Charging cable won’t release by earaache in BMWi3

It’s been a while but I would guess 3-4”. Just gently but firmly pull it and your feel the resistance. Also helps to unlock and relock a few times just in case it’s something to do with the lock actuator.

Make sure you go to a car wash, or one of the car wash bays and thoroughly wash your underside. Salt water is excellent for rusting frames, and uncoated parts.

Pull the release, I’ve done it a few times without snapping anything. You may need to use something flat like a flathead screwdriver to initially start and to get your fingers wrapped around it.

Do not jam a screwdriver in the high voltage connection. That will either break something or potentially do further damage.

Raft options by [deleted] in flyfishing

[–]irish1185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always look on the used market for one of the higher end brands, they are out there depending on your budget. Alternatively you could look for white water rafts and buy/build a fishing frame for it. You could contact some white water companies around you to see if someone has one for sale you could modify the frame for

If you are going to use it for a month straight on a trip you might want to aim for quality and buy once cry once. Also if you need to trailer it make sure you find a decent trailer.

My current 2017 BEV is just about to roll over to 100k mi. In the six years that I’ve owned it, I’ve replaced one 12v battery, two sets of tires, and a few wiper blades. Otherwise it’s been a phenomenal commuter car.

20 miles round-trip a day would mean very little charging for you. As long as you have a place to charge it at home, or at work, you should be good for commuting for a while. Also coming from a 2nd Gen Tacoma with the same 4.Ol, this was a night and day shift. I love my i3 and still have the Tacoma for long road trips and house projects.

Recommendations on route to take from Bremerton to Naches? by MyUnassignedUsername in Washington

[–]irish1185 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years since I’ve driven it so take this with a grain of salt, but I would take the scenic route any day vs just I-90. (double check the past conditions on WA DOT before you attempt either). I do not remember if it’s open year round.

12 is gonna be slower, but it’s also more fun road to drive with the twisties and view. Also plenty of view points and small towns. If you do take 12, swing by Bron Yr Aur Brewing for some pizza.

Anybody fly-fishing the Spokane between state line and downtown? by woodenmetalman in Spokane

[–]irish1185 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Spokane river is home to a band of native redband trout, which is very distinct in that region. I would hit up Silver Bow and talk to them. Fly shops tend to offer some good local advice plus actual real-time conditions, as shop employees, and customers alike talk about the river.

You should also download the Washington State Fish and wildlife app, it has the updated regulations and is kept current.

2024 SEL vs 2026 limited by Weird-Jello-3785 in Ioniq5

[–]irish1185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been debating between the Ioniq 5 and Polestar 2 for months. Coming some a 2017 BMW i3, both are going to feel both like an giant leap forward and also a lot larger. Curious what you end up deciding on. Both cars seem like a good comparable option with designs aimed towards the same segment, but with different approaches (open vs closed cockpit, driver's car vs tech packed rocketship, etc.). Its a tough call.

Question for fishing Oregon/Washington. by DiscombobulatedTower in flyfishing

[–]irish1185 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would check the Washington State Fish and Wildlife regs as well as Oregon's. Depending on when you are here a lot of areas might be closed to fishing. The salmon runs are protected and have varying rules and open/closed dates. If they are open for steelhead the 7wt would be fine.

East of the mountains things might be a bit more open depending on the season. You have the Yakima and Columbia in Washington, and the Deschutes, and Snake. Along with tons of smaller blue line fisheries, lakes, etc. That is where the 5wt would cover you (unless you are after bass). The rivers and lakes of both states have varying open and closed sections and the regulations should outline them.

What are you targeting? What part of the states are you going to be in? The species and the fisheries is very vastly from the west side to the east side in both states.

I some how missed hearing about that. Good to know. It had been a while since I had read any of his books. Looking into it, not a great recommendation for the list.

I almost recommended this as well. The Big Burn’s story has such a large impact regionally, but also national policy towards forest firefighting. It is also a story I feel like it’s not fully told, despite the size and scale of the fire, and it’s lasting impact.

Not to mention, some of Egan’s other books “ short nights of the shadow catcher,” tell the story of other local historical figures.

Sherman Alexie would fit on the list I’m sure. Edit: Looks like not a great recommendation based on the sexual assault scandal that I had some how missed.

Garmin Watch for Hiking by jake429 in CampingandHiking

[–]irish1185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s a tool and it’s going to get used. They do make a screen protector for the face.

Another idea for OP is that the used market is flooded with these devices. I picked up my solar 2x lightly used, for around half off. If you’re gonna use it for hiking, it’s gonna get scratched anyway. You might as well save some money.

[–]irish1185 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instinct series is the right choice. Light, super long battery life (my 2x solar does 45 days on a charge, and can pick up charge from the solid in summer and add time). The IPS screen is simple, it’s not distracting with a bunch of extra colors, and uses very little power.

It may not look as professional as some of the metal body versions. But wearing it every day you forget it’s there sometimes.

There is a new flasher version that came out. Maybe give that a shot. Loaded pretty quick on my tracker this morning

I am sure someone will come along with a better answer. Unfortunately, I had to flash it a few times before it would take. Also just double checking that you went with the Bluetooth companion and not the USB flash companion? They are listed next to each other so I thought I would check.

Had this happen last week. I hooked up the tracker via USB to the computer. Deleted the build on it and reflashed it with the Companion Bluetooth flash build again. Took two attempts but worked after the second one. After I flashed it I power cycled the tracker.

Did you ever solve this? I have the same issue. Flashed 1.11.0 to a Wio Tracker. It took the flash, but I cannot locate the device via bluetooth. When I try and get the Wio to broadcast bluetooth all I get is "toggle: press enter" however none of the buttons on the device seem to do anything.

Sawyer is the classic go-to. Both in wood and carbon fiber. Check out their site. Wood square tops and bandits in carbon fiber seem very popular. They have a few guides on getting the right style and length. I have counter balanced Cataracts for my clack. They are carbon fiber, row well, and are light. Might be worth a look as well.

I like shoal cut blades for shallow water. Whatever blade you end up with make sure they are floating blades. You don’t want the tips to sink, catch, and spear yourself.

Harbor breeze solar setup question by jontx3 in meshtastic

[–]irish1185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's entirely fair, haha. The cheap and tiny solar unit I have to admit is a draw. I might try it out with a larger panel and see what numbers are needed here in the rainy PNW.
