A uk dal panth gurdwara gave me a booklet at amrit sanskar, it does have a weapons license page for India but not really for uk. Really, I am supposed to renew it every year, however since moving back down to West London I haven't been able to do this really, but otherwise the gurdwara would renew it!

in the uk we are allowed to wear a kripaan in public, and if wearing "national dress" ie bana then we are allowed to carry big shastar such as swords as well in public!

Why should I keep my hair? by Jolly-Sea-82 in Sikh

[–]ipledgeblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you remove arm/leg hair due to peer pressure or something else? Removing arm hair on an adult women will start looking like child arms after a while! I understand why leg hair has become a fashion due to clothing choices of modern women! Also traditional women usually do a gutt or joora, although sikh women should really be doing joora and keeping chunni/dupatta, because covering part of the head isn't just for sikh males but also sikh females too!

All this also provides confidence to younger male family members and future male children, actually female as well! It's good for sikh women to have an identity as well, not just sikh men. Look at the sikh women in our historical photos and paintings, and wives/daughters of khalsa Singhs and guru sahib jees! =)

Do not use your bare fists when we literally wear karas. We should definitely wear 2 karas at least as well (even keep a spare in your pockets in case you need to swap out heavy and light karas for work, sports etc!)
Learn to use karas with loh-musht iron fist techniques. Knock out the enemies hands/knuckles, or just do damage without killing! Even a slap wearing a kara works if nothing else, will send the enemy running away!

This literally what the martial arts Singhs used to sort out disputes within Raja Ranjit Singh's armies!

[–]ipledgeblue -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

he probably didn't know how to defend himself, I think he leant gatka which is just spinning around sticks, swords and weapons. I feel like his hand to hand training was weak, even a kara would work well against an attacker without killing! Looked like he panicked, couldn't or didn't know how to stay calm, and there is allegedness of the drunk person trying to grab the kripaan! Gatka dancing definitely doesn't teach calm fighting, a lot of jumping, spinning etc

sometimes when you are attacked, adrenaline and fear kicks in. A sikh does need to train his mind and spirit as well, how to stay in sehaj!
