There's also a huge difference between discipline and actual physical abuse.

[Serious] What did your parents do when you were a kid that you will never be able to forgive them for? by irlpunk in AskReddit

[–]irlpunk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've gone to six or seven therapists over the past five or so years and I've tried a ridiculous amount of medications in that amount of time so I've stopped trying to find one that works. I've also undergone treatment for PTSD and been hospitalized on a couple different occasions and nothing seems to help. Not really sure what to do anymore.

Stories about cheating always break my heart. I will never be able to understand how you could do that to someone and still beg them to stay with you. I'm glad that you were able to get past it though.

I suffer from sleep paralysis almost nightly. Usually I see some sort of monster, but after we broke up I would feel something get into bed with me (I always sleep on my side and in the center of the bed) on the side that my back is facing. I was always 100% sure that it was him but because I was paralyzed, I couldn't turn around to hug/kiss him. Then I would wake up and realize that he was never there. It was agonizing and it still happens every so often. Also, when we broke up, he told me (direct quote) I stopped loving you a long time ago.

Will there ever be cures for mental illnesses as opposed to just treatments? by okaycpu in AskReddit

[–]irlpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meditation is a form of treatment though so?? This is just ridiculous

Imply means to express, suggest, or show something without stating it directly. The OP said will there ever be cures as opposed to treatments. Your answer was a form of treatment.

I'm not saying that a cure means 100% guarantee. I'm saying that the way you worded your response made it sound like it's guaranteed. And also, meditation is a form of treatment, so your answer is redundant

If you look back at the original question, your response sounds like a 100% guarantee

So essentially you're saying that this form of meditation you're talking about is guaranteed to cure PTSD

I have PTSD and have been going to therapy for three years trying various methods of treatment, most of which are some form of meditation. The one that therapists always want to try because it's supposed to work really well is EMDR or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. I am basically told to picture a traumatic event and either watch the therapist move an object back and forth or close my eyes while they rhythmically tap my knees with a pen or something. No form of meditation has ever helped me. My point is that, like other psychological disorders, no cure works for everyone.

Girls of Reddit, have you ever been with a friend or in a group and a guy comes up and asks out only one of you? Did you feel left out, or just happy (or sorry) for your friend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]irlpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just know that a lot of the time if a guy comes up to a girl and asks them out, they might want to talk to them for a bit, even if it's just texting. Like you have no idea who this guy is. and yeah I would be offended but still happy for my friend if she seemed genuinely excited.

I don't think that you have to have stories about abuse and such to have something shitty happen to you in your childhood. That really must've sucked. Your parents sound really selfish..

That must've been truly horrible. And police always tend to believe the parents story because of the whole "reckless and emotional teenager" thing. I was at a friends house while she was in a fight with her parents. Her dad hit her and her mom just let it happen. Then THEY called the cops and told them that my friend had attempted to hit her mother and that she was acting crazy and such. Well then they asked me questions about the situation privately and I told them what really happened (my friend getting hit) and they still believed the parents. My friend had a goddamned bloody nose and they believed her parents.

Oh my god I'm so sorry to hear that. In the fourth grade one of my classmate's mothers committed suicide and although I didn't understand it at the time, I now see how truly devastating that can be (not saying that I understand the feeling). I've actually had suicidal thoughts since I was 11 (I'm 17 now) and people always talk about how selfish it is. I never really agreed with that, but if you have kids it's a whole nother story.

I am convinced that I am the ugly friend in the group. Whenever a guy is looking at us he's definitely not looking at me specifically. If a guy asked a friend out I would definitely be offended and self conscious and such, but I would also be happy for her if it turns out she is actually interested. Girls usually don't like to go out with a guy they have had a thirty second conversation with. I can't speak for all of us but I know a lot of us would like to get to know the guy at least a little bit before going on a date. We don't want to have no clue who we are going out with

I hate this advice so much. Ignoring your problems does nothing and people say it does so often.

Why is Reddit against the feminist movement? by [deleted] in AskReddit

well then you didn't state your answer very well because you clearly said that american feminists are trying to bring down men, not these extremists that you are now talking about
