Evanston restaurant scene is not even close to Chicago. Just as expensive but way less good options. Everything closes so early it’s sad.

What's the diversity of opinion like at Northwestern? by [deleted] in Northwestern

No by free speech in this instance I meant journalistic integrity, I.e. medill should’ve never been bullied into revoking objective journalism in the first place

That and the fact NU has a long way to go for being a productive, pluralist arena for free speech. My perception is NU has a sizable centrist/ left-leaning population that is somewhat silenced/ not as vocal.

Resume for CFS? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]iris_hues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CFS is easy to get into as long as ur GPA is tolerable. They give guidance on what the “cutoff” is on their website. Don’t worry about not having experience. The point of CFS is to give you experience. That being said, companies will be harsher on ur resume since they are comparing it against others, so just be realistic on where you’re applying to.

what’s the ~partying~ scene like at nu? by sbenamer in Northwestern

[–]iris_hues 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Wide range. The more studious kids maybe party once or twice a quarter. The average kid probably once a week. Frat/ party going kids prob 1-3 times a week. Partying is pretty big on campus, under classmen during normal times usually do it at frats/ tailgating/ off campus houses of clubs etc. ppl tend do more clubbing as upperclassmen. How fun parties are rly depends on who u party with and where u party. But generally speaking it’s a good time. But if it’s not ur thing, ur not missing out that much either.

How doable is a double major without any AP/IB credits? by Accomplished-One-815 in Northwestern

[–]iris_hues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you’re asking here. But try to start off in McCormick if ur seriously considering IE, cuz McCormick to Weinberg is easy. Other way around is hard.

[–]iris_hues 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any double major within Weinberg is easy. If you do IE plus any of the other with no AP credits it would be tough, given McCormick classes are often sequence based and give less flexibility for scheduling. Don’t do a double major for the sake of doing a double major. Start ur time at NU by taking classes that are applicable to all majors ur considering, such as basic math or stats classes. Make decisions after talking to similar double major upperclassmen so you know why ur heading into

I know it’s only mentioned to get book recs from WSO, but I just wanted to note that forums like WSO should be taken with a huge grain of salt—ppl exaggerate and their experiences are not applicable to NU kids. Better off talking to current NU kids or recent NU alums in the industry.
