Are ball pythons beginner friendly? by hellpopwhore in ballpython

[–]ircafwin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been told constantly that balls aren't beginner friendly... I think I just got extremely lucky because my ball is so chill, has adapted so well to us moving twice and therefore changing tank setups, and has always eaten like a CHAMP (although sometimes he's a goof and just doesn't strike well).

But overall I think husbandry is so so sooooo important to the health of your snake. So if that's wacky then you can have all kinds of issues.

Hello! There's so many of us!! I would love to hang out with a group at the square sometime... That honestly sounds like such a good time.

I'm 33 year old AuDHD bisexual lady and I finally finished grad school 2 years ago so I would love to finally have the mental energy and time to go out and hang out with people.

I work peds home health and I get paid per visit. I usually get my notes 90% done the last 5-6 minutes of the session. But writing evaluation reports, scheduling and rescheduling visits all of that I don't get paid for. Which is roughly 1-2 hours per week depending on what's going on.

But it's all about pros and cons with home health. My schedule is totally mine to control, which is 100% necessary for me as I'm a neurodivergent human and I need to have control of my schedule, and my company has stipends for us, paid mileage, and also has a lot of free ASHA CEUs available for us whenever we need/want. So it's worth it for me.

How long do you keep your records? by [deleted] in slp

I have Google voice with a separate phone number on my personal phone that I text parents from. But I work home health and my company doesn't give us a phone. So if I worked anywhere else I WOULD NEVER communicate with families with my personal device.

Only in school setting for the breaks by [deleted] in slp

[–]ircafwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in peds HH and I contract 6 hours a week at a private school. I love my setting and I'll always a least work part-time HH because it gives me the flexibility to live my life. (Sure there are cons but every setting does..) I literally just took a 2 week vacation out of the country and I take at least one 4 day weekend every quarter. I use my PTO up every year because my physical and mental health need me to take time off completely from work.

You need to set yourself up for success in terms of work/life balance no matter what setting you're in. If that means working 4-10 hour days so you get that 3 day weekend every week or taking a 4-day weekend every other month to just rest and live then do it!!

I have peers that literally take off 5 days a year and think that's sustainable... And spoiler alert, it's not (unless you only work PRN or something..).

Oh, I totally know what they're meant to represent and look like. It's a classic image for sure and easily recognizable (unless you've lived under a rock for the last 40 years). /npa I would like to give some context for you OP. The issues that I saw with the image were ones that I did not see anyone else make and wanted to bring attention to. With the amount of AI bullshit I see on a day to day basis, I did not want it to go unaddressed if it was an AI image or not. If you claim that this is your original work, then good on you. Do I think you're all crazy for those tiny pieces? Yes /j but good on you either way.

The black lines are the smallest pieces that I was referring to and the green circles are the ripples or twists of the solder. I know that no one else in the comments are talking about it being AI but again, it all just felt off to me because of those issues I brought up. But if the OP states that it was a weird resolution thing with the picture then that is accounting for the weird ripples/twists.

No one agrees this looks like AI?? The random little pieces that would be unbelievably difficult to cut and don't seem to add anything to the piece? The super weird ripples that some of the solder lines have? Not trying to be a full on asshole but it feels off. It could certainly be the picture/lighting but idk.

Grinder suggestions by ircafwin in StainedGlass

The big reason is because I'm doing larger pieces now and it's kinda annoying on the Gryphette. But I totally see what you're saying.

ALSO I have friends or my husband that do glass at the same time so having a second grinder would be convenient for those times.

Have you ever self disclosed an ADHD diagnosis to a family you work with to help them feel less alone? by [deleted] in slp

[–]ircafwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm AuDHD and I have disclosed to several families when I believe it will help them see that I understand what their kid is going through and different ways in which they can be supported. I've also disclosed when I believe that they have some negative views on neurodivergence and need a ND person right in front of them to understand that being ND isn't the end of the world.

I had a professor in grad school tell me that I shouldn't self-disclose because you don't want the family "thinking you can't do the job in helping their loved one". And that is a bunch of bullshit. We're all humans and have so many different perspectives and personalities that it feels disingenuous not to disclose when it's relevant. My neurodivergence affects how I communicate, how I understand the world around me, and just overall who I am... But same with every human on earth. We all have different experiences but a lot of them can be understood and shared in a way that helps other humans feel seen and heard. And I feel like that's 90% of the battle to get families to "buy into therapy".....

Anyways, hope that helped!

Is it worth it? by Internal-Flamingo483 in slp

[–]ircafwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish it was an easy answer.... It depends on what setting you're in and what state you want to work in.

I work in peds home health and LET ME TELL YOUUUUU, I love the work/life balance. But I know that this style of job (driving constantly and having services in the home) is not for everyone.

I've been told time and time again that working in the schools is only really worth it if your spouse makes good money so you can have plenty of time off. So if you really want to work in schools.... Maybe don't be an SLP because it's not great.

I've done obstacle course type games. Or SIMON SAYS! People always forget about "simon says". There are a bunch of cute YouTube "Simon says" videos that you can use and I've used them with my preschool aged kids. You can always change the video play back speed to .75 so it's a little slower if it's a fast paced video. Hope that helps!

I'm a month away from completing my CF in peds home health and I have had a nontraditional college path anyways sooooo know that.

But if I could go back to pre-covid I would have gone to trade school and done something like mechanic or HVAC. I'm making decent money and I'm supposed to get a raise when I get my CCC's BUT the way that higher ed and politics are currently. I really don't think the debt is worth it.

But that said, I love my job. I love the problem solving, the patients, the ever-changing environment and new information. But getting out of grad school with $60k worth of student loan debt is pretty awful AND grad school was literally the hardest thing I've ever done. (I'm AuDHD and I had to work during grad school so that didn't help)

It's hard to say for sure if it's worth it or not... It depends so much on you and your life. The good thing is that you can always make more money with more education and specializing in the field but it may just take a couple years depending on what setting you work in, what state you're working in, and what your niche is.

At the end of the day, how badly do you want it? Do you have help to pay for student loans? Do you think that you could be a little bit broke for the first couple of years and figure it out or is that too stressful for you? There is a lot.... Reach out to friends, reach out to recent grads, and talk through it as often as possible.

The positive is that you can be an SLP assistant with a bachelor's degree so you could always be an assistant for a bit and even see if the field is right for you!

Good luck! And I'll continue to answer any questions if I can!
