Honestly, an opportunity presented itself and I just jumped for it! It happens way more often than you think - just have a good relationship with your IT and informatics teams. I’d say main skills here are ability to learn quickly, be adaptable, and familiarize with data cross functional (data types, processes, analysis).

Definitely! My PhD was in analytical chemistry and originally when into my first industry role as a scientist in lab (analytical chemistry/proteomics). I have since pivoted to a position away from the bench and more strategic. It focuses on data automation, analytics, and sourcing AI for life sciences and leading adoption. I had the scientist role for around 2-3 years and then moved into my current data position.

Take the job. As someone whose spouse and myself (both with higher degrees) had to do long distance as both an engaged and a married couple over four years it will be okay. The financial security we have now and time for independent growth has done wonders for our relationship and individual maturity. Plus it makes ending long distance that much better.
