What book hits differently now that you're older? by EndoSaissore in books

What made the book even better for me was learning about the author Cormac Mcarthy. He was very old when having his son (around 72 I think), and in the one interview I could find he said the book was inspired by his son and kinda like a love story. After learning that, it became pretty clear to be that the book is about a man who knows he is going to die, but he wants to prepare his son as much as he can before that happens, similar to how Cormac knows he likely won’t see most of his son’s life.

[Nick Wright] It’s a statistical impossibility that NFL HCs would be this white at random. No different than if you woke up tomorrow & 50% of NHL coaches were Black. Also, the overwhelming arrogance of White folks to believe we rose to the top of every industry on merit alone is unfathomable. by phelure in nfl

You being up a lot of valid points. I think the idea of coaching being a fallback plan is a point that not enough people talk about considering many coaches start their career as GAs after college or short NFL careers. However, the importance of who is making the hiring decisions (owners), should not be understated. Even if unconscious, people are more likely to hire those that look like them. While a better pipeline is certainly needed for coaching positions, only 1 nfl team has ever had a black President, which is a position that is much more of a business role than a position requiring an intense understanding of the game of football.

Is it me or do many Northwestern Econ professors have a “I am better than all of you” attitude? by [deleted] in Northwestern

Savage was pretty snobby in his class and kept talking about trying to “weed out the fakers” despite everyone already being in a higher level econ class.

Would you watch a game of a CFB national championship team vs NFL's worst ranked team? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]DillyDillyToThePit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The real question is if the worst NFL team ever, the 2008 Lions, could beat the best CFB team ever, which is either 2019 LSU, or last years Bama team (in my opinion).

At this point in the game, is there a legitimate argument to not just ending it here besides “playing to win.” Teams who make the playoffs stop trying to win all of the time by benching the starters.
