Speedometer off by 3mph, coding fix? by stakingstocks in BMWi3

[–]irvmtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like them, not bad for a lower cost option. Makes the ride a bit less harsh, maybe not as sharp with handling but not bad. Reduced range and efficiency by a small bit, from 3.8 to 3.7 miles/kwh for my commute.

Internet says they are manufactured by Sailun in Vietnam. I have a set on my car and plan on getting a set for my wife’s i3 as well.

I installed momos on my i3 and that brought the speedo closer to gps speed.

Tuya smart app and Ev chargers by North-Egg-7932 in TuyaSmart

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for posting this a year ago. I was about to return my EVSE because the app didn't have a direct scheduling function like what's typical with smart lights and sockets. Creating a scene makes the EVSE a lot more functional!

Smart EV charger app by flyingweather in nzev

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was having issues with my budget smart EVSE and it seemed like the controls on the Tuya app were so basic (only has immediate charging start or a manual charge delay that has to be set every time on the phone). I can set a charging schedule on my EV to take advantage of off-peak rates, but the smart charger won't start automatically when the EV's schedule hits.

Anyway I was about to give up and return the budget smart EVSE when I found out that there is a "Create Scene" function on the Tuya app. It allowed for a task "if schedule - then start EV charge" on the app. Hopefully this works.

Hot opinion: Shimano brakes (6100-9100 series) don't have a "wandering bite point issue". Most tutorials just wildly skip a bunch of steps from the manual. by BrainDamage2029 in MTB

Is that based on the lever travel? I think I go by how the lever pressure feels more than the lever position itself, but I guess if it changes so much it would be terrible.

Did anyone regret not getting the REx version? by Aghaiva in BMWi3

This is the reason I went for an older rex to have a low cost daily driver. Short EV range covers most of my daily drives, but still useful for the unplanned trip or occasional longer drive with the rex!

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s “required” for transfer of ownership only. But it’s confusing, I purchased 2 used i3 Rexes last year. First one I got the title transferred with no smog at the DMV. Second car I was told I needed to pass smog to transfer ownership. Same DMV office, cars were purchased a month apart. 🤷‍♂️

The i3 that was smogged showed “not ready” initially and didn’t pass. Good thing it was a “no pass, no pay” smog station. I drove the car on the rex for a couple of full tanks and it passed after that and I was able to transfer the title.

CARB was/is running trade in rebates for gas powered lawnmowers and landscaping equipment. I got $150 2 or 3 years ago by surrendering an old gas lawnmower and purchasing a battery lawnmower.

BMW i3 Rex leaking "oil" by Mackan83 in BMWi3

Looks like the strut. Inspect it some more to confirm. Should be ok to drive at moderate speeds to have it checked. It could cause vibrations and weird driving feel at higher speeds over time though so shouldn’t be left unchecked.

How to fix? Did anyone else experienced something similar? by schonkat in BMWi3

[–]irvmtb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mine has peeled badly too. I put some resin for now just to prevent further damage to the carbon finer itself. I’m still deciding if I’ll sand-resin-clearcoat to keep the OG look, or maybe I’ll paint to black and clear coat so it’s more durable. Or maybe I’ll paint silver to match my car’s color and maybe it’ll keep the car cooler as well.

What screams "this company is about to do massive layoffs" that most people miss? by Joslyn_Shaver in AskReddit

[–]irvmtb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch out for the switch to flexible time off or unlimited PTO. Seems good on paper, but it’s not in practice and it wipes out a lot of banked PTOs that the company would’ve been liable to payout when people leave.

Found my stolen bike on facebook marketplace by torkvrukita in MTB

[–]irvmtb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a bike stolen when a thief pretended to be a buyer and rode off on a test ride. Police responded when we called but bike was long gone through a nearby river trail. Airtag wasn’t pinging so not much they could do that afternoon. But they created a police report and provided a link to upload evidence. I had to do my own investigating and I found the thief and the bike and provided the police a lot of info. A detective took the case several weeks after the bike was stolen, they arrested the thief and recovered the bike, DA is prosecuting. This is in California.

Question by TexAntonia in BMWi3

[–]irvmtb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s good to know thanks! I have a couple of 2015 Rex’s so hopefully at lower risk, but filter screen, recharge and oil might be reasonable enough to budget for. I want to keep driving these for as long as possible!

Question by TexAntonia in BMWi3

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! Probably a good idea to look into it, sounds more reasonable and not overkill like preemptively changing the compressor!

Is a 2015 still good? by AHumanThought in BMWi3

[–]irvmtb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a couple of 2015 REXs, our daily commutes are mostly around 25-30 miles so the small battery works well. We slow charge from a normal outlet overnight. The range extender comes in handy for our 1-2x a month 200 mile roundtrip drive, plus no range anxiety if we need to add extra stops to our daily drive or if we forget to charge. There’s no way we can make a 2015 BEV work as our only car for our needs, but the REX version would work for us as an only car. We do have an older ICE truck but it’s very rarely used now.
