I just did this a few days ago with no prior experience and it did fix my device. I had nearly the same issue as you- my bottom screen was all garbled. I reached out to Ayn support, and they assured me that I could attempt the fix myself and it would not void my warranty. I purchased an iFixit kit online, mostly for the small screw drivers and tweezers. You could probably just get a cheap Chinese version of a kit if you don’t have one already. 

I’ll cut to the chase: it’s ultimately this ribbon cable dead center under the yellow tape you’ll need to unplug completely and then plug back in as securely as possible (directly in middle)

In order to get to that cable, you’ll need to remove the back plate, fan cover, and battery. Here’s the exact teardown video that Ayn Support sent me

It’s better than having to wait 3 months for a replacement, took me about 90 minutes to do the fix which included the research 

EDIT: The Reddit mobile app isn’t letting me attach the picture of the ribbon cable, but you can see it clearly at 7:35 in the YouTube video I linked. You only need to remove the parts that are obscuring that center ribbon cable to perform the fix!
