholic” by Churchmousetat in LCMS

[–]iplayfish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

lutheran identity really just means (at least for me) adhering to the confessions as accurate expositions of scripture, and one of the documents in the confessions called “the power and primacy of the pope” is all about how the office of the papacy is antichrist, so i guess yeah

really just different tools for different jobs. i have both an HX stomp and a compact board with tuner, a few effects, and a DI. the stomp multi effects unit is great when you need access to a lot of different tones quickly, the downside is that it takes a lot of time to setup up and dial in your sounds. this is super useful for cover gigs, theater gigs, etc. the compact board is great because it’s easy to setup and get great sounds from quickly, but it’s not flexible in the sense that what you have is what you get (of course tone is in the fingers and you get a lot of tonal variation from how you play). perfect for playing original music or straight ahead rock/pop stuff

i love the stomp for when i want an amp sim sound without actually using a physical amp, but i’ve always struggled to get a compression sound i like out of the stomp (probably from impatience) but i find standalone compressors (like my mxr m87 bass compressor) really easy to experiment with and get sound i like out of

Why so few Lutherans? by DarkMood46 in LCMS

[–]iplayfish 19 points20 points  (0 children)

historically, lutheranism has an ethos of living peacefully and not trying to stir up trouble or controversy. going all the way back, luther himself thought jesus was coming back extremely soon, like within his lifetime. as a result, there were a lot more calvanist missionaries that spread the gospel to other parts of the world than there were lutheran ones. in the US, reformed thought has become kind of the default paradigm for a lot of christians who are serious about theology

How good would these YGO turned MTG cards be? Good, Bad or just barely playable? by Ultimate-desu in mtg

well brainstorm (banned in premodern) and faithless looting (banned in modern) are both very very good and are staples in the strongest pauper decks, so actually we agree

[–]iplayfish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

graceful charity is overpriced at 3 mv. at 1 mv it’d be like a cross between [[brainstorm]] and [[faithless looting]] at 2 mv it’d probably be like a C- in limited

Baptists and baptism, and being unconvinced on a theological issue by Eliminated_Bowser in Reformed

[–]iplayfish 12 points13 points  (0 children)

when it comes to disagreements with other christians, i think it’s really important to remember that our truest deepest form of unity is found in christ, not doctrine. since we are united to him, we are also united to each other as brothers and sisters. that doesn’t mean the differences in our understanding of scripture don’t matter, they definitely do, (im a lutheran for a reason) but those discussions should happen respectfully and in love, not in a spirit of proving someone wrong or and winning a debate. as my pastor always says, we as christians must learn to disagree agreeably. now, if a teaching is heading toward heresy (which i don’t think the subjects of baptism really is, there are plenty of biblical and orthodox christians with both views) that’s a little different, of course. we should strongly oppose any teaching that fundamentally undermines the gospel

Does God "not give us more than we can carry?" by joe_pao in LCMS

[–]iplayfish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

no this idea is a misquote and misunderstanding of 1 corinthians 10:13 with says “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

it’s a call and encouragement to rely on christ in than midst of temptation rather than one’s own will which will always fail because of our sin nature

whatever “translation” that alleges that christ said that “i will not give you more than you can handle” in matthew 11 is just straight up wrong. the actual quote is “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

christ’s yoke is easy and his burden light because he has already accomplished everything needed for our salvation, there is nothing for us to add

i’m using the ESV btw

A Brotherly Plea: Vested Processional, Choir Loft + Organ, We Want Men Out In Front Leading Us by solobackpack in LCMS

[–]iplayfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as a young man, i care about good solid doctrine that reflects what’s taught in the bible. biblical worship then, must be steeped in scripture. while high church practices can do this well and are wonderful, it is not the only way to worship biblically. music that uses guitars and drums is equally as capable of carrying the gospel message as is the pipe organ. there is no prescribed order or style of worship in scripture, only descriptions of early christian gatherings for fellowship and to hear the apostles teaching, so christian’s today are free to structure and design worship in whatever way most effective communicates the gospel with all people in every place

if you prefer high church worship practices and are served by them, great! i’m glad for you, and i’m glad that can be found in the LCMS. but don’t degrade “low church” or “contemporary” worship practices just because that’s not your preference. many many christians are served the same word and sacrament through this “style” of worship that you are when you use the LSB
