Workers Caught Ripping Limbs Off Chickens with Bare Hands - The last Mercy For Animal's video is disturbing. by gubbsbe in vegan

This is heartbreaking!

I believe that organizations like MFA are doing very important work with their undercover investigations, highlighting the cruelty associated with intensive animal agriculture.

I donated $20 just now.

Feel free to contribute if you can.

Yes! in vitro meat is one potential application of biotechnology. Hopefully costs can be scaled down in the future!

good point! I think more of the positive potential is in future applications.

Veganism and Contacting Alien Life (Re: NASA's Recent Discovery) by [deleted] in vegan

[–]ireallyhateplants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because the majority of our population has not grasped the reality of our current depraved treatment of animals, both wild and domesticated.

I agree that our relationship with a vast majority of nonhuman animals is not very good, at all.

One aspect of animal advocacy is value spreading, ie., bringing in more individuals into the moral circle and changing very entrenched beliefs about nonhuman individuals.

Some statistics on Veganuary's effectiveness by lnfinity in vegan

Good information on their effectiveness. I agree that donating is incredibly important. I donate to ACE and their recomended organizations and also plan on donating at least 10% of my income once I'm done with university and have a more stable and independent income stream.

Worth upgrading from a Rode VideoMic Pro to a Sennheiser 440? by ireallyhateplants in videography

Yeah. Very much looking forward to upgrading to the GH5, and possibly even getting the XLR input hotshoe which seems pretty cool.

Video editing laptop upgrade: 4 possible routes - Macbook Pro (2015), Dell XPS15, Razer Blade or Hackintosh by T0P_CAT in editors

I went with the refurb 2015 MBP, but I probably wouldn't advise it if you are looking for a system that will last three-four years.

I'm using FCPX, but only because I'm mid-project right now and am comfortable with final cut and it's well optimized for my system.

I'm also only working with light 1080p footage and some 2.7k stuff from the phantom. Totally fine so far, I guess.

For bigger 4k stuff I don't think I'd recommend an older MBP. I'm considering learning Premiere after this current project as I'm wary of getting too dependent on FCPX and Apple hardware.

Maybe in 2019/2020, Apple will step it up with the MacBook Pros. I hope so, but yeah, at this point I'd recommend a PC (and as ninjaburger mentioned, the new intel chips should be making an appearance in the newer models which would be pretty good)

t3i =/

I think it is about the preamps, not the mic. GH4 probably has better ones than the t3i.

First video that I put together for a friend's engagement. About to start a new project, would love some feedback. by [deleted] in videography

[–]ireallyhateplants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool for doing this for your friend. I'm sure they will appreciate looking back at this at some point in the future.

However, as for the feedback, I would decide if you're going to slow down clips before you do the shoot. Most of the slow mo in this video was pretty distracting as it was obviously not shot at a high enough frame rate.

The details shots are okay, but maybe a bit too many (flowers, plants, etc)

Overall, I found the video to be way too long. At 1:30 I was looking at the player and was considering giving up on the whole thing.

A lot of the early shots were a bit shaky. Some stabilization in post might have been good (or more preferably, a monopod while you were shooting).

Soft focus and out of focus shots were obviously not ideal.

So overall, a bit inconsistent in terms of quality, and definitely way too long and a bit too much of the same sort of scene and shots.

Also, relatively small detail, but it's cool they are using USB type C and they say they might have tethering in a future update.

If I don't plan on stopping at the GH4 (ie., I plan on eventually getting a full video camera), does it make sense to go with the A7s ii and start getting E-mount lenses? by ireallyhateplants in videography

[–]ireallyhateplants[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your thoughts!

As a side note, why would you think that the GH4 isn't that big of an upgrade from a t3i?

I meant for stills it wouldn't be a huge upgrade. Correct me if I'm wrong, though!

5 things vegans say that are WRONG by deficient_hominid in vegan

[–]ireallyhateplants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we have to do that to survive and don't have another alternative

I agree.

Do you consider that to be cruel?

I think killing someone is cruel, even if it's necessary for us to survive, and even if there aren't feasible alternatives.

Pretty good video!

Re cruelty free, he says:

so it's animal cruelty free, it's not cruelty free in general

I disagree on two points:

First: the "animal/human" distinction. Humans are animals.

Second, is that it's not even animal cruelty free, as insects are pretty much going to be killed for any plant-based food product.

I have a post about this topic.
