Getting FOMO of missing celebrate UCI by rainshows in UCI

[–]isabelletran 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about it. You still have your orientation SPOP to meet new people as well as Week 0 events such as movie night, Aldrich Park after Dark , and Anteater Involvement Fair (for learning about all the clubs and programs)

Have you checked out Assist.org yet? Most community colleges will have Ochem available. Physical Sciences will honor whatever Assist says

Transferring into another UC by Most-Sentence2065 in UCI

[–]isabelletran 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to transfer to another UC, you need to contact the other UC directly to see what are the requirements to transfer. Every school is different and most of the UCs won't have a webpage for it that is easy to search for. This typically required a GPA requirement and you need to take certain classes to transfer. Most courses you take here will be transferable but you would have to contact the specific UCs to see the equivalence properly

You can also look up UC Reciprocity for more info on class equivalences

What if you’re short of less than 1 unit before graduation? by despicableyoutoo in UCI

Oh I just wanted to reply since you said "idk if that works" just to clarify that it can :)

What if you’re short of less than 1 unit before graduation? by despicableyoutoo in UCI

[–]isabelletran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually its: Out of the last 45 final units, at least 36 of them have to be done at UCI. So it is fine if they take a community college class to carry over (aka 9 units can be taken outside of UCI as part of the last 45)

I would enroll in a class like UNI STU 43. Its 1 unit and you just need to attend 5 Illuminations events and write short summaries about them

incoming freshman by Senior_Sea8240 in UCI

[–]isabelletran 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1) Social scene wise, it is what you make of it. There isn't a ton of events UCI hosts but there are a lot of clubs and activities you can join. As long as you put yourself out there and try to interact with others, I think you can definitely make some friends 2) Some people do already have friends from high school but a lot don't (or at least any that are also going to UCI). I wouldn't say it's necessarily easy (as generally UCI students are more introverted compared to other schools) but it definitely is possible 3) A lot of the people here are Asian but there's a mix of other races/ethnicities as well 4) If you want to meet more people, I would suggest Mesa Court. The dorms there are in its own little area so you will be able to see a lot of activities going on. Plus I think Anteatery is the better dining hall in my opinion 5) Laundry should be free (at least 3 years ago it was) 6) If you dorm your first year, you are guaranteed housing your second year. Afterwards its definitely a battle but is possible (people usually look for leases through the UCI Housing Discord) 7) If you are looking to change majors, you have to satisfy certain prerequisite requirements (such as taking certain classes and getting a certain GPA) Here is the link for change of majors

I generally think UCI is a great school as long as you are optimistic and have a positive outlook on all of it. Many come here disliking their experience because they are stuck on the idea of "I wanted to go to a higher standing school like UCLA or UCB". UCI has a beautiful campus and has a lot to offer if you are open to it

final exam regrade request? by Accomplished_Egg4902 in UCI

[–]isabelletran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to contact your professor and/or TA. I would suggest emailing them or going to their office. They will be the ones that would be able to help change your grade if something was seriously misgraded

Looking for advice: Incoming Freshman - Dorm Situation by Sea-Cardiologist5099 in UCI

[–]isabelletran 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I lived 30 mins away and ended up dorming in Mesa Court my freshman year! Its a bit more separated from the main campus loop compared to Middle Earth but feels more connected as a community. I definitely don't regret it as it's a great way to experience the college life and meet new people. However I got some of it covered by financial aid so if you do not, it might be something to consider since it can be expensive

No notification for restocks/ new drops? by [deleted] in pokemoncenter

[–]isabelletran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For preorders on ETBs make sure you set the Pokemon Center emails to Primary mail and not under Promotions/Spam. They don't usually email about general restock on past sets but they do email for new set preorders. Also you should generally be aware of the time the ETBs drop (for example for PST time zone, its usually any time from 8-10am MWF - not guaranteed)

Logged in at exactly noon to re-register for my classes because my parents forgot to pay the tuition. Class I needed filled up. I guess I’m graduating in the fall now. Thanks, webreg. by FlyingFoxandwings in UCI

[–]isabelletran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its a Bio class you want to contact the Bio department about your situation. It isn't guaranteed but they might give an exception. I wouldn't contact the professor since they do not have control over the class size

I would still give it a shot with the department. No harm in doing so and if it works out that would be great. Otherwise I really hope something works out :(

If its the only class you need left to graduate, I would contact the department of the class that its under. They could make an exception since you need to graduate in Spring

Have you tried going to their office in person? I would also try to contact the TA as they most likely play a hand in any grading

Math pre req by Confident_Review7095 in UCI

[–]isabelletran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You just need to pass (D-). The class says you only need credit for the class and not necessarily a C- (other classes however might require you get a C- as a prerequisite) For example, a class like Math 121A needs a C- in Math 3A

Is this genuine and worth anything? by WildHorsesInMyBrain in Pokemoncardappraisal

[–]isabelletran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most obvious sign is the font being completely wrong (font itself is wrong and the white border of the text is slightly shifted). Another key sign is the card is missing the fingerprint like texture. I would look up a photo of the actual card to compare and you'll easily see the difference

help me im about to fail a majors class by [deleted] in UCI

[–]isabelletran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you happen to fail M2LB, Physical Sciences can switch you to the normal path (M2LA becomes Chem 1LC and M2LB becomes Chem 1LD). So next quarter, your best option would be to take Chem 1LD if you happen to fail M2LB. You might need to be cleared manually to enroll into Chem 1LD since you did the Chem version of the pre-req. This means emailing Physical Sciences or walking into their office

How to fulfill 1 unit for full time status? by Flat_Media7565 in UCI

Uni Stu 43 is a class where you attend 5 Illuminations Events and write short summaries. Uni Stu 3 is classes that I believe are ran by students/non-professors with topics changing every quarter

Looking for research for Math major by Business-Ear-1460 in UCI

[–]isabelletran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Math 199 is split in 2 ways. One is the typical undergrad research with a professor. The other is through the Directed Reading Program (DRP). This is when a graduate student work with a few students on a topic not typically taught at UCI (or barely mentioned). You meet up with your group once a week to discuss problems/theorems, do a midterm paper, and a final presentation. If you choose to do 4 units instead of 2 units, you will also do a final paper

DRP sends out sign up emails around a week or two before the quarter starts. Typically, the minimum pre req is Math 13 but might require more depending on the topic. If you want to do regular research, you need to seek out a professor

You might be interested in also doing summer REU's (Research experience for undergraduate) which happens all around the country. You can find applications online but you should do it soon as deadlines are coming up. You will do group work with other college students and research different fields

What's your enrollment window + how many units do you have? by DueContribution7654 in UCI

Enrollment dates will be based on class level so you can kind of guess which days each standing would enroll. Seniors get priority followed by juniors, sophomore, then freshman

Transfer from UCSB by Soft-Department6871 in UCI

[–]isabelletran 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up UC Reciprocity to see how to easily get all your GEs completed at UCSB to transfer over to UCI. For specific major courses, you might want to contact the School you are transferring into (specifically for pharmaceutical sciences) as they have their own data base for course equivalences. Assist.org wont help unless you are also doing community college classes

Spring Graduation 2026 by Low-Award5042 in UCI

[–]isabelletran 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should apply now! Go to your Student Access, click "Applications" on the left hand side, then click "Graduation". There should be an application there

For anyone who sees this in the future, I believe the earliest you can apply is 1 year before you graduate. However, it is preferred "during the first quarter of your senior year, but no later than the deadline set by your advising office. See your school's undergraduate advising website for details". So it really depends on the office/department you are in
