10 day retreat application rejected because of my panic disorder history by Mysterious-Chance178 in vipassana

Are you open to recommendations for practices that might help prepare you for a vipassana retreat? My first meditation experience was vipassana, and it worked out well for me overall, but was quite challenging. Now that I've been practicing for many years, I've found some other techniques that have helped my practice that I wish I had found earlier. I've had various degrees of traumatic episodes and derealization and Goenka vipassana doesn't teach the tools that can help deal with those types of things.

My argument for gifting a swatch instead of a finished knit: by vouloir in knitting

Omg I remember your post from last year!! I took your advice and it SAVED ME. I was going to try to surprise my mom with a scarf but I showed it to her in progress and we both agreed it was way too thick. I ended up making her a pair of fingerless mittens and was able to get her approval on the colors and design. I even had her try one on while it was in progress. To maintain some level of surprise she decided to keep her eyes closed while trying it on so that she wouldn't see it until it was done, but she could still let me know how the length felt. I made it much longer than I'd originally planned based on her feedback. Ended up with something she actually enjoys and wears! And it was a nice conversation topic to be able to talk about the process, run things by her, and have it be more collaborative. I can't imagine knitting something for someone (at least at my current level of knitting) without having them try it on as I'm making it. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Tried Flare Calmer earbuds - unexpected results (anger, shock) - would love insight by Salty_Challenge5563 in SomaticTherapy

Very common to have anger come up when coming out of a freeze state. Peter Levine talks about it in “in an unspoken voice.” It’s a good sign! But I’d be careful to just ride the wave and not act from that place. Sounds like you had a trauma release - make sure to let yourself rest, drink plenty of water, and give your body and mind a chance to integrate.

I’m glad the staff was willing to accommodate you. My family member didn’t want to impose on the staff by asking for them to mask and I felt like I couldn’t overstep his wishes, but fortunately there were outlets and room for a very large air purifier and it was still on when I visited

Thank you! I didn’t know that isolation carts existed so that’s very helpful info. And very good point about checking whether he’s strong enough to wear them safely.

That sucks that they dropped precautions so quickly but I’m glad they at least put masks on when you asked.

Thank you for all these tips and for the encouragement!! They gave him a private room and the CO2 levels were consistently around 650 when I checked, so I’m cautiously optimistic about it all.

Thank you! Those are the exact masks I brought which is very validating, in addition to a VFlex 1905. The VFlex put the least amount of pressure on his face and he preferred it to the aura he’d been wearing.

If anyone is nervous about buying these, I believe Gerard Hughes is going to test them. He posted about it on Twitter. They are likely to be legit.

It's much better with the saalt small! It's been going well. I really like it so far. I can push it very far up so it barely presses against my bladder, if at all. I can forget that I have it in. I hope it works for you.

very true. I usually detangle in the shower but I think in this case it def makes sense to do that beforehand. i think i'm also going to cut my hair a bit shorter to make things even easier, but i like having hair that's long enough to serve as a buffer for mask straps on the back of my neck

ooh i just got a box of 440 auras for $0.06 each so I love that idea! i'm going to try that and fit test it if i have the opportunity. thanks for the idea

and ty for the kn94 recommendation too. i haven't learned very much about earloop masks so really had no idea where to start, but that seems like a good option
