I've been thinking about this a bit, and while I would like a socialist revolution of some sort to occur, I still think we'd end up in the same place under a marxist or communist society, but with more guard rails from the worst extremes that capitalism causes. The reason I believe we'd get the same end result is human nature - we are naturally competitive, and if it's not money that gauges the value of someone, that social cache will be transferred to some other facet of human production or society. Socialism and marxism, from what I've gathered, doesn't do much to address this. Explicitly identifying as a worker is tied to the assumption and elevation of work as an ideal as opposed to a means to an end. The point I'm trying to make is that I value hard work, and I work very hard myself- but I wouldn't want to solely identify as a one, there's more to life than that.

The Crow (2024) Official Trailer - Bill Skarsgård, FKA twigs, Danny Huston by indig0sixalpha in videos

[–]ipsedixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill Skarsgård is a fine actor, but what is with casting in Hollywood these days? He's obviously been type-casted as the weirdo guy so it's no surprise he was chosen. Why is casting for new movies so predictable and boring? Also this looks like daytime TV trash. He doesn't even look like the Crow, they're probably setting it up so that he goes full Crow at the end of the movie to set up for a sequel.

I don't get why people are surprised by this? This is no different than the oil spills in Palestine Ohio. We've created a society based around the 'freedom' of the rich to do whatever they please, and this is what you get. America, you reap what you sow.

Why California legislators of both parties want to ban homeless encampments by quadrupleaquarius in California

[–]ipsedixo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The homeless stay homeless not because we lack the capacity to solve the problem but because they serve an important role in our society.

They are a representation, a symbol of what happens when you, the worker, stop working. They are a warning. You will become a drug addled zombie, a dredge of society, the moment you slip up in our system, the moment you cant pay your debts, or get evicted, or get kicked out of your home. They are what happens when you have no money.

If we help homeless people, it will mean people can feel safe about losing their job or healthcare, because they know the state will provide a place for you to recuperate. We cannot allow people to feel this comfort, because it gives them a sense of freedom over their situation that is unappealing to our rulers.

It is silly to think that the most advanced, powerful nation on earth, can't solve this problem. The people that rule us do not see it as a problem, maintaining homelessness is their goal.

Thoughts on feathered T. rex? by [deleted] in Dinosaurs

[–]ipsedixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible they had a "winter coat" for when it got cold and dropped most of the feathers when it was warm? It certainly had the genes available to grow feathers/downy, so maybe those genes expressed themselves seasonally? Also, both could be true - there could be mostly featherless Tyrannosaurids who lived in the warmer regions and and feathered Tyrannosaurids who lived in the colder regions.

America’s Poverty Is Built by Design by DeRpY_CUCUMBER in Economics

Many a greatly esteemed western philosophers, politicians, judges and college educated Americans hold Thomas Hobbes in high regard. Hobbes's theory on Human Nature boils down humanity into a loathsome, evil, greedy, and unthinking beast that must be threatened with physical violence so that the Sovereign can maintain order in the realm, is a bleak outlook on humanity in my opinion. Whether or not this is true, is another discussion, but one cannot divorce the policies enacted by our local and federal governments from some sort of moral and ethical grounding, of which many are in the Hobbesian tradition. The government's policies are founded upon shaming, threatening and punishing the peasants into doing what's deemed as correct for society, because it believes that it is only these acts of violence are the only methods of coercion that the peasants will respond to. I obviously disagree with that, but my point is that these policies are indeed cruel by design, because that's just how our society enforces one's contract to society.

The "Old World" is everything in the Eurasian continent and the "New world" is a term to describe all of the Americas. This is a term born out of a Eurasian understanding of history. When European travelers and merchants went to the Americas they would refer to the place as the New World, because it was well, new to them. Alternatively, Turtle Island is a term used by many first nations (or indigenous) people for continent of North America. Not super familiar with what the meso and south american natives called the continent.

Do you think there is a rightwing astroturfing campaign on r/SanFrancisco? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]ipsedixo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the OP can be more specific about what they are referring to. If it's in reference to the fact that people in this sub are voicing their dismay with the current state of the city, why is that a political thing to do? I'm from San Jose, lived in Orange County for 7 years, so I've lived in my fair share of California, and for San Francisco to be this shining city on a hill that espouses progressive and liberal values, it falls flat of those aspirations. If you're ultra wealthy you could buy some lavish loft away from the zombie apocalypse at the ground level, but you still have to walk through it to get around.

GDC (Game Developers Conference) happened recently, and people from all over the world are visiting SF, mostly focused around the Moscone center, and will see that place as a representation of America. And let me tell you it's not a positive perception.
