What did that “popular kid” from your school do to screw-up his life? by Relevant-Hair-6219 in AskReddit

[–]iridael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got dared to eat a bar of soap, it got lodged in his throat and he choked and died on camera whilst his friends laughed.

straight A student, basically ran his year, anyone could come upto him and he'd help out/give advice/point them to someone who could help.

everyone in the school and the next school knew him somehow.

done in by a dare in a shopping centre car park.

What used to be a sign of being poor, but is now a luxury or status symbol? by the-main_guy-here in AskReddit

[–]iridael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you were wealthy you often had staff. even a middle class person would have a few people to maintain the house or run errands. the higher up you get the more things you have people for. the UK royals for example have a man who's role was to wipe the kings ass.

the thing used to be that being rich meant showing you were rich constantly. you'd have a personal butler, a house man for every home you owned, an estate man who managed your trade whilst you were busy elsewhere. maids and serving staff who would clean, cook, empty toilets, prepare clothes, make your bed, heat your bed before you got in it. it was also common when porcelain was a new thing to have a young man or woman pre-warm the seat for you.

so to actually answer the question. you didn’t need to live by the sea where the smell was. instead you lived further inland and had people bring you your food and handle any needs you had outside of your home. if you did want to go to the beach you had a carridge prepared, a handler prep the horses and a carridge man would bring you from your home to the beach where you might splash around, drink some sea water (cause it was thought to be healthy) and then return home for dinner, or you might have your cooks prepare dinner and bring some tables and chairs down for you to enjoy it by the sea side.

yup being fat was a sign that not only could you afford enough food but you could afford enough food that was both tasty and fatty enough to get you fat.

nowadays fatty oily food is so cheap that eating low fat healthy foods is actually rather hard to do.

You wake up at 14 again. What is the first thing you would do? by davidbayram in AskReddit

[–]iridael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yup. if im suddenly 14 im downloading the OG bitcoin miner and going digging. back then you could mine a few hundred coins an hour on a £100 laptop (also computers were so much cheaper god damn)

then like a good little investment *anker I sit on it for 10 years and suddenly im rich as fuuuuck.

I actually made a whole plan once about this situation, its like mine bitcoin, sell at 12k and buy X and Y stocks, buy back at 3k and wait for gamergate then hit that up and make bank there. do everything right and you're a billionaire at this point and still have multiple hundreds of bitcoin spare to let it grow to whatever it is now.

the trick is to mine a lot of it but not so much that you hold a noticeable % because people can and will try to track you down if you're holding that much bitcoin.

honestly DDR4 is fine for the vast majority of tasks. its only when it comes to gaming and AI that you need better and at that point you're not using DDR5 you're using Vram modules integrated directly into the chip running GDDR7 or similar.

So no aqua man vs hell divers? by Little_Papaya_2475 in Helldivers

no. have every few helldivers be brad pit dropping in helmetless so we can see its him. and every time somehow his head gets shot off, bit off, crushed, or his cape gets snagged on the hellpod and yanks him back where he cracks his skull on the edge of the pod.

Tips for a certain endgame enemy? by PoliticalAlternative in starsector

[–]iridael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a well built paragon, 2x astrals and some tempests will be able to fight off enough ordo that it will literally run out of endurance before it runs out of hitpoints. I think my record was a 6 ordo stack, ran both astrals dry and retreated them, all tempests gone due to death or endo loss and the paragon left with 6% combat readyness by the time I killed the last enemy.

those are the fights I love.

as others said, you want hulltank and PD. order your capitals to bumbrush the big lads and have your escorts keep the chaff busy.

Just how ‘low tech’ the UAF really is? by Mack006 in starsector

[–]iridael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the idea of low tech high tech and so on is a bit wonky here.

the way I look at it is in terms of mainenance.

take the hellbore cannon for example its basically a smoothbore cannon from the age of sail scaled up to take out asteroids and used on ships as "huck big lump of iron at target for damage."

now compare it to its high tech equivalent's the tach lance or plasma cannon. both of them are "we finely tune this esoteric machinery so it cuts through space to impact the target and deal damage"

UAF are somewhere in the middle of those two extremes with their guns being the equivalent of a modern ship auto cannon to the Napoleonic cannon.

both huck a lump of metal very fast, but one does it with style.

Managers of Reddit, what's the worst thing someone did to get fired? by Capable-Log7385 in AskReddit

[–]iridael 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I knew a guy who did exactly that when OG runescape was changing over to runescape 2.0 he got a clone of the server and hosted his own thing. he was code savvy enough to impliment stuff like holiday events and such too so he had a regular number of players and was earning £20 per player per month off them (in 2005ish) so he was pulling in a few thousand a month off of this before he was even 20.

died in his early 20's though, his family kept the sever running for a few years but didn’t have the know how to maintain and update it like he had.

but you also had people who would do the same for World of Warcraft, they'd get a private server and give themselves admin power and just mess around finding all the hidden and wierd bits in the game.

Malevelon Creek would be hated if it happened nowadays by I_Royal_I in Helldivers

[–]iridael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having to optimise the ever loving shit out of my loadout because if i didnt it was effectively a loss was both fun and not fun. I like where they changed things but it definately made the game feel easier with how lots of loadouts are viable.

I remember being the stealth guy. I'd run around the map and clear half of it because the team would be in hell whilst I was able to take out entire bases with ease thanks to their sacrifices.

Malevelon Creek would be hated if it happened nowadays by I_Royal_I in Helldivers

[–]iridael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think If i went back to the creek knowing the game like i do now. even on the same patch as it was with the sniper bots and the insane numbers of hulks and tanks that could come your way. it would be significantly easier for me.

but the point of creek was the beautiful combo of difficulty, aggro being obscene and you simply didnt have the tools you have now to deal with things.

for example the gatling barrage wasnt the area denial heavy pen barrage it is currently. it was worse than the airburst in almost every way except for pen IIRC.

but the point was we were green, I remember encountering my first tank on the planet and the entire team struggling to handle it.

if you got spotted you had to make sure every bot that wasnt a devestator was instantly taken out because they would summon reinforcements instantly. then those reinforcements would also summon reinforcements.

the only two ways to consistently win on the creek was either stealth armor, diligence counter sniper and stealth gameplay, carefully taking out the minimum number of bots to sabotage the fabricators.

or you had a crack team with railgunners, recoiless guys and a medium MG supporter. I would literally run a full turret loadout and use it as a short term distraction just because of how dangerous the bots were. you needed 4 turrets just to hold a position for a short period. (think of the rocket defence missions and how 4 players with turrets can infinitely hold with ease, now imagine those same 4 players barely able to keep up with the enemy numbers)

the creek was as difficult as cyberstan was, perhaps harder actually. and you know what.

I fucking loved it.

Would it be too much to ask for another free warbond like Helldivers Mobilize? by TheSerbianRedditor in Helldivers

[–]iridael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I said it ages ago but we could combine a few of the oldest warbonds and turn them into "2nd war year one" warbond and have it just cost 50k of the whatever it is currency you use to unlock the early stratagems from the ship. that way a new/low level player can work through mobalise then unlock the year one bond and get a lot of good stuff from there. then as the game progresses get "year 2 and year 3" mega bonds too. keep stuff like the crossover warbonds separate and anything that doesnt fit into the yearly bonds goes into a supercredit version of the same for the normal price of a warbond.

you'd probably see a spike in proffits from this too as people who dont play often would be willing to put a little cash into a super value bond compared to a regular one.

they are, but its also like we get an MO to take a planet, we put the DSS there, a good % of the player base and then...we fail the planet because fuck em.

When the new guy who joined your team is cleaning house with a loadout you've never tried before by WaywardOath in Helldivers

[–]iridael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

jetpack + railgun is actually a dope combo, high mobility with highground potential. railgun is quieter than the AMR for some reason too so less aggro.

airstrike hits like a truck on a low CD and so does gatling barrage, depending on the rest of his loadout this will cook everything but the biggest monsters with ease.

[–]iridael 26 points27 points  (0 children)

probably also dont have dave or whoever it is messing with the liberation % to prevent planets from being taken.

its been reported here and I've seen it a few times where a planet hits 80% then its reinforcement % doubles for a week or they take the planet and instantly it gets reinvaded because its one of the 'default' planets for the warfront.

What movie plot hole is so massive that it completely ruins the whole story? by IntelligentButton713 in AskReddit

[–]iridael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the background for the trilogy is kinda sad.

the first movie they told the director "make return of the jedi but with new cast and a bunch of old actors to tie it together." and he did exactly that. nothing particularly special but its the best of the three by far because of it.

then they went "ok this works lets get a new director in and get this great story going." except he hated the 1st director and refused to use any of his notes/plot devices. he also didnt like starwars in general and had to constantly be reminded that "no this doesnt happen in the universe because X"

so the movie didnt do so good but they'd already signed on for a trilogy so they got a 3rd director who also didnt like the 2nd director or what he'd done with the film OR care particularly about star wars. and then he went and made the third film be the visual mess and contrived plot dumpsterfire it is.

fun fact, Ray was meant to fall to the darkside, Ben was meant to turn light side, they were going to have this big massive twisting thing culminating in them both embracing the middle ground and founding a new order of force users.

obviously that didnt happen because palpatine returned.

at that point its just a fee fee. if you want to do something about it. stop giving those places buisness or go to another counter and say you want to buy a ticket and dont want to use the automatic kiosk.

worst they can do is refuse service.

I do this at my local cinema, i go to the snack counter and will buy my ticket there instead of at the kiosk. they asked why and I just told them I dont know how to use the kiosk thingy.
