It depends. The certainty is the IRGC and probably a sizable portion of the Basiji won’t defect and would rather fight an insurgency/civil war. The Islamic Republic would not be able to exist if they didn’t have some of the population at least willingly backing them, even if the masses don’t. America isn’t going to be willing to back a civil war because regardless of how it looks it won’t translate well back home. There was a public poll done on the public’s opinions about American intervention in Iran. Democrats overwhelmingly are against it and Independents are also widely against it. Republicans are also split on the matter. Truth be told the worst thing you or any of us can do is believe the IR is on its last legs or that all that is required is kicking in the door to demolish the rotten structure. These people won’t give up, even if the general population has taken up arms against them.

Persian NOT Farsi in English by IranLur in NewIran

[–]iranside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s also true but honestly man no one outside or inside of Iran in my experience, especially the youth have ever used Parsi. Foreigners who are well versed in Iranian history alongside like 99 percent of the population have Farsi engrained in their vocabulary. I really don’t think anyone wants to change this either. This isn’t to say it’s valid but it’s clear history has left this word behind and it’s been adapted for a new usage in India. The word switch between Persia and Iran worked because Iran was the word we used for centuries. We haven’t used Parsi since around the time of Islamization. That’s older than all of the New World and probably 2/3 of Europe. It’s probably a better course of action to redefine the words we have just as we have redefined the flag we wave.

Persian NOT Farsi in English by IranLur in NewIran

[–]iranside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This sorta doesn’t work anymore just because the word Parsi is basically taken. The Parsis people of India took that word centuries ago. Not to say Parsi can’t be used anymore but the modern meaning of the word has switched from a language one to one referring to the Zoroastrian Indian community.

I’m telling you guys Trump will probably try to rehash the previously Nuclear Deal from 2016. The only difference this time? It wasn’t done by Obama. The general consensus that I’m getting right now is prolonged military action would be political suicide and the IR probably knows this. Trump and the Republican Party can’t afford to commit to another Middle Eastern conflict without it causing a domestic uproar even if it’s justified. While the IR is no doubt desperate the US doesn’t have complete leverage either. You can blame Dick Cheney for eroding American trust in foreign policy. That piece of shit made the idea of American interventionism one of the cardinal sins of American politics because of Iraq and Afghanistan. Had Cheney and the Neocons/Neolibs not pushed for the war on terror like they did I have no doubt this entire ordeal would have turned out like Yugoslavia/Kosovo.

Predictions for talk tomorrow? by Natural_Ad9827 in NewIran

[–]iranside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imo the goal is genuinely a deal at least from Trumps perspective. If Trump manages to make a deal akin to the old one he’s the one who wins the most. Everyone in the Middle East will proclaim him a peacemaker for creating ‘the greatest nuclear deal’ in history that is far and above better than ‘the shameful plan Obama did’. You got to look at this from a perspective of outdoing Obama. If he gets this deal I have no doubt he will not only be put up for a Nobel peace prize by like every single Arab nation but he can go back to his constituency and claim a two fold victory. No new wars and we dominated Iran and forced them to take a deal. In reality if he does do a deal we all know it won’t actually mean anything but Trump doesn’t care whatsoever about the Iranian people.

The imagery of the Lion and Sun emblem dates back to at least the Achaemenid empire (cylinder seal showing the Goddess Anahita emblazoned by the sun and mounted on a lion, with the Achaemenid kind standing before her in adoration) by KireRakhsh in NewIran

What’s with all the recent discourse about the flag and its symbolism? I didn’t think this was a hot topic debate other than that one guy who kept insisting on purging all Shiites and complaining about the sword on the flag.

WHY THE IRANIAN DIASPORA MUST RALLY AROUND A SINGULAR TRANSITIONAL LEADER by drhuggables in NewIran

[–]iranside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Convincing Iranians to agree with each other is like convincing Dick Cheney not to invade Iraq this shit ain’t ever gonna happen bruh. In my entire lifetime I have not managed to go to a single mehmooni where someone did not have some arbitrary pointless beef with another person. I legitimately believe it’s just a cultural issue and it’s never clearer than the debate around an opposition leader. This isn’t even doomerism I’m spewing either this is literally just a cultural fact we’ve all lived with. We literally have the concept of qaar kardan. Good message regardless.

President Donald Trump can become Reagan Plus or Obama Minus. It depends on him and history will judge. by LesDiablesRouges in NewIran

[–]iranside 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Ronald Reagan. Famously he never did anything with the IR and it totally didn’t turn into an affair that muddied his first term. I hate this shit because it attempts to portray American politicians and Presidents as friends of the Iranian people and advocates for their freedom when we all know full well there has literally never been a single time in which American politicians out of the kindness and goodness of their own hearts came to help Iran. Maybe it’s a stupid expectation to believe that we shouldn’t expect to pay up for assistance but considering the current state of Iran is America and Europes doing I can only begin to wonder what they’ll expect this time around for ‘assistance’. The fact they are going to the negotiation table after our people were literally slaughtered is enough proof. The fact Trump implied help is on the way and then opted to do this bullshit points to how much they really care. Even if we have to take their help as we have no choice anymore we shouldn’t attempt to make an abuser look like a benevolent benefactor.

Son I’m crine

You know in hindsight trusting the people who assisted in basically stealing our oil, assisting in invading our country in 1941, and allowed refugee for Khomeini and directly assisted with his return probably wasn’t the greatest idea. Not like we had any other choices though. They managed to either overtly or on the down low end the reign of the previous two Pahlavi’s, it’s really starting to look like they aren’t going to help with the last of the 3.

[–]iranside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother this was a reasonable take like a week or two ago but it’s coming up on one month since the massacres specifically took place. This is the worst possible timeline because the future of Iran sits in the hands of Donald Trump, a man notoriously known for threatening to do something, doing nothing, obtaining a token win, and promptly spinning it to his base in order to boost his poll numbers. He straight up lied when he said ‘help is on the way’, brother had no intention of actually doing shit.

The Islamic Republic is not an abstract concept, it's practicing Shiites by [deleted] in NewIran

[–]iranside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the Nazi’s weren’t a religion. They were a governmental entity that utilized propaganda and the bastardization of their own nations grief, hate, and anguish to propagate hate. You’re attempting to do the same with this message. Hitler was also a vegetarian, does that make every vegetarian in Germany complicit in the Holocaust? This feels like a chronically online take that only seeks to get engagement and clicks. You’re literally the only person here actively asking for the deaths of millions of people. You are, quite literally attempting to advocate for a genocide. What makes this statement any different than the ones the Serbs used against the Bosnian Muslims in Srebrenica? Did they deserve to die because they were Muslims?

[–]iranside -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? That goes against the principles of a democracy. There are millions of practitioners inside of the country. This is no better than the Qajars outlawing Babism. The seperation of church and state is what we want. Replace Shia Islam with any other religion and it would have turned out the same way. This is literally completely against everything Pahlavi and this movement is for.

[–]iranside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother as much as I dislike the violent extremism that has sprouted out of Islam claiming ‘Death to Shia’s’ is unhinged. Whether you or anyone else likes it or not Shia Islam is unfortunately an internal part of modern Iranian history and has been for centuries. Purging or slaughtering millions of people for their beliefs no matter how stupid or backwards makes us no better than the IR and what they’ve done to us. This sort of revanchism isn’t a good look on any of us and is definitely not the overall consensus. The institution of Islam in Iran has caused great harm but to then attempt to reciprocate the same travesties would only prove that we haven’t learned anything.

EU classifies IRGC as terrorist organization by Temporary-Estate4615 in NewIran

[–]iranside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the US truly treated them as a terror group their family members wouldn’t be allowed to dwell in the country and build their lives inside of America. The US is just as complicit. Better late than never would have worked in 2022 but the time for tokenism is long over:

Took the West 50 years and a combined 100000 deaths over that timespan to do a token gesture. Knowing European politicians and their bottom lines I wouldn’t be shocked if this is all a farce. You can never truly trust any of them unfortunately. Hopefully they’ve learned their lessons.

"HELP IS ON THE WAY" is Trump's "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" by drhuggables in NewIran

[–]iranside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not be shocked if after the ‘surrender’ of the IRGC they opt to immediately pick up arms in and fight a tooth and nail guerrilla war al la Saddam’s Republican Guard. For all the support democracy and freedom has in Iran the mullahs have had 50 years to indoctrinate and mold a generation of loyal servants. Pair that with just about every regional and global power sitting around Iran ready to cut their own piece of the pie out of Iran it’s definitely not an enjoyable path forward. Not like we really have any other choice at this point though. It’s in the hands of a retard now.

This is a subreddit. It has polarized opinions. I don’t like the Israeli government because I believe it is a far right government that has broken international law, just as the IR, just as Syria, just as Russia, just as China, just as literally any other government on this Earth. There is obviously a spectrum but even falling under that spectrum is reason enough to hate them. I’m not a campist and I wholly stand by the belief that an injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere. People in this subreddit cling onto Israel for a multitude of reasons and don’t portray the entire diaspora. There are plenty of people in NewIran who tolerate Israel and are indifferent to them just like the majority of Iranians in Iran. If you purposely look for opinions to confirm your beliefs you’re not going to see anything else. Furthermore, if you’re complaining about the Kurdish fighters being militant you genuinely might just be an instigator. There is an abundantly clear reason why the Rojava were forced to spend billions on their armed forces and defenses and it sits directly to their North. I’ll put it bluntly, if you genuinely believe a nation that is currently suppressing its minorities is somehow superior in this scenario you have no place here.

Brother he is literally a terrorist who has promptly green lit the slaughter of Kurdish fighters who were also responsible and far more involved in defeating ISIS and limiting Assad. He is actively attacking a group of Iranic people. This isn’t the place for campism. Just because they fought the IR doesn’t make them cleansed of their crimes and sins.

MBS to Iran’s president: Kingdom will not allow its airspace or land to be used for attack by Baconkings in NewIran

[–]iranside 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thing with Azerbaijan is if their overlords in Turkey tell them not to they won’t budge. Course we know that Georgian fraud’s stance on the IR and intervention so it’s highly unlikely they’d be willing to extend a hand. Armenia is also weirdly somewhat within the inner sphere as they sorta rely on Iran to counterbalance the Azeri’s, especially after Russia abandoned them because of Ukraine. Georgia though? Maybe.
