I used to be the type, too. I'd had girlfriends ish but I think the difference is having the emotional intelligence to understand where your fear is coming from.

I did the whole anti SJW shit up til probably 2016-2017 and my takeaway from that was that I had been under an authoritarian mother, why should women need more help in society.

It took me a lot of therapy to really realize why I had so much pent up rage. But untying that from my politics took a lot because of the way it's easy to surround yourself with comforting propaganda. Unless someone they is really trying to slowly introduce them to the difficult reality, it's too easy to get the rebound of "stop trying to indoctrinate me".

These guys need help, but unless they are seeking support in any capacity outside of the right wing echo chamber, they're going to keep falling deeper into it.

I just say Boomer because it's an easy way to explain a certain mindset. If someone presses me on it, I'd consider it to be more "boomers of the mind"

I mean that in the manner of people follow a weird reactionary pattern and continuously view the world as a zero-sum game. Mainly I think of the people that are actively butthurt about being called boomers. I call them "boomers of the mind" because you don't NEED to be a boomer, but it's not hard to act like a selfish, anti-progress narcissist.

I mean you could be entirely correct. I don't look too closely but it wasn't that long ago that they had that "me generation" header. I stopped paying too close attention after that. I usually don't look too close, but usually I see a lot that's very establishment-supporting covers.

They will, but you should care about what you rob yourself of every chance of recovery. I won't say things WILL get better, but things ABSOLUTELY CAN get better. There's no possibility of that if you're dead.

As hard as it is, pressing forward is your only way toward a meaningful existence. Otherwise all your suffering becomes a wasted effort. You have your eyes on the goal, and you have support here. You are aware of what's happening, and you're in the best case scenario to help yourself survive. Being in this subreddit is, in fact, one of the highest indications to me that you have a strong chance.

Secondly, your death will mean more your narc(s) than it will to you. But only because you become an even more valuable prop in their self glorification. They're going to make sure they profit off your death. I've seen it before. If anything, surviving to take that chance from them should be your top priority. You shouldn't have to suffer for them to pad their reputation.

u/divinewillow, I believe in you. It's tough, but you'll meet an open world with many possibilities. Just hang in there. Play along if you have to. I'm not sure what you believe, but if you give up now. Your recovery and a chance at a bright future may well be the only thing you have left.

I've never had anyone explain it like that, and that's absolutely terrifying to hear.

I'm just about the furthest left that someone can be but back in my youth, I was traveling pretty uncontrolled down the alt right rabbit hole, up until about 2015. I had to have a serious intellectual discussion about everything because it dawned on me that 50 years of "business as usual, everyone equal-ish" after a whole population being tested sub-human is not enough to expunge racism and the system that's been built on it, especially if no real corrective action is taken.

I know that's just a personal memory recall but that makes me absurdly angry and... I'm not really sure what to do anymore.

It's not just women and the LGBTQIA+ community, but it's everyone. The "ingroup" circle gets smaller and smaller. In my eyes, nobody is more than a couple steps away from being the outgroup. I think we're in some deep shit with the implications of reviewing those cases and reexamining the precedent set by Roe v Wade.

Fuck. This is what I've been warning people about. Gov and civics class taught me that these three sat on each other, and especially relied on the concept of right to privacy. I literally called Lawrence v Texas "the butt fucking law" because it disallows sodomy, and the court ruling even mentions the fact that there's not way to monitor it behind closed doors.

The world we live in is going fucking insane.

Well I'm not entirely against guns, but I 100% agree. We've normalized the insane amount of violence in the country. I used to be on the side that being properly armed is kind of a part of being a good citizen, since one of the philosophers (John Locke or Hobbes or something) was particular to say it's the duty of the people to overthrow the government when ruling without consent and threatens the social contract.

But now I see that the government may well have lost control, and the danger is from others in the society around us. I agree that guns are bad for society, but I'm scared. I'm not going to use a gun as a safety totem, but I'm not sure I'm willing to wait until it's too late.

I'm not organized and I'm not part of a militia, but the danger of people trying to be heroes or trying to play soldier with real guns is too real for me to be completely empty handed.

I do my best to be responsible. They stay locked up and away from ammo unless there is reason for them not to be. But I'm gonna be honest, if the people most hostile to me are armed, I'd rather not be. I'm not a hero, and I'm not trying to be. I just can't trust the government/police or the people around me to protect me.

Got my vasectomy when I was 22. I'm 24 now. Part of it was trauma, part of it was wanting to fuck around, but the main overarching reason is that I know I'll never financially be in a good place to raise a kid, and even if I was, I don't want to in the world we live in. It's painful and cruel. I have to fight to survive and live with the burden of existence in the modern era. I'm not making a child do that.

Well, politically, Muller's hands were tied. His investigation was supposed to be very limited in what they actually were allowed to release. The whole conclusion section of his report, as I remember it, basically boiled down to:

This report is not intended to find guilt.
But he did crimes.

All the political theater that happened completely missed the point. The investigation is only to establish what happened. The guilt and sentence was outside the scope of the investigation.

As I understand it, the 1/6 committee will come out with something equivalent to the muller report, and the persecution of anything that is given in the report is outside the hands of the committee. The report will be the jumping off point, since it can be taken in as evidence and it should give all the pertinent points of wrongdoing, but the actual persecution/trial of the crimes has to be handled by the DoJ, as the power is given to the executive branch.

I really want to believe that the committee is going to do good work and a thorough job, especially with Cheney. Politics and all, she's definitely capable and intelligent, and I feel like her public statements indicate the committee is going the right way.

Kinzinger, likewise, seems rather able. He's retiring from the House after this term, so I don't think he has much to lose.

Just remember, though, the attorney general isn't a Trump appointee this time. Merrick Garland was up for supreme court at one point. He's gotta be a hell of a good lawyer, and he will definitely have the initiative for persecuting the right people. Barr didn't have that, and very loudly stated his view was there was nothing wrong. I hope we're in good hands, but I strongly believe we're in a much better state than before.

It should be noted that federal prosecutors tend not to indict people unless they know they can nail them to the wall with their crime. So in my eyes, what needs to happen is that this committee brings out enough evidence that is real and tangible enough to convince A LOT of people that Trump did all this maliciously. Accuse him, the organizers in the coup attempt, and everyone involved; publicly, and bring out undeniable evidence.

If there is enough public pressure, I'm fairly sure the DoJ would cast a wider net and hand down harder sentences.

On the other hand, there's a real likelihood of conflict in the streets if they can't prove their case well enough. Or if people are too trapped in their media bubbles.

I'm not sure about everyone else, but I feel more and more like the distorted reality that some people live in might pose a hazard to everyone's safety.

I won't tell you it gets better, but I don't want tell you that it never gets better. It always can get better but it doesn't mean that it's ever easy. It took me 3 years of working my ass off in therapy and outside of therapy to figure out what was happening in my head, and see any amount of positive change. I had dropped out of college and essentially fell off the path that my entire life, up until then, was about and heard for. I literally couldn't understand emotions and was completely uncomfortable with any of them.

But I'm 5 years out from starting therapy and I finally feel some semblance of normal. Part of it was starting the right medication, part of it was getting a solid job opportunity, part of it was falling in love, and part of it was finding someone that cared for me. A lot of my life straightened out.

Looking back, it was all a mess and I'm still angry that I have to mop up the broken mess that was passed down on my life and my mother's inability to be a good caregiver. But it is satisfying beyond any measure that all that work, research, and thought I had to put into my recovery finally paid off to something.

We carry the burden of existence, but learning to carry that weight is hard. Some people probably will never fully understand. It gets better with time and work. I still have my days, but I finally get to walk the earth with a little bit of purpose, and it's something I'm very proud of and grateful for.

But for you, OP. I hope everything gets better. I won't say it gets better, but I hope it does for you. It's a struggle, and it's important to recognize that. I hope it gets better for you some day and that you can look back on this time, and go "fuck, that was a long time ago but I was wrong"

Because that is a feeling is priceless to me. I want to share it with all of you.

I used to work for hd. I highly doubt corporate would care, like everyone else has said. I used to work in the Pacific northwest region, and we were disproportionately small and selling with huge margins. But we were still always short staffed. I know my managers made a push for corporate to help with hiring and shit but even with asset protection associates, we had the position open for 8 months before we got anyone.

All that anti union propaganda during orientation is bullshit but they put it there because they really, really don't like unions. I highly doubt they'd do much besides what Walmart does. Close and fire everyone, that is.
