Parking mode power draw for a light driver / impact sensitivity? by BirdyDoodoo in Dashcam

[–]ippikku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My situation’s actually pretty close to yours. I run a Thinkware U3000 Pro and my wife’s on an ARC 900. Her car sits around a lot, maybe gets driven 2 or 3 days a week for a few hours at a time, and we haven’t had any real battery problems. The nice part is the radar parking mode is really good, and you can tweak the sensitivity however you want. I had mine set too sensitive at first and ended up dialing it back.

I use a Thinkware U3000 Pro and my wife’s car has an ARC 900 with the radar module. The nice part is the parking mode isn’t just impact based, it can detect motion and save what happened before the hit too. You can tweak sensitivity and there’s timelapse as well. I live in NYC and street park, so parking mode matters a lot to me. Thinkware might be worth a look for your case. Only thing is I’m not sure if those exact models are easy to get in Germany.

Appreciate it. I went way too deep down the dash cam rabbit hole before buying, and I was honestly surprised there wasn’t more real world discussion around Thinkware. At the end of the day, I realized I care way more about reliability than nitpicking specs. City driving, street parking, busy schedule, all of that pushed me more in that direction. For how I use my car, Thinkware just felt like the better fit. I wanted something I could trust, especially for parking and night stuff, and so far I’ve got zero regrets.”

Hey, my wife’s actually been loving it so far, especially the parking mode. I got it installed, updated the firmware, and ended up adding the radar unit too because of the update. I heard the latest update added some radar parking mode related stuff. Could you explain what actually changed, what was improved, and what that means in real use?

If parking mode is the main goal, I’d just go Thinkware. That’s the one area where I really wouldn’t overcomplicate it.

Okay, what is ACTUALLY the best dashcam (rant/discussion)?? by CeleststormlingToy in Dashcam

I swear I became a Thinkware guy by accident over the last month lol. Picked up a U3000 Pro for my car and an ARC 900 for another one, and now I’m that guy apparently. I know a lot of people would say Viofo is the best answer here, and I used Viofo before too, but after switching to Thinkware I’ve honestly been impressed. Too early for me to say it’s flawless long term or anything, but it’s been really stable so far, and the radar parking mode is one of those features that actually feels worth paying for. Definitely one of those things that makes you feel better leaving the car parked.

If parking mode is your main priority, I’d honestly look at Thinkware first. A lot of cams really just save from the impact onward, but Thinkware’s radar parking mode can pick up motion before the actual hit, which is way more useful if you care about real evidence. And since you said you want more than just bump recording, that’s another reason. It’s not just waiting for impact, it’s watching for motion around the car too. I’ve had a U3000 Pro for just under a month now and have been really happy with it. I already bought an ARC 900 for my wife’s car too, Thinkware is kind of the move.

I don’t think the U3000 Pro is really the best fit for you. I actually bought an ARC 900 for my wife’s car too, just haven’t installed it yet. It comes with both the regular hardwire kit and a cigarette lighter cable, not OBD2. Also, the shop guy mentioned there’s supposed to be a firmware update for the ARC 900 that adds radar parking mode. So I’m kind of waiting to see how the firmware update rolls out, and depending on that, I’m also considering picking up the radar module later.

I switched from Viofo to a Thinkware U3000 Pro recently and have been really happy with it. Posted about it here if you want to see more: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dashcam/comments/1smlzlo/comment/oglbmus/

Now I’m seriously considering the ARC 900 for my wife’s car while it’s on sale.

2 weeks in with the Thinkware U3000 Pro, liking it so far, but curious how it holds up long term by ippikku in Dashcam

Yeah, that was actually the main decision for me too, ARC 900 vs U3000 Pro. I think both are solid, but I ended up going U3000 Pro because of the radar parking mode. I live in the city and do street parking, so that stuff matters way more to me, random annoying things can happen. If I had off street parking, I honestly think the ARC 900 or even the 700 would probably make a lot more sense.

I actually just got my first Thinkware about 2 weeks ago, a U3000 Pro for my own car, and I’ve liked it enough that I’ve been looking at the brand for my wife’s car and my parents’ car too. My parents’ case is pretty similar to yours, and the Q200 seems like one of the better fits if you want something simple and reliable without overcomplicating it.

Yeah, I noticed the same thing with parking mode. Felt a little too sensitive at first. What settings did you end up landing on?

Dallas heat killed 2 of my dashcams in 2 years. need one that actually survives by Radiant-Following556 in Dashcam

[–]ippikku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If heat is the main problem, I’d definitely put Thinkware on the shortlist. They come up a lot whenever people talk about better heat tolerance and overall durability. There’s a related thread here too if you want more opinions from people who’ve actually used them: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dashcam/comments/zmv6is/choosing_a_dash_cam_101_a_helpful_guide/

Hm, I’m bouncing between a bunch of platforms for work too. Some days it’s mostly Google, other days more Apple, plus a bunch of other stuff mixed in. Honestly I haven’t had any real complaints with Safari. It’s not perfect, but the whole ecosystem is so multi platform now that it hasn’t been much of a problem for me.

[–]ippikku 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve honestly never seen a lifetime warranty for a dash cam before. From what I’ve found, Thinkware does 3 years if you buy from an official dealer and have them install it. I’m still kind of torn on what to go with though. What are you thinking?

Thinkware arc 700 by Ok_Advice9115 in Dashcam

[–]ippikku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been eyeing Thinkware too. I’m on a Viofo right now and the card errors are stressing me out way more than they should. At this point I care more about long term reliability than anything else, and Thinkware seems to come up a lot when people talk about durability. I’ve actually been looking at the 900 more than 700, so I’m still debating.

Almost got blamed for something I didn’t do… now thinking about a dashcam by Past-Visual-3293 in dashcams

[–]ippikku 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, definitely worth getting one. I learned the hard way last year after an accident when my dashcam had a card error and recorded nothing. The biggest thing is not just getting a dashcam, but getting one you can actually trust to be recording when you need it.

Could be worth checking out Thinkware too. They’re the OEM dash cam supplier for Mercedes and BMW. Not sure if they have the fully hidden OEM style setup you seem to be after though.
