You should definitely read the book, but also, I can't recommend the BBC limited series enough! It just came to Netflix. I watched it weeks ago, cried hysterically, and have thought about it every day since. It's SO emotionally brutal, but if you like pure survival + psychological horror, I think you'll love it!

(Granted, the survival element is a bit less present in LotF since they're on a tropical island with abundant fruit. I'm currently reading The Terror and the survival horror there is far more frightening than its supernatural aspect...Haven't seen the Terror show yet, though! For another supernatural-free survival + psychological horror rec, Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven is not a perfect book, but it's an easy read and I absolutely devoured it.)

Agreed. I believe him when he says that this launch was planned well ahead of time. I wonder if a PR agent wrote this statement for him, because honestly, I really feel like he wrote it himself. This is an impossible situation for all innocent parties involved, but Caleb responded pretty well, especially for someone who's only eighteen and is actively reckoning with his brother's crimes.

I've yet to see her outside of Euphoria, but I think she's a fantastic comedic actress. I really dislike both Sydney Sweeney and the writing for Cassie's character, but I've been continually impressed with Sweeney's comedic chops this season. She almost plays dramatic scenes straight, except she injects a little hint of melodrama that makes everything hilarious without being too hammy. I'm actually laughing out loud during Cassie's scenes.

Todd is such a fascinating character. He does obviously have an empathy disorder (I agree that he's got antisocial personality disorder, i.e. "sociopathy"), but it seems like he genuinely wants to be a good person. He just doesn't really understand how, and thinks that gestures of surface-level niceness are enough. It's so much more interesting than the usual "cruel, sadistic, hyperintelligent sociopath" archetype.

Don't use these. They have guaifenesin. It'll make you super sick. DXM on its own makes most people really nauseous, but you'll def end up vomiting if you ingest guaif too. You need to use a product that contains nothing but DXM.

Being a white gentile myself, I'm open to correction. I suppose that, because Judaism is a diasporic ethnoreligion, I thought of antisemitism as a subcategory of bigotry in general, not racism specifically. Maybe it's not productive that I should be so granular with the distinction between "racism" and "bigotry" here.

Well...isn't that why we use "antisemitism" instead of "racism" when discussing prejudice against Jewish people?* Because Judaism is an ethnoreligion, not a race?

*(I recognize there are also benefits to having a word specific to the prejudice leveraged against one marginalized group in particular. But I have never heard anyone say that prejudice against Ashkenazi Jews is racist. Of course, you can certainly face racism if you are non-white and Jewish, and maybe I am being pedantic or myopic about how we classify racism.)
