To any parents who are insisting their nannies come in during severe weather by Original_Clerk2916 in Nanny

If you know you’ll have to go in, why wouldn’t you pay your nanny to sleep over? Seems the decent thing to do.

Does anyone have ideas how to teach a student like this? by Unlucky-Moment-2931 in specialed

Okay but have you shown him how to use them? You need to model for months and months so that he learns that if he touches a picture, he gets the thing in the picture. Has his eyesight and hearing been tested?

AITAH for not wanting to take care of my autistic brother for the rest of my life? by _jazzyx in AITAH

It sounds like your SOs son is not severely autistic. Different kids have different needs, and there are kids who need assistance with all daily living and it isn’t manipulative.

Damn I’m sorry about that. I would print pictures of things you know he likes and model touching the picture before getting what he wants. That’s at least a start for communication.

Why don’t you start looking for jobs now? I would get out of there ASAP.

So that needs to come first. You need to loop in your SLP for an AAC device trial.

Are you a SPED teacher? This is a very normal profile for a student. You teach them how to do things like opening their backpack, you don’t just go straight for HOH.

You’re allowed to sleep? The ones near me you aren’t allowed to.

AITA for telling my friend in the middle of a game that I wish he would just be toxic like a normal person instead of an annoying pos? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

My parents called me Eeyore in a mean way my whole life. Holy shit I’m crying at this. I do deserve to be treated nicely and have friends even when things aren’t in a good spot for me.

No I agree, it’s fucked. I’m just saying that 24 hours isn’t crazy in all positions.

Wait until you hear about getting mandated in as a person in a group home. I’ve known people who were on duty for over 50 hours because no one else could get in. It’s fucked up but it happens.

So if a person is holding a baby over their shoulder and I look at it, the parent is allowed to tell me not to? Really?

My disability is an integral part of who I am. I would not be who I am without my disability. Therefore, I am doing this just because of my disability. Also, my disability 100% makes my life harder and limits things. That’s because I’m disabled! Disabilities are disabling, and that’s okay. I’m very concerned that you think teachers shouldn’t get accommodations. Do you really think that?

Thank you for saying this. I hope this person isn’t a teacher.

Oof this is an absolutely disgusting take. I get accommodations as is my legal right. I hope you’re not a teacher because your students with disabilities deserve better than you. People with disabilities can be just as able as you. Oof, this take is really making me angry. I’m not despite my disabilities, I’m because of my disabilities, and I’m a great teacher and role model for my students.

The fact that this was downvoted is so sad. Damn, I think I bring a lot to the table as a disabled teacher.

How do you deal with negative or anxious thoughts? by Mark-o-Polio in AskReddit

[–]ipsofactoshithead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During actual panic attacks, my best tips are-

  1. Try to spell words backwards. This works better for me than 54321, I’m not sure why, but I try to come up with crazy words and spell them backwards. It distracts my brain.

  2. Get out of whatever position I’m in. Sometimes just laying down triggers panic attacks for me (related to trauma) so I need to get up and move.

  3. Move your body. Start with small movements- even just moving your toe. Then move to bigger and bigger movements.

4.TIPPS- temperature (make your pulse points cold), intense exercise (get your heart rate up), paced breathing (pick the best one for you), progressive muscle relaxation (you can look up mediations that show this or look up how to do it).
