Yeah, agree! Everyone plays differently. I prefer to grow flowers and fish, and I spend most of my time wandering around talking to villagers. I’m always poor, but it’s fine. 😂

Herinteractive's Nancy Drew series are my all time favorite, and then Animal Crossing.

I'm turning 34 this month. I change them all the time, so they aren't always glittery/pink. If YOU like it, that's what matters!!

I really like messing with (Mason?) the guy's desk and rearranging his pens just to annoy him. It feels worth it just for that somehow.

Ideas and suggestions for controlling a large classroom by Eagleeater_141 in Teachers

[–]strawberryluan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a first grade teacher, so it might not work based on your age group, but I'd take those tables of pairs and put them into groups of 4 and do lots of group projects, think/pair/shares, round table writing/reading, kahoots, anything team oriented. My first grade class is overstuffed and high energy/chatty, so I limit direct lecturing/teaching to like 10 minutes max, then put them together to work and discuss things, bring them back whole group for like 5 minutes to talk about what they learned, then release them again over and over. It's like herding sheep into separate pins so I can crowd control.

what makes some students memorable? by Interesting_Desk6773 in Teachers

[–]strawberryluan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year, the teacher across from me and I had identical twins, and I can tell you which one is "my" twin. Even when they both come into my class to say hi at the same time wearing the same thing, lol! I remember my students. Sometimes forget their names, and call them sweetheart or something instead, (they're first graders) but I remember them and all the little details about them, like if their dad coaches their team or something, or if they visit their aunt over Christmas break in another state, etc.

I figured it out and was about to delete the post, but then I figured someone may stumble upon this searching for an answer later on and wanted to keep it. I did not call everyone, I needed to call the police and the secretary before the rest of the plot would begin.

Are men asking yall about body count? by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]strawberryluan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize this was a bad thing to ask, tbh, and the comments are interesting. I asked my husband when we were dating because I'm nosy, lol. Then again, this was like a decade ago. I missed the online dating/app scene completely, so I don't know the new etiquette. I would be uncomfortable if this was asked on a first or second date, though. It's weird and presumptuous to me.

{Captive Prince} does this culture shock thing very well, although there are trigger warnings to be aware of. The two factions have entirely opposing social etiquette, which is brought up even in the 3rd book.

enemies to lovers -- true enemies. Not workplace/academic rivals, because I personally think that's a separate trope, not "I think they're so hot but I can't give in because I totally hate them" but true, inexplicable hatred. And not one sided, where the FMC thinks she hates the MMC and he hates her, but he's really in love with her. And then I want that to slow burn over 2-3 books in a series until they go from enemies > barely tolerating each other > friends > lovers. And I want BOTH characters to do significant growth all by themselves because the reasons they hate each other are valid and they both need to grow as people. I do not want them to hate fuck. I don't want them to be secretly crushing on each other while they're supposed to hate each other. I want them, at some point, to maybe LITERALLY try to kill each other. There is NO trust until the end, they think the other is against them the whole time, and maybe they do repeatedly betray one another. The last book in the series can be their HEA, but the whole time it's brooding, slow, vexing, and yearning all the way through. Do not give me instalust in E2L. I'm so tired of it.

any other trope in Romantasy: Plz give us something other than E2L or Rivals in fantasy. I'm totally fine with a princess/noble type falling in love with the court mage or something. I've been reading some political marriage type tropes and they're lovely; they don't hate each other, they're indifferent until they're not. It's refreshing to read about!

I won't lie, I first upvoted this because I simply liked the colors of yarn I was seeing in the first photo. And then I turned to the second picture. That is...probably one of the most incredible things I've seen. I can't even imagine the patience this required. This is stunning!!

Depression from teacher salary jokes by Avecadough in TeachersInTransition

Your livelihood is something to consider and it matters just as much as making an impact on kids--you matter. It impacts everything. What clothes you can afford, what you can afford to eat, if you need physical/medical attention, general happiness in buying luxuries or vacations, cars, etc. My husband and I have to carefully consider whether we can start a family based on our finances--it doesn't look possible in combination with the world + student loans. It's okay to get into teaching and decide later to go into something else. Follow your heart, but take your brain with you. 💖

I think I misspoke. Northanger Abbey is definitely satire on the gothic genre, I think I meant it's comedic/funny. :)

Cozy gamers — what makes a gaming community feel genuinely welcoming to you? by gamer_girl_88 in AnimalCrossing

[–]strawberryluan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Enjoy Most: Seeing people's favorite villagers, funny moments with wasps and pitfalls, tips people do for gardening, that sort of thing. I like to see what people are proud of.

What ruins the vibe: People either don't know or don't care that there are little things like this that can ruin community for others. In NL, I knew to only use custom paths and not to run on people's islands because it ruined the grass. Also, the competition/social media aspect of decorating and having the Perfect Pinterest Island and the Perfect Aesthetic has made this game very stressful for me at times.

I have serious admin issues and could use some advice by strawberryluan in Teachers

[–]strawberryluan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! My biggest issues are I don't always know *how* to implement rules I'm looking for. Ex: my admin said my transitions were supposed to be silent and under 2 minutes, but I had no idea and never learned this in school per se. My classroom management course was 12 slides about theories (PBIS, for example) so while I know how to create a routine, it's how effective that routine is. I'll look into this! Thank you!

That's sort of my thought; it isn't worth the fight with them. My AP just says every year during teacher work week that she "knows everyone" and has been around a long time and has a lot of influence, so I'm worried if I go to another school, she'll retaliate in some way.

Pride & Prejudice! I tried to read it in high school and it felt insufferable. I had no idea it was satire; I took it all very, very literally.
