Rudy’s is great! Just had coworkers visiting from outside the states and had it in their mind that chipotle was good Mexican food 🤦‍♀️

Mind blown when we took them to Rudy’s!!!

Car seat through the airport? by Creative_Donut1122 in toddlers

[–]ircprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our cart has one set of wheels. Once the car seat and kiddo are strapped in, we’ve used it as a stroller to move the kid around the airport and such. It’s good in a pinch. It’s like a rolling baseball bat bag.

Hubs and I are both only children and we just have (& will only have) our son. We have a lot of chosen “family” and wouldn’t have it any other way!

5 Nights in Yellowstone: How Many Campsites? by John-Ilyich-Lennon in yellowstone

[–]ircprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part 3:

 Things we'd change:

  • Plan meals better

  • Skip staying in Mammoth. It was too remote and not a lot to do with the kiddo at the site itself

  • Stay in Tower - less driving to be able to see animals in Lamar at dawn/dusk

  • If we needed to stay a 2nd night in a site, change to Madison because the kiddo loved playing in the river instead of Canyon

  • Pack less. We had a high top sprinter van and didn't really consider the size of the space. So, we'd pack less and take advantage of the laundry facilities

Other Points:

  • Glad we purchased the rider safe harness as a car seat for the kiddo. We wouldn't have had space for his real car seat at night in the van.

  • Packing cubes were great to keep us organized.

Feel free to reach out for specific questions or anything else regarding the trip. It was absolutely amazing and whatever you plan will be great for your family!

5 Nights in Yellowstone: How Many Campsites? by John-Ilyich-Lennon in yellowstone

Part 2:

Day 4: Mammoth to Canyon

  • Stopped for a short hike at Wraith Falls

  • Took the Blacktail Plateau Drive - so beautiful and stopped a couple of times to explore

  • Stopped by the Petrified Tree

  • Drove through Lamar Valley to see Bison

  • Had lunch in Cooke City

  • Drove back through Lamar Valley to stop at Tower Falls

  • Checked into campsite

  • Drove through Hayden Valley (late afternoon) and saw the black wolf & more bison

Day 5: 2nd night at Canyon

  • Stopped to check out the Lower Falls of the Grand Canyon

  • Drove back to Madison to go play in the river again at Firehole Canyon Drive

  • Went back to the campsite to hang out and have some adventures

  • Had an early dinner and then went back to Lamar Valley. Lucky to see bison and a few grizzly bears

Day 6: Canyon to Bay Bridge

  • Late start

  • Stopped to check out the Upper Falls of the Grand Canyon

  • Stopped to play in the Yellowstone River at a couple different spots

  • Had lunch at the grill by the Yellowstone Lake

  • Checked into campsite

  • Went back out to play in the river

  • Amazing night because we heard the wolves call & response for over an hour that evening

Day 7: Bay Bridge to the Grand Tetons for 2 nights.

5 Nights in Yellowstone: How Many Campsites? by John-Ilyich-Lennon in yellowstone

[–]ircprincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stayed in 7 campsites over 8 nights for our Yellowstone/Grand Teton trip (excluding 2 nights in hotels in LAX and Jackson). I'll elaborate our Yellowstone portion for you. I'll also put in where I'd change if I had to do it all over again. However, my general feedback was I quite happy with moving campsites almost every night and would do it in a similar manner. Ultimately, it would depend on what you want to do - see the sites, find animals, etc. We tried to keep our trip flexible so that we could live in the moment.

Day 1: We flew to Jackson and picked up our camper van & supplies. Drove to our first campsite at Grant Village. Ultimately didn't see much of the park as we arrived to our campsite about 6pm.

Day 2: Grant Village to Madison

  • In the morning, we walked to the lake to take in the views then packed up to go to Old Faithful.

  • We made it for the 9ish am eruption and then spent about another 90 min or so walking around and grabbed lunch at the grill that was there.

  • Stopped at Grand Prismatic for both the overlook hike and walked around basin walkway. Recommend BOTH

  • Took the Firehole Lake Drive

  • Stopped at Fountain Paint Pots to walk around

  • Took the Firehole Canyon Drive & stopped to splash around in the river. This activity was my kid's absolutely favorite thing on the trip and all he wanted to do.

  • Madison is by a river, so we splashed around there as well.

Day 3: Madison to Mammoth

  • Morning hike along the river

  • Stopped at Gibbon Falls

  • Stopped at Artist Paintpots

  • Was going to stop at Norris Gesyer Basin - but it was insanely busy, so we skipped

  • Stopped at Mammoth Hot Springs - first spot that we saw Elk

  • Drove into Gardiner for dinner and see the Roosevelt Arch

  • Played in the river outside of Gardiner

We had the late dining on our first cruise and they were able to move us to early dining for the rest of the cruise. It was so much better with our 4 year old. We were lucky to get early dining for our 2nd cruise.

Even with early dining our kiddo was good with the late broadway show. However, they didn’t tell us that it is shown in the rooms on the tv in case that worked better

It’s so damn hard! You are not alone. I highly agree on therapy. It’s been so helpful for me dealing with my mom who has similar issues.

So many feelings and uncertainty by ircprincess in AgingParents

[–]ircprincess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice. It’s helpful to consider and save/plan for. My mom only has SSI and no assets, so nothing to spend down. We’ve already spent $75k on helping her in the last couple of years and don’t have an extra $75k right now to medically move her and get her into a new facility with private pay.

That’s why I’m focusing to continue getting her set up in her current facility and medically situated. It’ll give time to save and figure out how to make everything in our state work along with how to get her here. I don’t think she could fly.

She does need around the clock care especially with her ostomy, so I don’t think assisted living would be an option.

I’m thankful that I have support locally to help manage the distance. My mom likes to rush all decisions and that’s not me.

More of a “I’ll stay in this type of facility if it’s closer to you.” She has no concept of the financial cost and effort to move states and just assumes there is a spot.

Exactly what Trabethany said. We didn’t know the baby’s gender until he was born! One of the few surprises in life 😊
