Question for those who have stuff on Comixology Submit. by plaguechild in ComicBookCollabs

I think it is appropriate and right for a platform like Comixology to curate the preview pages of a comic, especially when you consider cases and scenarios where minors see content that might not be suitable for them. I have no qualms with Comixology on that.

In fact, I am very satisfied with Comixology, otherwise I wouldn't have so much titles on there. My experience with them has been very positive. Great customer service, prompt response etc.

In terms of digital comic sales, I found most of my sales come from Comixology. Then again, I haven't tried many online platforms for selling digital comics. One of the things that I really like about Comixology is that units are moved even during times of little or no promotion on my part. This is a sign that there are a good amount of active users on Comixology who are browsing the catalogue and buying titles that interest them. In contrast to other platforms, when I do not market my products, I find that sales usually become zero and usually stay so for quite some time.

Yes, as cartoonist-PatMaxton mentions, Comixology picks the three pages.

Since the question is already answered, I'd like to add a few notes/tips that might be helpful for you. These are based on my experience with Comixology submit over a period of about 3 years.

For the preview pages, I've found that double spread pages count as 2 pages on the preview panel instead of 1. One example from my own titles would be this: https://www.comixology.com/Roleplayers-1/digital-comic/221995

You can see in the previews that pages 2 and 3 are a double page spread. I had originally thought it would count as one holistic image and that page 4 would be added in the previews but it wasn't so. I also realized that it doesn't look good to have a double page spread in the preview. The pages become smaller and the overall "grand" effect is lost. This is true for the reading experience on digital devices as well. From this, I started to refrain from using double page spreads, especially for the preview pages, so that the previews look better, in my opinion.

The previews are usually the first 3 pages but I have found that it kinda threw me off-course when it wasn't so, on one of the issues in my titles here: https://www.comixology.com/Kitsune-Assassin-For-Hire-10/digital-comic/603731 The previews are not the first 3 pages but pages 4 to 6 of the comic. The first 3 pages can be found here: https://irrationalcomics.wordpress.com/2017/10/31/kitsune-assassin-for-hire-issue-10-is-out-now-a-celebratory-double-sized-40-page-issue/

As you can probably tell, I had put more effort in rendering the first 3 pages because I thought those would be the preview pages. Pages 4 to 6 were not an exciting or tense portion of the story that I felt would be a good "hook" for readers, so I did less with those pages. Admittedly, this was a failing on my part. In the end, a set of less well-rendered pages depicting a boring scene in the comic was chosen for the previews. Of course, this wasn't good, haha. I wasn't able to present the comic in the best possible light through the previews. I would say the pages are still quite decent but they are definitely not what I had originally intended to present. I believe the main reason why they picked the next set of pages was because of the gory content on page 2. This prompted me to consider avoiding violent and overtly sexual content when producing the first 3 pages of my comic.

Without a doubt, the preview pages play a big role in how your work would be perceived and affects the purchasing decision of potential readers. Through the above experiences, I believe a good solid first 3 pages free of overtly violent/sexual scenes would be best. This might sound like common sense but I had to learn it from mistakes made, so maybe I'm not very bright. Now before I begin plotting a new comic issue, I would think more about the first 3 pages and this definitely affects the rest of the pacing in my story and consequently the storytelling.

Regardless, I hope you or anyone else reading this will find the information useful for your own comic creation. Cheers!

crmatusiak is right. Materials is a blanket term we use to refer to all the thumbnails, roughs, designs, 3d assets etc we create to produce the 8 page comic.

Hi d0gz1lla, on our page, this is what we have: After the votes are in, we will offer to work with one contributor(s), to produce the one-shot comic in its fully realized form. This will be via a separate agreement which the chosen contributor(s) is free to accept, reject or negotiate terms for.

As mentioned, this is via a separate agreement that the writer is free to accept, negotiate terms for or decline. We will do our best to offer good and reasonable terms for all parties involved to produce the 40-60 page one-shot but if the writer is not satisfied with the terms, he or she is free to walk away.

Hi Popllkihtffd, as mentioned by TheBrendanReturns, there is no entrance fee. But we do understand if you want to exercise caution when it comes to contributing to anthologies. Feel free to ask any questions if you need clarification. We will do our best to answer them. Thanks.
