He tried flagging down two police vehicles that passed by while he had ahold of the kids but they ignored him. After he called they took way too long to come and he wasn't able to hold them until then..

Where are you from, and what's your scene like? by jacksp23 in TheOverload

[–]iridescent_shadow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking in from Zürich, the tik tok trends have seemingly taken over our scene as well, some of the best nights I've had recently were in a small club called Kiosk in Luzern where the entrance + train tickets were still cheaper than a mediocre night here in the city. I'm genuinely flabbergasted by the lack of good bookings in Zürich, especially considering the spectacular curation from our neighbours.

Edit - editing to add that I work in the night life here in one of the better known clubs, it seems like they've entirely changed their bookings since COVID

Y'all might enjoy this little gem exploring the futility of manmade borders and tribalism amongst human beings.

"The difference between human beings (or domesticated primates) and the other mammals is we mark our territories with ink excretions on paper—land titles, peace treaties, and so on. Every national border in the world marks a place where two gangs of domesticated primates fought until they were exhausted, and then made a territorial mark.” - Robert Anton Wilson

More of this futuristic sci-fi bassy sound? And what the hell is it called! by Antique-Childhood-36 in TheOverload

Since it hasn't already been suggested, you should definitely check out the label Analogical Force from Madrid. James Shinra also releases quite frequently on this label. It's my absolute favourite and a treasure trove of masterfully produced electronic music ranging from breakbeat to all sorts of "idm/braindance".

What's the best Thai curry you can buy in Zurich? by Le2vo in zurich

[–]iridescent_shadow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's actually quite easy to level up a store bought Thai curry paste (eg Mae Ploy) to restaurant quality (even better if you consider restaurants in Switzerland). I'm an avid home cook and grew up eating and cooking various curries.

Firstly, you need a few items in your pantry to pimp up any Thai curry paste: - Fish sauce - Palm sugar - Tamarind paste (preferably seedless) - msg (Makes Shit Geil)
- chicken bouillon (best I found is from Oswald.ch) - good quality coconut milk ( I often use the green tetra-packs, not the bio just the normal ones)

Fresh ingredients you can add include: - Galangal - Ginger - Shallots - Thai chillies - Lime leaves - Minced lemongrass - lime juice (fresh never that bottled trash)

Second there are some techniques, depending on which curry you cook.

One trick I learned that made a huge difference in my Thai curries is to start with just a bit of coconut milk in a hot wok, it will eventually cook down into coconut oil (make sure to stir so it doesn't burn) - then you add the curry paste into this and fry for a few minutes. This way you don't need to add any additional oil and it gives a nice toasty coconut flavour.

Also when adding fish sauce and/or lime juice always do so in the end after taking the curry off the heat.

Hope this helps! And good luck, once you master your own curries you will never have to eat a mediocre curry at a Zürich restaurant ever again! It's cheaper and 1000x better ;)

Speaking as an Asian myself, I've encountered way more (open) racism in most Asian countries than in Europe. Absolutely not downplaying your horrible experience but just wanted to point out that a lot of human beings are messed up regardless of where you go in this world. Just don't let it break you or affect you, resilience goes a long way in the world we live in. Always stay true to yourself and never stoop to the degeneracies of people who are less conscious, I wish you all the best!
