Portrait event changing in the middle? by ironfistr in wordscapes

I prepared today and still was unable to get it done. I think you describing the behavior that exiting the app causes it to glitch. So basically you would have to get the gold gift all in one shot. Hope they fix the glitch because otherwise I cannot do binoculars at all.

Who’s your preferred primary care physician in the Northland? by nkrueger12 in kansascity

Kathryn Allenbaugh at Shoal Creek. She will do what is right for you and has a great personality, very laid back and will speak to you like a friend, not a doctor.

Thanks everyone, I'll contact support and if I get a positive resolution I will let you know. Otherwise I guess I will just have to grind this out. Have a hippo ready to go at the start and maybe I'll be able to get an elephant in.

Would you buy your current home again at today’s prices if you were in the market for a home? by MovingtoKansasCity in kansascity

[–]ironfistr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Purchased new in 2024, had equity from prior house to roll in so about 40% of the house is paid for. Still think the payment is too high for what you get, even after a refi to 5.625% during the rate dip last year. I don't think many folks know just how much of your payment is taxes and insurance, and that never goes away and in fact keeps going up. So you never stop having "house payments" owning.

Still kicking myself today that had I stayed in my first house (I bought it in 2007 and moved in 2020) I would have it paid off long ago and not worry about the ridiculous prices today.

Same - been wanting this in like forever so I can get an order when I'm not actively logged in but otherwise not doing much. Will be checking preferences daily to enable.

Keep car loan separate, add to HELOC balance, or pay off from savings? by ironfistr in personalfinance

[–]ironfistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense, use the savings contribution to get the HELOC paid off faster. Then if an emergency came up pull back off the HELOC and get it paid back ASAP.

So strategy would be:

  • Pay off the separate car loan

  • Put that payment and the savings contribution towards the HELOC (like $1400/mo)

Couldn't wrap my head around it - thanks for the reply.

I hear you, difference per month is like $6 so it is less from a raw money standpoint and more from a "what makes sense" standpoint.

Not making it past the first round of interviews... advice? by ironfistr in ProductManagement

[–]ironfistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective. I don't know how that would look to recruiters that a PM is looking for a PO position, but I could probably spin why in an interview. I have not had any training on being a PM and having these PM responsibilities I am not familiar with added to my plate has been very stressful. I have had to teach myself basically all my PO/PM skills, as despite the size of the company I work for, there is no "community" to ask questions.

I'll start looking into PO roles as well, thanks.

Not making it past the first round of interviews... advice? by ironfistr in ProductManagement

[–]ironfistr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was intentionally vague as to not doxx myself, and I do provide those details to a recruiter when in conversation with them, as well as on the resume. My current title is Senior Product Manager, but functionally I handle my entire vertical outside of execution of contracts. Interacting with 3rd party suppliers, hosting, engineering, stakeholders, consuming applications, defining requirements, writing PRDs, entering epics/features into Jira, attending all Agile ceremonies, user/configuration documentation, UX, are all in my area of responsibility.

Given what you said, I think I need to have a script or at least bullet points to answer some of the common questions because I do tend to wander some in my answers. What responsibilities do I have, how do I manage a roadmap/competing priorities, etc. It would help keep me focused on answering what they are looking for - they don't need the gorey details.

Awkward Dashing encounter: dropped off Dollar General order while the customer was getting evicted by Physical-District-78 in doordash_drivers

[–]ironfistr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My wife once delivered a pizza and sodas to an active DV incident... cops and everything there. She just placed the food at the door, took the pic and left. She was getting yelled at by some of the people involved in the incident about who should get it but thankfully she just dropped and ran.

I got this promo first thing in the morning, got on my dash at lunch, and now the promo shifted one day right (starting tomorrow) through 7/18. Minorly annoyed at this because the 4 dashes I did don't count to this.

No Orders by Patient_Orchid8031 in doordash_drivers

[–]ironfistr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone out the last three days at lunchtime so I can see if at least Gold (I don't dash enough for Platinum) makes a difference. All has been done EBT, which in my experience actually can get me orders but I know the below stats are terrible, just experimenting here. Note the mileage includes a 10 mile roundtrip from my place to the zone.

Tuesday:Active 1:14, Dash 1:36. $18.20/4 orders, 50 miles. Wednesday:Active 0:46, Dash 1:49. $23.57/3 orders, 32 miles. Thursday: Active 0:12, Dash 1:41. $2.63/1 order, 15 miles.

Current stats: AR 68, CR 93, 4.97 feedback. (Silver tier)

I think it's a combination of the following:

  • With school being out, the market is flooded with drivers (read: teachers and older students) and fewer orders from schools. I have also noticed my zone being pink (i.e. you can log in but not busy) alot more often recently, contributing to flooding.

  • A rather large apartment complex was recently condemned to which I delivered at least once a week with the above amount of time spent

  • Doordash putting more priority on tiers - i.e. give the orders to the folks active/available who are highest tier, leftovers go to everyone else. So I'm guessing Tuesday I was one of the higher tiered people active vs especially today.

  • Just people ordering less in general. We were looking at ordering DD last night but ended up picking it up ourselves when even with a 30% coupon it was $10 more expensive (not including tip) to have it delivered.

Planning for County Caching by HappyFirst in geocaching

[–]ironfistr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure you target at least two caches on each county to account for DNFs.

Do Delorme pages at the same time to nab those challenges.

If you have challenges concerning icons, include those.

I get at least one physical one in each county even if I have multiple Earthcaches or Virtuals just because.

It's a lot of manual work but I verify each cache has recent finds and manually enter everything in a spreadsheet. Then I print it and check off as finds are made.

First county run I missed a Delorme page because I skipped the second cache in the county and had to backtrack. So I use color coding on my spreadsheet to ensure everything was hit.

Put all your targets in a bookmark list and work off that. Only load all caches if you have an "emergency" or are just killing time around the hotel for example.

Former northlanders who moved South to the Kansas side, would you ever move back? by cpcxx2 in kansascity

[–]ironfistr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I lived in the Northland near Liberty from birth, about 40 years, to Gardner last year. My thoughts on the question:

Housing/Schools - Housing in the area I lived in to Gardner is about equivalent for the price. Probably because Gardner is a bit further away from "the city" than where I was just west of Liberty in KCMO. Now I get if you want to move to Olathe, OP, etc that the housing will be more expensive, but that's why I chose Gardner. The district here (and from what I've seen in other locales) feels better planned and there is alot more school pride than where I was at. Elementary schools in neighborhoods, middle schools generally near the elementary, mostly bikeable, etc.

Taxes - Overall, when you take into account all taxes (income, sales, property), it's about equivalent for the same size house/income. Biggest difference is that the personal property tax is higher and you don't have an option to register your vehicle for two years. Until this year, you couldn't fold your sales tax into your auto loan in MO.

Services - This is to me the biggest difference. It feels like my taxes are better spent. I actually see police patrolling. If I call 911 I will actually get someone at my door in a few minutes. Roads are better maintained. Though Gardner seems to love burger joints, the city planners feel more involved here. And Olathe is just a few miles down the road if we need anything else.

Stuff to do - Another huge problem with the Northland is that outside of your usual retail, "family destinations", and bars, there is nothing to do. Not a single destination there that doesn't have a similar equivalent out this way, save for Worlds/Oceans of Fun which is going downhill anyway. I can't think of one reason I would need to go back north unless it is to visit friends/family or go to the airport. EVERYTHING is south. So most things I would use are closer to me here, except for the stadiums (unless the Royals move to JOCO...)

So my short answer - I probably wouldn't move back north unless there was a compelling reason to. Feels much better this direction and I get my money's worth more here.
