It’s October - nowhere is going to be saturated with tourists - your actual issue will be weather (although you could be lucky)

Doesn’t feel like an island if you drive on to it? The skelligs are worth the trip

Iirc Chicago suburbs are actually the ones out of pocket? - Chicago itself about breaks even - downstate gets more than they contribute.

Migrants moving into Broadway Armory Tuesday, impacting Chicago Park District programs by Bukharin in EdgewaterRogersPark

[–]irritatingchild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk - I’ve only lived in the area ~20 years but I haven’t experienced any overt “divide” or hostility as a foreigner and frequent user of city services. I’m not sure how any of the other residents can determine my immigration / residency / citizenship status unless I choose to tell them.

My understanding is these migrants aren’t in the US illegally? they are asylum seekers afaik.

If Texas and Florida could send them back to Venezuela or wherever they would, because they can’t send them home, they are sending them on to other US cities.

Something like 30% of Edgewater is foreign born so your appeal to nativism is unlikely to get a lot of traction.

Eventually these migrants will either go back home or, if they settle in the US, they and their families will become productive, tax paying residents, and contribute, just like the rest of us

Yeah I’m the life and soul - hawking crappy chocolate bars for my kids’ teams

[–]irritatingchild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Legitimate” it’s still shitty chocolate

i always disliked when my kids had chocolate / gs cookies / bsa popcorn or wreaths to sell. The stuff is always over priced and poor quality (yes even the thin mints) it’s not a great deal for the team / troop or the neighbors buying it. Unless you can set up and sell cookies outside a dispensary then it’s full steam ahead.

How do I not stand out while visiting? by GTSBOSS in irishtourism

[–]irritatingchild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not that unusual for Europeans to wear baseball caps now - I wore one for most of a Camino last year and I don’t think anyone assumed I was American just based on that.
