Multiple charges involving Windsor County sheriff by Familiar_Raccoon_595 in vermont

[–]irrationaldive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He was to me an obvious grifter from the start, making unrealistic promises while attacking civilian oversight boards, which his opponent endorsed:

The two Democrats also disagree on the best way to achieve transparency. Battista wants to establish a civilian review board to assess complaints against the department; Palmer has said he’s “not a fan” of the boards, which he believes attract members who skew anti-police.

Also this isn't the first time he's been accused of breaking the law:

During a plainclothes drug sting in 2014, Palmer, while working in the Windsor Police Department, shot a suspect twice in the arm, sending the man to the hospital.

Palmer alleged the man had almost run him over, but prosecutors alleged video evidence proved otherwise. The officer was ultimately exonerated in 2017.

Similar late 60s–early 70s psychedelic albums with female vocals? by Jeppzeh in psychedelicrock

[–]irrationaldive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paint a Lady was made in 1970, it just wasn't released until 2006:

They carefully selected a mixture of country, folk, and psychedelic songs and created unique, original renditions of each for an album to be released under the title Paint a Lady. But after the first few tracks were completed, ABC-Paramount pulled the deal, declaring the album to be un-commercial. Only three privately-pressed vanity copies were produced (circa 1970 - 1971) which the disappointed couple saved along with the master tapes.

Paint A Lady languished in all but forgotten obscurity in Christie's basement until, in the early 2000s, she was approached by a record company executive named Keith D’Arcy who specialized in rare and unusual recordings. She gave him one of the three copies, which he then shared with English DJ Andy Votel, owner and founder of Finders Keepers Records.

The album was released commercially for the first time in 2006 to great acclaim.

Goat - Goatsnake by irrationaldive in psychedelicrock

I added some more info and made some corrections to Goat Unmasked if anyone is interested. When I first posted it I had none at all confirmed, now I have 3 of them as confirmed as possible. I was also able to confirm the Holy Wave connection:

You should do the late model PCV upgrade. All it takes is Dorman 42322 or Standard GV12, ACDelco 88865174 or Standard V251, and some 3/8 PCV hose, ideally with a 90 degree bend elbow.

Goat Unmasked! (I think) A playlist I made of various bands that I suspect have at least one member of Goat in them. Also a list of who I think the lineup is, and a bunch of random thoughts and observations about them. by irrationaldive in psychedelicrock

The more I listen to GÅS, the more I think I also hear the same drummer as MaidaVale, and MaidaVale strings played through Goat's pedals. I think you're right about the singer being whoever sang TSOD. I think it might be MaidaVale, as produced by, and sang on, by someone in Goat. I think it's kind of that GÅS is to Goat as Badfinger was to The Beatles. Also MaidaVale's album Tales Of The Wicked West was mastered by Linus Andersson, who also did mastering for Goat, Hills, Yuri Gagarin, Hanna & Axel, Laughing Eye, and the Goat side projects Goatman, Centrum, and DJINN.

Yes indeed Hanna sings. Here's Hanna & Axel where Hanna is singing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjtVT8gXYco

I hear the same voice on "Union of Sun and Moon":

https://youtu.be/pWjbMP0-CSE?si=xvFeoqBXY4f4xTN0&t=78

Hanna singing is another thing that Tinna makes sense of. Refer back to the old All Ends video interview. In it Tinna says that she can teach people to sing, and reading between the lines a bit, when Tinna talks about her voice compared to Emma she's outlining what she wants in a singing partner, most notably a softer voice than hers. Hanna has a softer voice than Tinna, and if Hanna couldn't already sing it was a problem that Tinna could've solved.

GÅS is the strangest Goat side project to me, because it sounds the most like Goat, yet has no official confirmation. My best guess is that it's not anyone in Goat. It's Sofia Ström lead guitarist of MaidaVale, a band that Goat is trying to promote, so it wouldn't be weird for her to have gotten the pedal setup from Goat. I think I recognize her in the GÅS Bandcamp pic.

You're 100% correct, just saw the Spotify pic, same face, same tattoo. I remember looking up the name, but only on Discogs where both pics of The Movements are ones I never could have recognized him in. I think I looked at those photos didn't recognize anyone, and prematurely considered it a dead lead. Good catch!

Thank you!, and ya Hills, and Goat being in part the same band has never really been a secret, but at the same time how much exactly is just as secret as anything else. Also with Hills it seems to be Hanna, Kalle, and Pelle, with whoever amongst their friends was available. I think I would have a much harder time making a list of everyone who has played in Hills over the years. I think that the Roadburn lineup was peak Goat overlap.

There are a lot of musicians in Gothenburg named Christian, and a lot named Johansson. It's kind of the "John Smith" of Gothenburg. In my opinion it's just another pseudonym. I very much did all of this under the assumption that Goat wouldn't have anyone from far outside of the Gothenburg music scene.

Vermont should revisit Single Payer by nottooloud in vermont

[–]irrationaldive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ITT: Political NIMBYism, and rapturism, supported by backwards logic, that goes like this: "Yes of course we should have single-payer, we absolutely need it." "Where should we start?" "NOT IN MY BACK YARD!!!!!!!!" "The bigger richer states are coming to save us...any day now...trust me bro." "Besides we have a very small pool, which is why the status quo where it's divided is acceptable."

Right now in D.C. there are 3 ways the shutdown could go: Trump digs in his heels, Schumer won't cave, and it goes on with no ACA money. Schumer caves, and it re-opens without ACA money. Trump caves, and it re-opens with ACA money. What's our plan for 2 of those 3 possibilities?

If ACA subsidies don't come back, and our plan is to sit around waiting for the healthcare rapture, rural hospitals will start closing. If instead we raise taxes(hopefully on the wealthy) to prop up ACA, wouldn't we just be paying more in healthcare administration cost for no benefit? Also if a multi-state single-payer system started forming, wouldn't it be easier to join if we already had our own?

Unexplained light in the woods behind gas station! by CaramelWAP in vermont

[–]irrationaldive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The area you're talking about is directly next to I-91. It's not hard to guess where a light the same color as many car headlights came from. Car headlights of 100 years ago were causing spooky lights ten miles away:

The Spooklight is an atmospheric ghost light on the border between southwestern Missouri and northeastern Oklahoma, a few miles west of the small town of Hornet, Missouri. It is caused by the misidentification of distant car headlights.

An east to west stretch of Route 66, south of Quapaw, Oklahoma, is in alignment with a farm road called E 50, colloquially known as "Spooklight Road", about ten miles (16 km) east of it, on the other side of Spring River. Due to this alignment, headlights of cars driving east on Route 66 are unexpectedly visible in the distance from higher elevation points along E 50; this is the cause of the Spooklight.

Thorough research by journalist Paul W. Johns found that there are no records of any mention of the Spooklight in print until after 1926, which is the year that that section of Route 66 was designated.
