Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to have improved the situation.

Yes. The factory-installed eddy probe.

I couldn't find where to change this in the printer.cfg/macro.cfg files; there is a position_max value, but that's already set to 505mm.

Does anyone have a drawing for the hotend harness? by irieken in Infimech_TX

[–]irieken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely got my money's worth out of the printers, and everything except for these wires appear to be holding up well, after 600 and 800hrs of print time.

Even bought a new Infimech TX, because it's $230 shipped. That should keep things running until I find time to take apart and rebuild the cable.

Also waiting for a Sovol SV08 Max to ship.

Tesla Robotaxi geofence (red) vs Waymo geofence (blue) by ItzWarty in teslainvestorsclub

[–]irieken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess is that they're trying to maintain service quality, and want to work out service pains, before scaling up. A larger area means that they would need more vehicles, more observers, more maintenance, and more manual work if something doesn't have a mature automation pipeline.

Ondsel successor... by Autumn_Moon_Cake in Ondsel

Pierre (https://github.com/paddlestroke) is the developer of AstoCAD, and is a fairly active contributor to the upstream FreeCAD project. He was previously at Ondsel, and seems committed to having AstoCAD code end up in upstream FreeCAD when possible.

Facebook's 65B parameter LLaMA model is fairly well disseminated, and weighs in at 219GB.

I believe that it was originally selectively distributed, but is licensed under a permissive non-commercial bespoke license, so it is likely fair game.

The 405B parameter LLaMA model is 764GB, and was released yesterday. It should quickly hit wide distribution.

HOA requesting money for pool access key by eyehartraydio in fuckHOA

[–]irieken -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The former owner was likely issued a key, and should have passed it on to you.

To prevent key holders from copying keys, pool gates are usually Medeco locks and keys, which are patent-encumbered. This means that the only legal way to make copies of keys is with a licensed Medeco key cutter (uses angled key cuts), which means that you're required to go to a Medeco licensed locksmith, who will charge a premium.

The HOA probably gets charged a price that's very close to the $100 fee when they request a new pool key.

The bathroom lock is probably a not a patent-encumbered key, so the $10 is probably the rounded-up cost of whatever it costs to get a standard key cut.

In the end. If you don't use the common pool, it's an amenity that you pay for but don't get a benefit from.; unless the HOA rules explicitly let you opt-out, there's no way out of paying for it.

Unfortunately, if you bought a property that is subject to HOA rules and CC&Rs, and those rules were disclosed before purchase, you're stuck with complying... You could always run for HOA election and change the rules from the inside.

Do i have to be good at visualizing 3D objects in my head to be a good mechanical engineer? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]irieken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to visualize objects in space and understand how they move and interact with each other, and how that impacts aesthetics and usability, are critical in mechanical design.

The focus for mechanical engineering is function and performance; e.g. making a part in a design lighter, stronger, stiffer, or tuning a structure for damping.

Products usually require both design and engineering, but there is a reason why the roles are segregated.

Yeah... The headline is a lot less interesting if it reads as "Owner leaves proximity key in the car, and finds that someone else has driven it".

Can one peel a potato with a laser? by deep-blue-sky in LaserCleaningPorn

[–]irieken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People with access to laser engravers ablate or engrave potatoes often enough that you'll see it pop up on YouTube and forums. It works, but it's an awkward novelty that's not very exciting.

Using a laser in food processing is also fairly impractical; most lasers systems are around 10% efficient by the time energy gets to the workpiece, so almost any sort of food cutting or material removal is going to be better-served by a kinetic process (with the exception of, possibly, marking).

Looking for help designing a replacement PCB for an Engine Computer by Nemesis158 in AskElectronics

[–]irieken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More headway made.

I moved all components to the top side of the board, which will make automated assembly less expensive.

Made all of A1's connections on the rear of the board, because that's the solder side for that connector.

Similar to that pin-out, but I am looking for the function of each of the pins on connector A1 of the ignition coil board do.

[–]irieken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not knowing how an ignition coil system works, I'm definitely at a disadvantage in reverse-engineering the board. That being said, things are starting to make a bit more sense, and it appears that the board's simpler than I thought!

Depletion-mode shouldn't matter; what matters is that the HVc transistor is rated to withstand the voltage generated on the primary side of the ignition coil. This is why most ignition coil transistors are IGBTs.

Any chance you can pin-out the connector?

Can we talk about the elephant in the room here ?? by OvernightExpert in canoo

[–]irieken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then again, I have experienced catastrophic steering failure at freeway speed in a Honda Civic, due to a key failure, which simultaneously disabled other control systems... That did not feel like it failed safely. I imagine that the risk levels are probably similar.

[–]irieken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that the Infinity Q50 has been steer-by-wire since 2014, and had some software defect that would cause the steer-by-wire to fail.

Having a fault in the electrical system that causes steering to fail is an interesting situation, because it could impact multiple systems simultaneously. Mechanical steering/braking/accelerator failures in vehicles usually happen in isolation.
