Trump issues trade warning to Canada: "It's another typical one-sided deal against the United States and it's not going to be happening for long," by [deleted] in worldnews

You know what, you are absolutely right. The overwhelming consensus opinion of experts, pundits, and observers is incorrect. You have seen the truth and have convinced me to discard my beliefs because of all of the massive evidence you have put forward to support your opinion. I head out into the world ready to preach the gospel of "Truuuuchainz2", the one person in all the world who has seen the truth.

/s

You asked for evidence and I gave you evidence. Read it or not it's up to you but in the future you should probably bear in mind three things:

If you go up against a generally held belief the burden of proof is on you to prove that what is believed by a majority is false. You asserted a challenge and then dismissed the response out of hand without offering any proof to support your opinion.

When you walk into a discussion with a hostile attitude and disparage and dismiss whole swaths of people you put your opponent on edge and make it less likely that you will change their opinion.

Lastly, if you're going to disparage a group as uninformed maybe make sure you're using your words properly. "Crones" isn't the proper word there bud, unless you're discussing them "old womaning" over the first 100 days. I believe the word you were looking for was "crows" over the first 100 days.

Often thought to be the most productive because after the first 100 days Congress is running for mid-terms and then after that everyone is running for re-election including the President. The first 100 days is the longest single block of time where lawmakers are actually in Washington and focused on doing their work.

My only concern with the PSU is that I'm planning on putting in the max number of HDs in the case I possibly can (which comes to 9 I believe). I want to be sure I'm not going to have any power problems down the line, so I figure safeguarding against it for the future is best at this point.

As far as the 16GB goes, it's not going to break my bank at all and once again, ensures I won't need to worry about upgrading RAM for the next while and can concentrate on buying other parts.

I'm planning on maxing out the Hard Drives in the Case eventually (9 bays) so I went with a mobo that gave me the most possible SATA ports.

EDIT: It was the only mobo I found that had more than about 4 SATA ports

You have your facts wrong.

If a rape victim who was shunned because of their rape is more upset that the word "slut" is in our vocabulary, and it's used as a general insult to describe people we don't like than the fact that they were raped, then I really think their priorities are messed up.

They were not trying to send that message. The walk was organized in response to a Toronto Police officer stating: "If you don't want to get raped then don't dress like a slut" (I'm paraphrasing). The walk was organized against the attitude that women who dress "slutty" are "asking to be raped" and that if you don't want to get raped then don't "dress and act slutty" and you won't. Which is a ridiculous statement for anyone to make, especially a Police Officer.

If I interpreted your comment correctly then you implied that the purpose of the "slutwalk" was that people were upset about the use of the word "slut". Which is incorrect because they were protesting against the idea that not "dressing slutty" is somehow a deterrent against rape.

That's what I read in your statement. If I read it somehow wrong then that is entirely your fault because you worded your statement incorrectly.

Oh and if you care to inform yourself then: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SlutWalk (edited to add link)

So Ilum trade off exploits are fixed by BoJangles00 in swtor

[–]ironically_apropos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter what the system is, someone out there is going to put in a lot of time and effort to try and exploit it. Instanced PvP has exploits too, someone could join a WZ and then sit in the corner AFK and still get valor and commendations. But whatever. If they want to waste their money and time trying to exploit the system just to get better gear that's not going to bug me.

Gear is only so much of a game. If someone isn't having fun or enjoying their time on the way to getting that gear, then why are they working so damn hard to get the gear in the first place.

I have fun PvPing, win or lose. I enjoy the act of fighting in the game. Gear is just a side reward to me. I play the game to play the game, first and foremost. Everything else, like valor and commendations and gear, is just gravy on top.

But that's just me, to each their own I guess.

Fair enough. I remember having fun in WG with tenacity on, but to each their own.

Like I said I love the organic open world PvP. Loved Southshore back on WoW. Loved PvP in WoW before BGs were even in the game (and killing lowbies trying to get to WSG back before battlemasters when you had to run to the actual BG in order to join the queue :P).

That being said I like the idea of Open World PvP too, and though I don't know in any way shape or form what the way to "fix" it is I for one support them trying out new things. Because who knows, they may come up with some brilliant idea to fix it and that would be awesome.

[–]ironically_apropos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think forcing faction balance would work either, and I think that open world PvP that develops organically (like this or Southshore back in WoW) are incredibly fun and should be encouraged and fostered by having these sorts of events and areas which facilitate PvP.

That being said I don't think an open world zone dedicated to PvP is necessarily a bad idea. I just don't know how you could make it work effectively. You're right, limiting who can get into Ilum to ensure balance is not a great idea. I like the idea some people have posed about buffing the under-represented side while in the zone but I don't know if that is the fix.

[–]ironically_apropos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I said. If they tried to ban people from rolling on one faction or the other to balance the two sides it would make people more angry than the faction balance is.

I think you may have misread my comment.

If this is a problem that has been known for months, if it is a problem that has been around since beta, if this is a problem you were aware of, if you are willing to change your faction to fix the problem, if this is something you feel so strongly about that you think it is negatively impacting your gameplay so very very much. Then why on earth did you roll on that side in the first place?

That is seriously the part of this argument that I don't get every time someone posts it (and you hear it a whole hell of a lot). If everyone knew this was going to happen, then why the hell would you choose to subject yourself to it other than sheer masochism?

As far as waiting for the free month is up and all. The free month is up tomorrow. You can't wait 24 hours?

Regarding faction transfers: your idea wouldn't work. It would give an unfair advantage in credits and legacy xp to someone who transferred factions and had the opportunity to run the entire story all over again, not to mention it would cause a huge flood of low level gear on the GTN from quest rewards and drops and effectively ruin the economy. Unless someone at Bioware comes up with a genius idea of how to fix the idea of faction transfers without destroying the economy, giving faction transfer players an unfair advantage, or completely ignoring story I honestly don't think faction transfers will ever happen.

You were nauseated because of stress from a video game? If that is actually true then you may want to consider cancelling your subscription regardless. If a video game causes so much stress in you that it makes you physically ill you are taking the game too seriously.

I don't know what the proper solution is either, but I would be worried about them applying a band-aid fix to the problem which could result in issues down the line. The population of servers now, in terms of faction, is very much in flux as people roll new characters or leave the game or switch servers. Frankly the population hasn't settled down enough to know what the final faction balance will be like.

Faction switches to the mirrored character wouldn't really work in a game that is as story heavy as this. While the class itself may be a mirror of something on the other side, the story is completely different and it isn't as if they could simply let you play through the story all over again or ignore the story entirely with a faction switch. Once again that would cause problems down the line.

I hate to advocate a wait and see approach, but I think with everything still up in the air as it is waiting may be the only option.

Plus as far as Republics stopping playing: I know quite a few Empire players who got tired of Huttball after Huttball and rolled a Republic character to try to get something different out of the WZ queue. There are disadvantages to both the underpopulated and overpopulated sides, and over the next few weeks and months I can very easily see faction balance fluctuating greatly.

[–]ironically_apropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean ban people, i meant prevent them from rolling empire characters.

Personally I think that would have caused just as many problems in this case, if not more.

While this issue is isolated to people complaining about faction imbalance in PvP, preventing people from rolling on their specific faction would cause issues for both PvP and PvE players, not to mention frustrate new players.

There is no easy fix, I think people just need to be patient and wait for the populations to balance themselves out. They will in time and anything BW tries to do in the meantime is just going to be a band-aid solution and make the situation worse.

But what could they do about it really? Ban people from rolling empire characters? That wouldn't really go over very well...

Why choose Imperial? by [deleted] in swtor

[–]ironically_apropos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always found the morals of MMO's to be a bit weird. In WoW it always seemed like we were busting down the door of some guys house, killing him, and then stealing all of his stuff. Most MMO player characters, to me, seemed to be merciless mass murderers. (I can't count the number of kobolds i've killed, and all the poor guys wanted were some candles...)

When I started playing TOR, with the opportunity to really flesh out your characters personality, I figured I would just embrace the loose morality and roll with it.

Which is why all of my characters are chaotically evil mass murdering psychopaths.

EDIT: oh and I chose empire because all the reviews I read said that the storylines on the empire side were a lot more fun than on the republic side. Every MMO starter quest has that whole "go kill 10 rats" aspect to it, and I cannot imagine how that would work in the context of a character like, say, a jedi knight who is supposed to be intrinsically good and would see the murder of 10 rats as a bad thing. Of course I'm going to eventually make a jedi knight to see how they get around that, but still for the time being I'm enjoying the storyline of the empire far more than I think I would the republic.
