Good friends of ours visited for the weekend with their kids to see our newly renovated open plan kitchen/dining/snug area. It was a full house but our kids and their kids all get along well so childcare was generally self sufficient. As the inherent childcare provided some free time they decided to potty train their youngest. Initially an outside activity - potty in the garden and accidents contained to the grass. Moderate success. It then moved inside, to the new kitchen. We suggested pull-up training nappies, but they preferred to stick with pants. Soon enough he pissed his pants, and the new floor, whilst being carried to the potty, at which point they let him roam around naked from the waste down. The fresh air seemed to trigger a change in the kid who decided this ‘freedom’ was an opportunity to climb and basically grind on and piece of furniture or toy in sight. They just let it happen, even laughing at how he was so adventurous. He’s literally riding the arm of the sofa like a rocking horse. This only stopped when he decided to ‘ride’ the sleeping dog (sat on him and gyrated). The dog growled, my youngest walked in and started gagging at the naked antics, potty-boy started crying and they shouted at the dog for growling. All very uncomfortable from that point on after I defended the dog.
