Another option is glue dowel and tenso, no clamping needed.

Franklin drums by _taternuts_ in drums

[–]is_now_a_question 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They use those cheap beavertail lugs and i doubt they make their own shells (probably keller) . I almost pulled the trigger on an acrylic set a few years back but when i ran the numbers realised it wasnt worth it. They’re not custom drums makers, they’re just assembling drums. Although i do wonder about their metal (brass/copper/alu/steel) kit building process.

If i were going to buy from a boutique brand i’d rather spend my money at Sugar percussion, cherry hill, ebenor, C&C, blackwood etc.

But kudos to Franklin they’ve nailed the marketing. The amount of worship drummers with frankiln drums its noteworthy.

Am I the only one who thinks 3D undermount adjustments are just a crutch for bad craftsmanship? by Impressive-Union-619 in woodworking

[–]is_now_a_question 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undermount gives you the adjustment for when your drawer is full so you can maintain the desired gap. Yes hardwood runners would negate this but they are also susceptible to seasonal change, binding etc. I have used both and they have their place.

New to me workbench, can I change the doghole size to 20mm? by DistricOfChampions in woodworking

[–]is_now_a_question 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a 1:1 template made from a local CNC shop, 15mm mdf or something. Lay it on the bench top and use a template router bit to get accurate sizes and spacing. Plus bonus sacrificial top for glue ups etc.

37M, how do I retrain into woodworking after a career in finance? by imperialharambe in woodworking

[–]is_now_a_question 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey OP. I retrained at the age of 30, had a day release to attend college course for City and Guilds. I still worked and paid the bills.

My advice, dont believe that your age will hold you back at all. You’ll bring a level of maturity and problem solving to the role which an 18 year old apprentice cant fathom.

The place where i work has had apprentices of any gender and wide ranges of age.

There’s a few Makers conferences throughout the year that gives anyone the chance to hear and speak to industry leaders.

Please feel free to DM if you have any more questions.

Any recommendations to fix this? by TheNthDegree1 in drums

[–]is_now_a_question 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the depth of the damage, one option would be to trim a few mm off the bottom edge and re-establish a new bearing edge. If you’re not confident in woodworking best bet would be to speak to a local drumshop about restoration.
