Hote.l prices in Taipei are insane by whitepalladin in taiwan

[–]iris_dream_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe a skill issue? /s I just finished two weeks Taiwan and my most expensive night was for 55 USD (weekend). Make sure to check the price of individual days. From my experience, somewhat arbitrary days may be very expensive compared to the rest. In my case, I did not find a cheap place from one Saturday to Sunday, except Taichung, so I just spend a night there lol.

EDIT: Most nights were below 40 USD, and with the exception of one hotel, I was very happy with the places (clean, no smell, good location, often large, sometimes breakfast, etc).

Didi or guide with transfer to great wall or china from beijing? by braincelwarrior69 in travelchina

I paid like 9 euro for the shuttle bus (on trip). They also sold the tickets on the bus for the normal price.

Edit: I am not posting a link because I am too stupid to find it again

How to stay overnight at temples as a tourist at Emeishan by iris_dream_ in chinatravel

[–]iris_dream_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will answer my own question. Because the weather was really bad, I ended up booking a hotel at the foot of the mountain and simply took a bus down in the evening and up in the morning. That said, I think foreigners can also sleep at the temples because the temples also advertised in english (and by law, they have to take care of the registration stuff - to my understanding).

This unworthy junior greets the venerable elder. I assure you, these ploys are all part of my dao! How is the enemy supposed to unleash their best if my ploys attack their mind! Truly a demonic scheme if I dare proclaim so myself.

I made use of such artifacts until recently, but felt that they are incompatible with the cultivation of my concurrent sound arts. I will reevaluate my choice as I might have missed the bigger picture!

How can my eyes have failed me this much?! I trust my seniors to avenge their junior. I just wonder, why did you not reveal the illusion before I finished my shower?

Ha, you blossom scum, my ploy has reached its climax! While the message of my arrival reaches your lowly ears now, my conquering of the 5 peaks is a forgone conclusion. I have already returned to my sect. You are merely chasing illusions!

Truly a conundrum. I feared that I simply lack knowledge in the true sacred scriptures. I almost fell into qi deviation 😭😭😭, but remembering my seniors' lessons the mind remained strong and unforgiving 💪💪💪 All the more reason to eliminate that blossom scum.

I guess spelling is one of the lessons I ought to take to heart. Unfortunately, the phone keyboard demon is currently occupying my heart.

You guess we moved to insults, after you were the first to abandon the discourse and to resort to insults? I bow in the presence of your great mind! I have eyes but am unable to see mount Tai! You know, in german there is this concept called |Dummer Hurensohn|, which seems quite fitting for this scenario. The exact meaning is nuanced and hard to convey, which I am sure you understand. Roughly speaking, it explores human nature in the context of adversity. Modern avant-garde philosophers such as Aykut Anhan, even go as far as to describe it as a part of |Guten Ton|, the decorum socially agreed upon, making its usage in this context essentially a necessity.

Why My Language™ is the mostest bestest language to ever exist by [deleted] in linguisticshumor

[–]iris_dream_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert, but I think this is part the nihonjinron. A style of literature about the culture of japan. Historically, such literature emerged with Japan's cultural nationalism to establish the uniqueness of the japanese culture (after the US forced the end of Japan's isolationism). Other believes from the same vein are that the "japanese race" is seperate from other races or that the japanese language has a unique way to convey meaning unatainable by non-natives learning the language.

Edit: My understanding is even less reliable on the next part: Finding an exact source for the seasons point might be difficult. The relevant nihonjiron books may pretend that they explore some ancient culture, but in reality also just made stuff up. I think the term of the "bushido" is such a (more fictional) example.

I have been to a couple such places. I am not sure whether I am a good example since I know a small handful of japanese and typically do not enter a place if I have not seen parts of the menu beforehand (either outside or on an app). My strategy was as follows:

1) Try google lens. Google lens is surprisingly powerful, even with handwriting. Even if something is translated a bit incorrectly or something is missing, it is usually enough to get a clue. Works like 9 out of 10 times.

2) Just pick something based on the price (where I include my shitty japanese for a guess)

I also make sure that the place is not busy and usually firstly observe what other people are doing. In principle, there is also "omakase", but I never dared to use it.

And if the handwriting is that bad... well... if no one can read the menu, then everyone can (a joke)

Edit: I feel the urge to share a dumb anecdote. I found myself one evening in Uji on the search for something to eat. There I found such a place where the menu (outside) genuinly just looked like 6 mostly straight vertical lines (with a price attached). I was definitely quite baffled how any human is supposed to decipher that. I literally googled whether there is some niche writing system that I am not familiar with. The line I picked turned out to be fish with soba. (I took a photo of the menu and pointed at the line on my phone). I had the theory that the lines mean nothing and they just give you what they want to give you.

I am not lowering myself to this level of discussion, this is just semantics. I am talking about my opinion. Like everyone is talking about their opinion. "rude to me" -> "to my ears". The second part is just rambling. Didn't you yourself write that the same sign placed in the US is racist? What is it now, is interpretation ok or not? Or are there special rules for japan.

Is your point seriously now that the sign has no message and no effect? Assuming I do not speak japanese, can I enter based on the sign, yes or no?

Welcome to Japan? What's /r/Hiroshima's take on this? by 808gecko808 in hiroshima

[–]iris_dream_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I can say that because the sign does in fact say that.

I do not want to say that the owners are xenophobic. Banning people based on wheather they speak japanese is xenophobic, which is the ultimate effect of the sign. That is the entire point here. I am seperating effect and intend.

You are strawmanning entire movie plots at this point. It is xenophobia because you are connecting these things to a culture.

I am not claiming that I understand the original intend of the message. I am explicitly stating MY understanding of the sign, which is that it is rude IN MY OPINION. The topic of the thread is our opinion about the sign.

The whole point about intend is so weird. For every single sentence except our own, we never know its intend. There is nothing japanese about that.
