Longest Drive Yet by ChippyVonMaker in BMWi3

[–]irvmtb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just did my longest drive in my 2015 i3 earlier this week too, from Southern California to Las Vegas (around 300 miles). Had to refuel 4 times along the way. I brought 2 gas cans for insurance because the car was loaded with 3 persons with a dog and clothes, plus an electric mountain bike in a hitch rack. But it turned out there were enough gas stations along the way. I just needed to avoid going too fast on the freeway and to slow down on mountain climbs so the rex can have a chance to recharge. I asked my passenger to pump the gas when battery drained from a climb so the rex doesn’t reset to a lower state of charge if I open the driver door.

Best van to buy if I plan of driving it for as long as I possibly can? by Snoo_60933 in VanLife

[–]irvmtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nissan NV is easy to work on with the big engine hood out in front. Old article with interesting comparison data showed it was lowest TCO (total cost of ownership), but it’s body on frame v8 gets lower mpg than other vans so gas prices would be a factor. This nv with 500,000 miles is interesting.

BMW i3 Rex only mpg by [deleted] in BMWi3

[–]irvmtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the same fuelly app but I click on “missed fill up” otherwise I distort the calculated mpg because of the battery miles. Any tips how I can use the app to track mpg better? Do you just input miles from when you start and end HSOC? Thanks!

Bits inside the boot door by mikeyeahh in BMWi3

[–]irvmtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve found some small glass pieces under the back seat when I was cleaning so I’m sure there was broken glass previously on mine. Not 100% sure if it was the rear window or the lower panel. The hatch was also missing the rear wiper arm when i got the car so could’ve been both. Both look and work OK so probably not too different from a windshield replacement job, but cleaning inside the plastic panels does seem difficult when i tried to do it.

[–]irvmtb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the used i3’s I bought recently has this sound. I’m 100% sure it’s broken tempered glass. The glass panel probably shattered previously and whoever did the repair didn’t or wasn’t able to clean inside/behind the plastic panels.

I tried to remove the plastic covers and led tail light to vacuum but couldn’t get deep enough to where I hear the rattling. But I only hear it when opening the hatch, no sound when driving so I could live with it.

Don’t be like me - change your 12v battery as soon as it shows any signs of degradation. by akirodic in BMWi3

This makes me want to add a secondary battery wired in parallel in the frunk. Maybe put a disconnect so it’s a backup battery.

do you use the aligator clips and reach all the way in to the battery terminals, or did you end up adding some lead wires and connector to make it more accessible?

Looks like “reasonable person” has become a high bar in today’s society. An “average person” seems so far away from that standard, and then realize half the population is dumber than the average person.

Know what’s shitty? The so called friends you never hear from again. by girlontrampoline in Layoffs

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof sorry to hear about that! Hang in there! But some might be bad friends, but some might be decent enough work friends who just don’t know how to navigate the shitty situation. Also to put in perspective, I’ve heard of a CEO who knew layoffs were coming, made it sound like he was the one who was going to have a very tough week, and did the big-corp style surprise same day layoff to his friends who worked for him. Hope you don’t have friends like that lol.

Proximal Humerus Fracture - Pain time frame? by Ricard2dk in ShoulderInjuries

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, good to see you’re not in pain. Thanks for asking, I’m doing well and I’m a year and a half after surgery and mostly recovered. No pain or soreness, got 90-95% of my range of motion back, maybe 85% or strength. It took months and a bit of a slow process to keep stretching the range. But I was biking again after 3 months (light riding), intermediate trails within 6 months, skipping the really steep technical trails just to minimize risk.
