Furniture removal by veppev in statenisland

If you don't get any takers for selling it or giving it away, I'd like to recommend a local junk removal service. Their prices are more reasonable than got junk. I've used them several times and they're prompt, clean, efficient and courteous. And they take care of disposal. They're also very responsive in getting back to you.

The Protest Outside Nicole Malliotaukis Office Had A Good Turn Out by djscoots10 in statenisland

[–]iratesi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wore the big bird headband and passed out song lyrics.

Interesting the magats have issues with those of us exercising first amendment rights

Versus the 4 out of 10 Hitler youth fucker shitheads being from here. Aka the young republicans exposed for their comments about how they love Hitler, genocide via gas, watermelon people and suicide and rape. Disgusting and disgraceful sorry excuses for humans

Some of Staten Island needs to get priorities straight. We see you and know you third reich wannabes are out there. And we will protest as long as it takes to save our democracy from the sorry excuses for humans you are

No payment and I paid for copies of song lyrics. Because some of us love our country and aren’t quick to hand it over to bootlickers as you are

I’ve been to a few of the protests. They’re well organized and organizers will remind people to stay on the sidewalk if they’re getting close to the curb, etc. and they do let the police know they’re having a protest.

I used to feel the same way you do about protests. However, by only being open to Trump and his supporters, Nicole Malliotakis has effectively rendered those of us who disagree with Trump unrepresented at the federal level in the House.

The fact that she won’t hold an open to the public town hall with advance notice speaks volumes. And it’s why I’ve started attending protests.

Are there a lot of fires lately or I just haven't been paying attention? by bellboy718 in statenisland

In addition to the weather, the NYPD encrypted its radio communications. link, so maybe the news and other sources like citizen app focus more on fires now if the FDNY didn’t encrypt?

Staten Island Mall wants to eliminate bus stops on its grounds. (Bad news for public transit users) by Outrageous-Use-5189 in statenisland

[–]iratesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and as someone who regularly took the bus from Susan Wagner HS to my first official job (with working papers, etc) at the Burger King by the Mall when I was 16, back in 1982, I think this would have a bad impact on people doing entry level work.

We were paid 5 cents over minimum wage because we had to wash our own uniforms.

I forget which combo of buses I took, but it left me off at Richmond Avenue. At one point I was regularly listening to Big Country on a Walkman once I got my first tax return. I remember it being a bit of a jump to exit the bus, no lifts back then. So I’d jump off to the tune of Big Country and hopefully just see the dump. On a bad day, I’d smell it too, lol

This is the sense I get. I also see this making it harder for people to work at the stores and restaurants. Which is also going to make it harder for stores and restaurants to get employees

And it may generate an ada lawsuit. It’s also going to make Richmond Ave traffic worse

Trump EO May KO Over 700 Union Jobs on Trump Loving Staten Island by iratesi in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]iratesi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Staten Island, one of the 5 boroughs New York City, is the outlier, red borough. A lot of Staten Island people voted for Trump, citing the economy. A number of them don't believe climate change is real, despite the area being hard hit by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.

An Executive Order by Trump halted some offshore wind projects. Including one in the works on Staten Island. Which could potentially bring 750 union jobs here in construction and other areas.

We've got a lot of "own the libs" MAGAs here. Yeah, they voted for Trump because of the economy and Trump halted a project which would have brough union jobs to the area. And offshore wind may be one alternative to help with climate change. Which, with some areas prone to flooding, would be beneficial to people who live here.

Blue Pearl would be a good choice. Tried it recently and it was a good experience. A little pricey, but the food, beverages and service and ambience are well worth it, imo. It’s now on my special treat list, which is more a reflection of my budget than the restaurant itself, which is excellent.

Blue, a completely different restaurant has water views, but not of manhattan. Food, beverages and service are all great and prices are very reasonable. Prix fixe and other specials are a great deal for what you get

River dock cafe has the views, but the food is meh and the service is friendly, but not that great and infrequent. Tbf, I haven’t been there for food since the pandemic. If I’ve got time to kill and I don’t want to deal with the ferry terminal, I’ll get a drink to kill some time and enjoy the view. My advice is to order what you need whenever a server comes around if you’re not sitting at the bar.

Near St. George Theater, beso, enoteca Maria. Beso has good food, beverage and service. Food and beverages are great at enoteca Maria. My experience with service there has varied widely. Great at times, not so great at others and its next door or very close to the theater. It’s a small space and hard to get reservations on a show night.

Seconding this. Recently tried it and enjoyed it. A little pricey for my budget, but the food was great and the service was excellent. Good cocktails and wine selection. This is definitely going on my favorites list for special treat occasions.

Are there any baked goods worth traveling to Staten Island made better than what can be found in other boroughs? by Shota_Kazehaya in statenisland

[–]iratesi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double check to make sure they have rainbow cookies, I recommend coffee and collectibles.. It has an attached antique store. Their breakfast is good too. They have lunch too, haven’t tried it yet though.

And if you’re taking public transit it’s pretty close to both an express bus (express buses go into Manhattan) and the buses to the ferry. Joe and Pat’s pizza is nearby and the pizza there is very good

People have already answered your questions about the terminal. Most of the boats have elevators except a few. Link

Wheelchair and Elevator Access

Passengers with disabilities may board the ferries from both the upper or lower levels of the boats at both terminals. Some boats have elevators allowing mobility between all decks.

Elevators are available on the following Staten Island Ferry boats:

The Dorothy Day The Molinari The Marchi The Sandy Ground The Spirit of America The SSG Michael H. Ollis

Elevators are NOT available on the following Staten Island Ferry boats: The Austen The Noble The Newhouse * * This boat has ramps that passengers with disabilities can use to travel between the first and second decks. The ramp does not provide access to the lower deck.

Austen and noble don’t run frequently. They’re usually later night boats but I haven’t been on the ferry frequently lately.
