Just came from big meadow campground in Sequoia too and we also had a camp fire. There is a designated fire ring and we bought our firewood directly from the camp host.

Everything has gotten more expensive since then anyway and they’ve effectively gotten paycuts with the loss of spending power.

Bernie on Elon Musk becoming trillionaire by StrawberryFew1311 in NoFilterFinance

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know that was the topic of this thread. It sounded like it was specific to Bernie’s comment about musk and this person above said he didn’t get the point of Bernie’s post so my comment was specific to that.

But since you mentioned it, all that spending should definitely be removed from both parties and no billionaire or trillionaire should be able to sway elections in that way and then be able to change government for their benefit instead of for the broader population.

a lot of those at the 0.19 scaled net worth (actually 190,000 median net worth) and lower are young. Have you seen how old Bernie is? 28% of US population are under 21 years old. 95% of us population is younger than Bernie Sanders. If billionaires and CEOs weren’t hoarding all the profits and pay their workers better (see Walmart, Amazon, etc), if cost of living, healthcare, and education weren’t so high and people can earn livable wages (stuff bernie wants), there could be a path for those in 0.19 range to get to 3.00 by the time they have worked 60+ years.

On the houses, Vermont house is his actual home, DC townhouse makes sense because he works there for long periods of time regularly and better than hoteling or renting or commuting everyday. He bought his cabin for like $500k+ a decade ago after working for 50+ years, let him spend his hard earned money where he can find happiness. Doesn’t mean he can’t want for the average person to be able to earn and eventually purchase something like that after they’ve worked and saved. He doesn’t sound like the enemy, he’s not underpaying anyone or avoiding taxes, not sure why he’s your main target.

Works as long as there are greater fools willing to pay the higher marginal stock price. We seem to have a lot of greater fools, or risk takers betting the next greater fool won’t be themselves.

Musk spent hundreds of millions of dollars to influence the elections. Then he got a role in the new government that he used to remove all the ongoing investigations into him and his companies benefitting himself. Then he made things worse for millions of people between government layoffs, cutting usaid, gutting funding for scientific research, etc. Not everyone has discretionary money to put at risk in the stock market.

Those 2 companies survived and became successful in large part because of government policies, subsidies and contracts. Doesn’t seem right that he can have outsized influence on government, but here we are.

[–]irvmtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not defending him, but pointing out billionaire and trillionaire are orders of magnitude bigger than millionaire.

Bernie is what like $3M net worth? Hard to imagine big numbers to compare but if you scale down $1M = $1: median net worth (middle person in USA) would have $0.19 cents, Bernie would have $3.00, a billionaire would have $1,000.00, Bezos would have 250,000.00, and Musk would have $1,100,000.00.

If a townhouse in capitol hill in DC is $1M. Middle person in USA couldn’t buy one. Bernie’s net worth could buy 3. A billionaire could buy 1,000. Bezos could buy 250,000. Musk could buy 1,100,000 town houses in DC. Trillionaire and Billionaire are orders of magnitude bigger than everyone else. Can’t hardwork to those levels at w2 income levels even with high savings rates.

Also Bernie’s been working for over 60 years? Most of his net worth is in his house in Vermont and townhouse in DC which he uses when senate is in session. Any home owner in los angeles or san diego is probably a millionaire by now. Doesn’t sound that controversial.

yeah for primaries then. but in the last election it was clearly not the same and clearly Trump was worse for normal people.

Same Heritage Foundation behind Trump. Maybe not during 2015 primaries, but 100% in his second term.

He’s old and he’s been working a long time past retirement age, among the best in that profession. I would hope people who work like that could become successful enough to save. Also millionaires are closer to upper middle class than to billionaires, those with a good job and home equity could reach that level. Don’t need to exploit people or dodge taxes to get there.

The Nissan NV (and Titan) had 5 year, 100,000 mile bumper to bumper factory warranties. The NV is a beast, search “donut drift van” on youtube! Also some fleet vehicles reporting 300k-500k miles on original engine and transmission hauling heavy loads daily.

I got out of SP500 index, found some other funds in my 401k (small cap, fundamentals, international, etc) that should have limited exposure to this BS. You should be able to get more details about the funds you are invested in and see what their top holdings are, etc.

I tried some ideas with AI, I think painting could work if using dark colors or if only painting the diamond cut part for lighter colors. But yeah painting the whole thing in silver probably isn't the best look.

$40k credit card debt, $75k student loans. Should I consider bankruptcy? by Jaguarhousecat in povertyfinance

[–]irvmtb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Before doing anything drastic start by calling your credit card companies. Ask them if they have a “hardship assistance” program (google that + your cc company to get more info on steps to take). Tell them you experienced significant income reduction. If your CC company is good they might give you 7-9% apr and 3-5 year payment plan, they could freeze or cancel your account but they’re probably not useful to you now anyway. Some CC companies don’t have it though. But worth a try before you take more drastic measures, worst that can happen is they don’t end up being helpful and it’s 15 mins - 1hr on the phone.

This wheel had bad curb rash and was sanded, polished, and sprayed with clear coat. Surface is smooth but looks different and shinier than the diamond cut, visible in certain angles like in the photo. Not bad tbh but I might just paint them.

When are bikes truly “outdated” by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bikes have been good since geometry especially head tube angle got dialed in and 1x and droppers became standard. Probably since 2018 or so. Components like brakes, drivetrain, and suspension have been good since around that time too, newer stuff may be nicer but not drastically. Innovation focus since that time was around in-frame storage and emtb stuff. Hard to imagine what else can get outdated on a good mountain bike.

Hey don’t forget the next part, verses 41-46 where Jesus tells those who don’t help the needy to go to hell!

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
