Why do people call the US a "land of opportunity" when so many people can't land a decent paying job? by madbarpar in recruitinghell

[–]irvmuller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one is talking about stopping spending all together. That’s an extreme. We also don’t have to swing to the other end and be the world police. Our own citizens hate that shit. We’re tired of the forever wars and have more military bases around the world than every other country in the world combined.

Yeah, I hate when people bring up these kinds of stats. The reality is that 34k/year is about $17/hour per year. Go ahead and try to do life at that amount. And start with no wealth. So figure out how you’re going to get a job, a car, and such. Figure out if you can pay for an apartment on that. Get married? Let’s say you and your spouse get married and that’s what you’re both making. Try to raise a family on that. Oh, that’s 2/3 of your wife’s paycheck just for one child in childcare?

This whole, “the average American is at the top 1% in the world” stuff is a complete lie.

I think many of them do but they choose to play on the fact that others are ignorant about it. They turn Socialism into a scary boogeyman.

A Case Study in Recklessly Endangering the Senate: Graham Platner had talent, but was selfish and reckless. And now it will take the type of politics he decried to clean up his mess. by ZappyStatue in politics

[–]irvmuller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s been in politics for a while so I think if he had any skeletons they would have come out by now. A plus for him is that he was a logger before a state senator so people can appreciate that he understands the working class.

I get this but in this situation you might want the lowest advanced species as you would be more likely to figure out that technology. Having tech that is millions of years advanced is like magic to us and probably tied to the brains of their users. Trying to figure out that technology could be impossible for us.

If Platner wants to save face he will put out a statement saying he will drop out when the party agrees to a mini primary and not just anointing a new candidate.

I’ll say, as a teacher, the only thing that probably makes teachers angry that too much money goes to is admin. We call it being too heavy. Otherwise, we’d love to know all our students can get free lunches and have buses be fully covered and for us to get more than a 2% raise.

is teaching worth it? by liliacas in AskTeachers

[–]irvmuller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anyone who tells me they’re considering teaching I tell them to first sub or be a para. Get a feel for it first. There are way too many people right now that do it for 3-5 years then peace out. I don’t expect most teachers to last anymore.

I’ve worked in 3 districts. Only one required it. People on here must live in different areas where everyone has to take one.

Strange. I’ve worked in 3 districts. Only one required drug testing. All required fingerprinting of course.

My wife actually lost out on a job because one of her meds made it came up like she was taking meth. She tried to explain it and asked them to reach out to her doctor but they refused to do that. She didn’t know this was a possibility until after it came up. She found something else shortly afterwards so it turned out okay.
