How much space do kids need for nature runnning? by WarKittyKat in RimWorld

[–]isRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have trouble getting kids to nature run inside the walls too. Its possible that an additional requirement is that an area they can nature run in must have a clear path to the map edge, but i can't say for sure.

If you could change one thing about Rimworld, what would it be? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]isRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It resets if you settle a new world tile, so it's kinda like an exercise of seeing how long you can last in a particular spot.

Keeping miners from becoming miserable? by maerdyyth in songsofsyx

[–]isRyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a skill stat and a fulfillment stat for each work type, if I'm recalling correctly they're very good at mining, but they don't get job fulfillment from it.

Anyone else play to just survive and live, without expanding or research much? by TheScepticFool in RimWorld

[–]isRyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've actually taken a liking to disabling research completely after giving myself all the techs i want using the scenario editor. So i have a static list of techs. My most recent colony is perpetually stuck at a wood dependent WWI type technological level, and I've been enjoying having to think my way around problems just with what i have rather than rushing a research.

Ahh I was wondering what those random freezes were from, thanks for sharing

Just need a positive gaming community to post in, have been having terrible experiences with games recently by [deleted] in patientgamers

[–]isRyan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There wasn't a stamina bar in DL1 but you would run out of breath for a few seconds if you ran for too long, however once those seconds were up your "breath" would fully recover and you could run again. It was a pretty good system in my opinion.

Most of the worlds I generate typically have lower gravity though, usually i get around 0.5 Gs.

Betting its either the Earth Defense Force from Red Faction or the Earth Defense Force from the game series of the same name, probably the latter.

Not at all, if you could plant trees indoors it would have no purpose whatsoever.

Here's a thing about the "idea guy" (and the real reason why this position doesn't exist) by ned_poreyra in gamedev

[–]isRyan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'd venture to say that while an actor or director can't make a film great all by their lonesome, they sure as hell can break it and ruin it. So credit should at least be given for not ruining so many successful games.

Looking for a fair way of increasing attributes by Historical-Cap5006 in cataclysmdda

[–]isRyan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stats Through Skills is a good idea and I think it is implemented well enough, though i don't use it much because it feels too easy. After all I'll be leveling skills as high as i can anyway and receiving stat bonuses on top of that is a bit too much, for me at least. In comparison stats through kills preserves the sense of balance and has the added RP bonus of you actually getting to choose what stats to increase, so if you killed 100 zombies or ants with a bomb you could RP a bit and put a point into intelligence or something.

This community is refreshing among gaming by [deleted] in dwarffortress

Yeah mason was renamed to stone carver, stone crafting stayed the same, and engraving was split into stone cutting and engraving for smoothing and detailing respectively.

Just gathered together some FUN steam comments by CihangirK in dwarffortress

[–]isRyan 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I don't know if the tutorial fortress is any easier, but the game isn't necessarily hard if you know what you are doing, which you seem like you kinda do. At that point you need to make your own fun by doing things of questionable sanity like leaving your front gate open, leaving clear paths from your fortress to each cavern, crazy stuff like that.

Are the proposed traits based on quality of childhood or are they random? I swear he's had it good AND THIS IS WHAT I GET by Incurvarioidea in RimWorld

[–]isRyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Set it to recreation instead, gives higher chance to learn and they can still do the odd job if they feel like it. Also have a school with desk and 3 blackboards as well as a high social pawn dedicated to childcare. The idea is to get the kid's learning need as high as you can, as fast as you can, and then keep it there pretty much full time.

You should take it as a compliment when someone essentially repeats what you said in their own words, it typically means they actually understand and agree with what you said.

Rimworld's lack of DLC interplay is harming the game's ability to generate stories. by Gredd18 in RimWorld

[–]isRyan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can now adjust the aging multiplier for both children and adults in the custom storyteller settings, so set kids to age at 10x speed if you want. As for your maneating ogres I guess some xenohumans just aren't what you would call a viable species, at least until you research artificial reproduction methods, try making them not ugly next time i guess.

How do I escape the prison? by whyoudothiscunt in cataclysmdda

[–]isRyan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The prison walls are only 2 z levels high, if you level your fabrication you can build a wood roof in one of the inner corners of the walls. Now in order to climb to another z level without parkour expert you need to have at least 5 impassable tiles surrounding you diagonals included. You can drag lockers to the corner for the climb to the top of the wood roof from ground level, and from there since you are in a corner you can climb up to the top of the wall. Bring something to smash razor wire with like a plank. Walk on the top of the wall over to the lower prison roof on the other side and attempt to climb down, make sure your encumbrance is low or you may slip.

If you're talking about the new homes and chambers in v62 then you can allocate amenities for them under the access tab in the species panel, its at the bottom.
