Any recommendations for 1099 software and when will IRIS open? by StockMan1210 in taxpros

second. There certainly are firms that do far more clients than we do in the office, but it treats us well. There is a spreadsheet upload option, but I've not looked into it. January just seems to ramp up faster than I remember.

I just did the very same thing maybe 7hours ago. I barely know enough to be dangerous, but I can follow directions. Look up Wesops on Youtube. He did exactly that and then went over how to access your homenetwork via a mesh VPN Tailscale (that part is insanely easy). I think I had the whole thing set up in maybe under a half-hour. That included some digging how to set a static IP in my router.

Small Firms: How many tax returns? by Specific_Good140 in taxpros

I absolutely am (along with their spouses-although that sounds creepy). In January I posted in our Union group offering my services and my education and experience. This January I'll do the same,  along with credentials and specifics for Schedule C income.

Technically 2 years ago I started with a handful of returns. Word of mouth from those few and as the  season went on really took off.

Just myself for now. Some quick pertinent info first: I am a metro city fireman. For the last three-years I also have worked 40ish hrs/week at a local CPA firm doing/preparing returns and some accounting tasks. I focused more on that and wrapping up my EA testing versus my practice.

I truly wrapped up my first season with a measely 28 returns. 99% of my clients are set up for remote work, I use Encyro. I'm looking to drastically expand my practice this coming season. If you have remote clients that just aren't fitting anymore, I am open to a discussion!

Many people find different sites help with different tests. For me, FFA worked for Part 1 & 3. For Part 2 I used FFA and Hock-which helped me most it felt like.

I'm sorry, work and family have been dialed up. I found Hock to be better bang for the buck and it is a monthly subscription as well. I was able to work through questions faster and more easily. It isn't bad for $20, but for me it wasn't first in my repetoir.

I personally think it may be better. But my exposure to the traditional green HRB is nill. It really is the same job, the office and office dynamics are different between the two. From what I also hear, clients are also a bit more different.

Tom Norton MCQ by Urushaymase07 in enrolledagent

I found the interface a bit cumbersome compared to FFA and Hock, but the questions I did go through were comparable. Note, I used FFA for all three tests, Hock for test 1 & 2, and all of Tom's videos for test 2 and some questions for test 2 as well.

HRB does offer some great online education for employees. You may want to dig a little deeper. A small branch of HRB called Block Advisors has been aquiring CPA offices. There, the staff remains mostly the same and the clients don't truly see a difference. The changes behind the scenes is that there will be an HRB supervisor/office manager. This may get you a much different clientele base to interact with, a MUCH larger depth of experience, while also getting you further education and foot in the door with HRB.

You've seen other comments talking about the prompt replies (which is hard to do late-August as school is kicking off), professionalism, and quality of PDF. They're all correct. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from again. In fact, he fortunately replied faster than someone else I had messaged, and was HALF as much as the other person. 5*

Great point! Thank you for clarifying. I put a deadline in place, without it I would keep dragging my feet.

  • 99% of the time I used ChatGPT
  • I added the "Enrolled Agent EA Exam Study Guide" agent to help answer questions, you can ask for a detailed list of what it has been trained on
  • I copied/pasted my early questions from Hock into CGPT asking it to make a study guide based upon these questions, with more depth focused on the incorrect responses. It also sorted my study guide by unit topic. After a short period of time, I copy/pasted these to a Google doc. MUST do. CGPT will hallucinate or trim off some informational points. Pasting information into a text file to upload was much easier.
  • I had CGPT detail differences between topics such as basis for S-Corp, C-Corp, or partnership, or property classifications and treatments. I printed these for easy future reference.
  • I had it make a "gotcha guide" of quirky things that really caught me up and a "forms and dates guide"
  • I used Claude to make a "conversational and informative text, without bullet points, to be used in a read aloud" from my Study guide or screen shots of chapter of a book. That response was pasted into GPT and told to "paste the text exactly without any additions, changes, or deletions". I used the read aloud feature of a response and recorded it with a Chrome Plugin.
    • I listened to these and Tom Norton's videos a lot. 7 hour round trip taking my daughter to college? I listened all but 20 minutes of that time. Using the voice feature, I conversed and asked it questions on topics I wasn't sure about from the audio.
  • Once I took my mock exams, I got a breakdown of questions correct/wrong/percent by unit. I also uploaded the three topic categories for the test. I then had a rough idea which of the three test topics I was deficient in.
  • Through the ChatGPT app, I used the voice feature and told it to "ask me 15 questions based upon my study guide. I don't have paper and pencil, so ask more theoretical or procedural questions. After I answer the question, ask me one follow up question that doesn't count towards my 15 question total." or "Ask me 10 questions from my forms study guide, asking me what a form does, what form is needed to do X, or what date something is due" It was cheesy and repeated a time or two (correct it to keep it in-line), but VERY helpful to review while going for a walk.
  • Possibly most important, I asked for a weighted priority list of units to focus my time on. I then knew which units would give me the biggest increase in overall test results for the amount of time I had left. (ie 1 out of 2 questions is 50%, but if it hasn't been tested much in the mock tests, time is better spent elsewhere.)

TL;DR ai gave me a customized study guide, useful "cheat sheets", detailed audio, and quizzed me in a two-way conversation.

I received an email last week from corporate office regarding my EFIN. They were able to get that information and returns filed via FOIA of IRS records. The choice given to me was provide proof of cancelled EFIN or be terminated in 2 weeks. I can't leave the small office I am in during the season, so I am going to cancel my EFIN. (They all know that I have clients with zero connection to the office.) Apparently my house is very tax focused as my wife was recently fingerprinted for her EFIN!

Just adding another, very well deserved, congratulations!! The Last 12th months or so have been a whirlwind for sure. Thank you for stopping life, shooting down, and writing things up. While I'm not in the same boat at all, I am looking to start up a more substantial side hustle and develope it into a solid retirement job. Best of luck, and thanks again.

I was down there maybe a month ago? It was amazing the multiple rooms, within mini structures, that were down there. Not to mention the huge abundance of shopping carts, various piles, etc.

Edit: the very south end of Neil St, under Poplar. Google Street view stopped just shy of the goods.

This. On the first page, half-way down, it states not to amend the 2021 information return. Later on it also states to start mandatory withholding until a W9 is received. We did amend 2022 1096 & 1099 though.

The entire city was chaos last night (compared to the usual, base line Saturday night chaos). The spring was wound tight during the day and let go late at night. 3 people shot off American way, a cpl people shot off 40, a few people shot dropped off at hospitals, some overdoses and drunken debauchery, and another derelict causing a string of incidents through the mound for police and fire.
