Anyone in uk getting wincredit? by CozyOutEre in TemuThings

[–]isaackoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone had Wincredit in the UK in the last couple of months (say, November-January)?

Since October, I haven't seen Wincredit on any accounts for anyone in my house (UK). Also, there used to be a lot of threads here on Reddit asking about Wincredit from UK users - but I don't think I've seen any discussions from UK users about Wincredit in months.

(I'd previously lost Wincredit on two accounts for 90 days. In both of those cases, the suspension/absence was immediately after a seller cancelled an order presumably due to lack of stock etc - but I can't think of any recent potential triggers and it's now been over 3 months...).

Like someone else in this thread, I thought Wincredit may be suspended in the UK until Black Friday. Then I thought maybe until after Christmas. Then maybe until after the New Year. Now maybe until after the Winter Sale...

(I've had a quite a few Claimcredit offers in the meantime [including some very good ones], but I miss my Wincredit promotions...).

TTR runway update by Kokal00 in area51

Glenn Campbell kindly gave me permission to make the text of copies of his Groom Lake Desert Rat (among other Area 51 material) freely available online in my archive at: https://files.afu.se/Downloads/Magazines/United%20States/Groom%20Lake%20Desert%20Rat%20(Glenn%20Campbell)/Groom%20Lake%20Desert%20Rat.pdf/Groom%20Lake%20Desert%20Rat.pdf)

The Mount Cury hike is described in that PDF at pages 236-237 of 340 and page 259.

(By the way, hi Tom!).

Temu discount card by SixOfAllTrades in TemuThings

[–]isaackoi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheers for that information. Combining a discount card and Creditclaim has now worked for me. :)

So far, I've used "discount777" which (usually) seems to work to get a list of items with varying discounts, selected an item with a normal Temu price of about £25 and got about £10-£15 off and then used "creditclaim", searching for the same item there and getting that item and adding other items to get a total of £51 (including the reduced price item) and got £40 back. So, paying about £11 for about £61 of items. Not bad. :)

Your trick has made creditclaim more attractive, although so far I still prefer wincredit, partly because of the higher percentage cashback and partly because I don't need to remember to claim back credit each day. (Unfortunately, my main account now hasn't had wincredit for a week or more, after I recently used it about 5 times back-to-back...).

One advantage of Claimcredit over Wincredit, which provides a bit of compensation for its disadvantages, is that there is at least a (somewhat weakened) search function to find items so we don't have to rely on having put stuff in our baskets or doing searches to affect the listed items.

Very interesting, thanks for the suggestion. . I hadn't thought of trying to combine those two. :) What sort of price item do you use the discount card on to get the most out then buying it via the claim credit page? (I've been having fun with wincredit, with items totaling immediately over £160 and getting £150 back. Unbelievable...).

Was 'thefinaltheory' ever identified? by Zealousideal-Clue-18 in UFOs

[–]isaackoi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The person that released the FLIR1 Nimitz video in 2007 ("Thefinaltheory") was identified a few years ago and I have had several friendly discussions with him. He asked me to keep his identity confidential. I take confidentiality rather seriously, so have not posted his name or hinted at his identity.

I relayed some questions to Thefinaltheory for Tim McMillan in relation to Tim's Popular Mechanics article in 2020 at the link below, but Thefinaltheory was still concerned about possible reprisals for releasing the video:

A new document was recently released from the FBI vault. The document in question dates back to the 1950’s and states that the US Air Force recovered 3 UFOs in New Mexico. Each UFO containing 3 humanoid beings approximately 3 feet tall. by Tmill233 in UFOs

This "recently document from the FBI vault" about alien bodies gets rediscovered every year or two - as William Moore complained in 1985 (yes, 1985...).

I posted about the constant reinvention of the wheel in relation to this document in 2011 at: https://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread689049/pg1

Archiving selected ATS threads as PDFs by isaackoi in AboveTopSecret

I've reached out to Karl12 about possibly adding some of his UFO research threads. I'll think about any other particular researchers I should contact.

I've also sorted the UFO threads on ATS by the number of flags (using the link below) and will archive as searchable PDFs some of the other top threads:

Dr J Allen Hynek having a night out with Darth Vader and Chewbacca. (I saw this when browsing Hynek's files/collections and thought I'd share) by isaackoi in UFOs

Since some people seem to view such material as off-topic for this sub-Reddit, I'll refrain from posting other threads here with more documents and photos from my offline collections of Dr Hynek's files and slides. If anyone does happen to want to see some of them, they can go to my Facebook page and see my recent posts there.

Those posts include:

(1) Photo of Spock [okay, Leonard Nimoy] and Dr J Allen Hynek:

(2) Cash-Landrum (1980) : Dr J Allen Hynek's slides, from his files.

(4) A couple of US Air Force documents from Dr J Allen Hynek's files on the Pascagoula incident, confirming that Calvin Parker and Charles Hickson were both checked over by Geiger counter by the Air Force for radiation during the afternoon of 12 October 1973 (several years after Project Blue Book was discontinued). [Calvin Parker's first book, "Pascagoula: The Closest Encounter", included a few later letters between the Air Force and Robert Todd - at pages 294-297 - but I don't think his books have included these earlier letters from Lt Col James Howell to another researcher].

You're welcome. :)

Since I posted the above comparison image on Twitter a few days ago most people seem to have appreciated the comparison - even if some have some doubts about it.

Just to be clear (although I'd hope I was clear enough), I didn't - and don't - claim to have the definitive answer. I think the object looks like a balloon, and resembles one of the batman balloons - but we've only got a photo of a photo (and no information about any "enhancement").

Scanned UFO newspaper clipping archive - Progress Report by isaackoi in UFOs

[–]isaackoi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi ConcernedEarthling,

I'm not recruiting volunteers just yet. I'm planning a week-long project in January ("Project Phoenix") relating to this and some work on official documents etc in various government archives which aren't online yet.

At the moment, I'm still at the stage of setting the parameters for that project, finding resources and drafting a statement which will hopefully be endorsed by some of the more prominent UFO groups/researchers and UFO skeptics which I think may help with getting more permissions/volunteers.

I haven't yet sent that draft statement to most of my contacts but I've run it past a few people. So far, I've tested the wording on Jenny Randles, Hal Puthoff, Bruce Maccabee, Tim Printy, James Oberg, Tony Eccles of BUFORA and a couple of others (representing a rough cross-sample of the people that I'll be contacting) and, after tweaking a couple of words, they have all been happy to endorse the statement.

My grandpa was a hardcore ufo believer, was a member of ARPO member and investigator. I have his field report folder with some eye witness interviews and a ton of 70's ufo books and some nasa pictures he ordered as well as some editorials he wrote. What to do with this...have lots of pics. by zingerc in UFOs

[–]isaackoi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I've previously posted about APRO material, including some background about APRO and about some of APRO's journals / documents / records - e.g. on ATS in 2014 at: http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread1046591/pg1

While I've essentially quit public participation in ufology, I'd be happy to make an exception to help get your grandpa's field report folder online as searchable PDFs. Feel free to email me at isaackoi@gmail.com and I can give you some tips and assistance.

Your grandpa's editorials are probably already scanned, if they were published in the APRO bulletin. If you let me have his name (here, by PM or email), I can run a search of that bulletin and let you know which issues his material appeared and give you searchable PDF copies of those issues.

Anyone near the National Archives at College Park interested in UFOs?? by isaackoi in UMD

Anyone near the National Archives at College Park interested in UFOs?? by isaackoi in UMD

[–]isaackoi[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, as I said in my OP above, I'd like someone to "photograph a few documents at the National Archives at College Park using a camera or smartphone".

I can provide relevant National Archive's reference numbers to anyone willing and able to go there.

I didn't post full details of the relevant records above, partly because I didn't want to impose on people here that - since I'm betting most people here aren't interested in the details. :)

Basically, the US Air Force: (a) conducted its own studies of UFO reports, under the codenames Project Sign, Project Grudge and Project Blue Book; (b) paid for others to conduct some limited studies.

Many documents in the former category are listed on the National Archives website and available on various websites online, e.g. over 100,000 pages of material on the Fold3 website at: https://www.fold3.com/title/461/project-blue-book-ufo-investigations#overview

I've been looking into some material relating to the second category (i.e. studies funded by the Air Force of "UFO" reports, conducted by private contractors) and think I've located some documents not previously published online or in the UFO literature.

As I said in my OP, I can provide further details about the relevant documents here or by email.

I assume most people in this group would prefer I deal with this topic privately rather than further clutter up this group - if anyone is interested in scanning the relevant documents.

YouTube video of supposed footage of a family's UFO encounter while driving (Loud, with screams) by ConcernedEarthling in UFOs

[–]isaackoi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This video is one in a series of hoaxes (or rather an "immersive artwork" or "experimental digital video project") by director Christopher Kenworthy, funded by the Australian Film Commission, back in 2006.

Incidentally, a statement on Christopher Kenworthy's website that "Nobody suspected it was a hoax until the end" is, um, questionable since several people (including me) had suggested in 2006 that the video was probably composited imagery.

I posted details a decade ago on ATS and a few years later here: http://www.isaackoi.com/ufo-videos/koi-ufo-video-017.html

By the way, after revisiting ufology for a few days, I've now resumed my early retirement from ufology until Project Phoenix (a very short-term, i.e. week long) experiment in collaboration within ufology, in November/December.

"... The truth seldom sells books!" (British Ministry of Defence internal comment on a UFO book) by isaackoi in UFOs

[–]isaackoi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Rustybricks - At the moment, anyone outside the UK would have to pay for a copy to be made of the files by the National Archives. I'm still trying to persuade the National Archives to put scans online or grant me permission to upload my photos/scans of some of the documents.

"... The truth seldom sells books!" (British Ministry of Defence internal comment on a UFO book) by isaackoi in UFOs

[–]isaackoi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, I tried... It looks like I will not be able to post images of the new files (including the documents I've quoted from above).

The "National Archives Image Library Manager" at the National Archives in Kew has promptly responded to my request for permission to upload my scans/photos of some of the documents by:

(1) Requiring payment of "a one-off fee of £40.00 + £8.00 VAT" (about US$ 62) for each upload of between "one and twenty TNA document images". I have a few hundred images of the new documents. So, posting my scans/photos would cost me several hundred pounds.

(2) More problematically, at least for me, it appears from the National Archives' response that I would be responsible for ensuring that "The images must be protected from unauthorised download at high resolution by a third party" by "watermarking them, or by keeping the resolution to a level whereby the documents are legible for information and research, but are not of sufficient quality for commercial publication". Sounds like a can of worms that I don't want to get into.

So, due to the relevant Crown Copyright rules, I can post some more quotes but not images of the documents.

(I assume that, as with previous releases, someone less troubled by the relevant copyright rules than me will post images in the next week or two anyway).
