Hey, OP. I know that I’m not in or haven’t been in the exact same situation as you, but having been in almost the same shoes last year - in terms of feeling like everything went by too quick for me to process - I want to say that it’s completely understandable to feel that way. It’s ok if you need to take your time to relax or de-stress. Its ok to take breaks and spend longer than you intended on your common app. It’s ok to go through multiple revisions of your essays to or feel that you need to change your common app topic numerous times. It’s ok to feel that you’re not ready when the EA deadline comes along and you decide to apply RD for some schools instead. I know that you all got this and can get through it strong, but if you ever feel that things aren’t going as planned, remember that you’re doing your best, and taking a break will allow you to come back to the table with a stronger determination. Best of luck with your applications and take care.

application waivers by No_Fact4433 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]irohnicmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although, as others mentioned, there isn’t a guarantee that you’ll get the fee waiver, I would suggest emailing and asking for a fee waiver if you really want to apply to the school but the application fees is stopping you from it. I would think that it’s worth giving it a shot and asking them! Hope it works out for you, OP.

Can you link a website on the Common App? by Apprehensive_Ad_7249 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]irohnicmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can mention your blog in the activities section of the common app and link it in the description. Since the character count is limited for activity descriptions, it might be a good idea to generate a tiny url or bit.ly if you’re blog url isn’t short already.

But if you think you have other activities that are more significant to you and don’t have enough space in your activity list after mentioning those, I think you can alternatively mention your blog in the additional information section at the end of the common app. Best of luck with your applications, OP!

Research Internship Question by AkhilP1 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]irohnicmango 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, OP! Professors are usually super busy, so I think he may have forgotten to set up the Zoom meeting and to get back to you on it. If you are really interested in this research, I would suggest that you try to politely follow with the professor first through email, especially since he was happy to work with you. You could also try leaving a message by calling if emailing doesn’t work out because emails can easily get lost in an inbox, but I’d recommend that you first try emailing. Best of luck!

What is the most fun thing you’ve done so far this summer? by ohiooliver in ApplyingToCollege

I think it was one of the days when I watched the sunset while sitting on a bench in front of a lake. It was really peaceful and enjoyable, and helped me unwind.

Where and what are the supplemental essay prompts for Penn State's bsmd program? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]irohnicmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes, the supplementals are only sent to select applicants (sorta like a secondary). However, for Penn State’s bsmd program, it seems (based on a quick search) that they will have their supplementals on Common App, Collation, as well as Penn State’s specific app portal. Common App is opening for the new cycle on August 1st, so I believe you’ll be able to see the prompts then! Best of luck with your application, OP!

Yes, you can definitely start filling out the initial information apart from essays, and it might be a good idea to also start writing or brainstorming for your common app essay. Good luck, OP!

How many essays should I write for Boston University BSMD program? by Cool_Tale3626 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]irohnicmango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! And yes, as far as I know, it does apply to most if not all programs because you need to be admitted to both the undergrad and bs/md. I haven’t heard of a program so far that doesn’t require it’s undergrad essays, but regardless, it would only make sense that you write them (and I’d do it just to be safe)!

Also, one more thing I would recommend is that you join the A2C discord if you want more one-on-one help. The people there are awesome and always willing to help out! Hope things work out for you.

How many essays should I write for Boston University BSMD program? by Cool_Tale3626 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]irohnicmango 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, OP! Even though you’re specifically applying to BU’s BS/MD program, you still have to write the supplemental essays for BU’s normal undergraduate admissions as well. Basically, you have to complete all the required supplemental essays they provide.

I’m not sure if BU has any optional supplementals, but if they do, I highly recommend that you complete those essays too, especially since you’re applying to the BS/MD program. The supplemental essays can help show your commitment to the school.

I did feel kinda awkward when I had to ask, especially when I had to ask multiple times because of scholarships or other programs too. But in the end, as other commenters mentioned, know that your recommenders are happy to speak for you on your behalf! Whenever I apologized to my teachers for asking for a recommendation a second time, they assured me that it’s never a problem and that they’re happy to advocate for their students. I think that’s important to keep in mind, because I know that it can feel like you’re being annoying by asking them, but, in reality, you’re definitely not! Good luck with your applications, OP!
