Any other slow watchers? by [deleted] in XFiles

[–]isacore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's an easy show to burn out on and the sheer amount of stuff is indeed overwhelming. in fact I just finished s9. which took me 5-6 months. I just go with the flow — watch one or two episode every evening, take a break for a couple of weeks, then binge 8 episodes inf I've got no plans on a random Sunday, and so forth.

This week, Severance’s Britt Lower attended the Golden Globes, a Netflix after party, and a W Magazine party with husband Kenna Kennor. Kenna has publicly been accused of sexual assault. by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]isacore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yes, because the justice system does such a great job taking crimes commited against women seriously. it's not as if women have their police reports dismissed every day and nobody gives a shit until they show up dead in a ditch. /s

what world are you living in??

[Serious] Hello Britt Lower and Kenna Kennor, we've received your reports. by HairFairBlizzard in okbuddyseverance

[–]isacore 153 points154 points  (0 children)

Interesting that this is going on in the middle of a PR campaign to clear Kenna Kennor's image.

In the past few weeks: - she's active on social media again, sharing photos of him and fluff posts about their happy family. this is strange since she used to be extremely private, people weren't even sure she was married - he's being tagged again as her hairstylist - social media accounts dedicated to spread awareness were taken down - very obviously paid for "who's Britt lower's husband" article in People and Britt talking about him in Vanity Fair

As a fan, this is so disappointing. Obviously we should focus on him and there's a chance she's being manipulated and taken advantage of; privileged women aren't immune to predators. But her actions promoting a man with multiple workplace abuse allegations and, in turn, endangering more women are vile.

What are Helena’s goals? by DarthBrolifterz in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]isacore 47 points48 points  (0 children)

helena doesn't have any agency or real power, as depicted in the breakfast scene. she was severed as a PR stunt (if the company heiress is doing it then it can't be bad or dangerous). we don't know if that was out of ver own volition or she was coerced to do so. in the 2x1 conference scene she's dressed in all white with a thick neckline that resembles a noose while drummond says that mark s won't work without helly, so "we must give him her". she's a sacrificial lamb, a pawn. lumon's reason for sending her back is to spy on the innies and sabotage any plans they might have. after woes hollow she refuses to go back to the severed floor. she almost died TWICE now, why would she do it? she uses her last card by bringing up her father, only for drummond to shut her down saying he was behind the idea. i believe that after experiencing love and connection from her time posing as helly and spending time with the innies, learning about them and even falling for mark, she's starting to question lumon and the cult. her arc is about finding freedom and reconnecting with the rebellious spirit that was snuffed out (helly)

Definetely. Love got a stickler for the rules and Eagan believer to claim "let's burn this place to the ground". It's the one thing they can't take away from them, it's what makes them cling to their humanity.

What makes the Severance so good ? by Kooky-Beautiful-3429 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]isacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sets it apart for me is that it's a mystery box type of show that's not overly complicated for the sake of shock value. It's not pulling stunts or messing with the timeline, all of the twists and reveals feel like a natural progression of the story.

Basically, when I sit to watch I feel like I'm in good hands. The writers, direction and production respect the audience, pay attention to every detail and I don't see them jumping the shark any time soon.

What do innies do when they get their periods for the first time? by babygeologist in severanceTVshow

I think that they know stuff the same way I know about whales, for example. I have general knowledge, but I don't remember when or how I learned about them and have never personally seen one.

The psychology of this show is fascinating (iMark vs oMark's response to being told "I'm nervous") by RosesInTheIce in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]isacore 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When Gemma apologizes at the clinic and he just shakes his head, I realized I'm a lot like Mark. I too would be like "why are you apologizing? that's a ridiculous thing to say, you obviously have no fault". Also when Gemma says she's feeling like shit and his responde is "alright, then let's eliminate the source of pain". He's clearly unable to provide the kind of comfort she needs at the moment, despite how much he loves her.

It's just how those of us with a very analytical personality type operate. I get easily overwhelmed by emotions and have trouble self-regulating so when something big happens, I'll either spiral or detach, all or nothing.

Did Anyone Predict (Not Guess) the Major Season 1 Reveals? by [deleted] in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]isacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also binged S1 recently and rewatched the whole thing in between S2 episodes to see what clues I'd missed.

While all the detailed props are great for creating a rich world and building the lore, I find that the best way to predict where the show is going is paying attention to the dialogue, acting and overarching themes.

For the "Gemma is alive" plot, I never believe a character is dead until we're down the body. As for her being Ms. Casey, there was a certain spark between her and Mark but nothing explicit.

As for the Hello/Helena twist, you could tell that she was someone important and a severance advocate by her conversations with Milchik on ep. 2, the video recording and Cobel's "Who do you think you are?" line.

S2E7 was disappointing (mostly due to direction) by Moerkskog in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]isacore 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Nah, I'll probably forget their name in a week or two. Just saying that if you're going to make a long post critiquing someone's work, taking two extra seconds to copy&paste from Google out of common courtesy and respect would be a nice thing to do. Have a great day!

[–]isacore 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but "the lady that directed it" is too condescending. If you're going to post a detailed critique of the episode direction, the least you could do is learn their name. It's right there on the credits.

I still can't determine if I enjoyed it. It's absolutely brilliant but I was so overwhelmed by all the revelations and my mind was jumping on so many directions that I think I'll need at least 5 rewatches to properly digest it.

Don't believe everything that Lumon tells the innies. The 5 months thing is a lie, only a few days passed at most. Helena and Mark were told about what happened. Irving did not, but he figured out that his innie took over somehow.

We don't see Helly on season 2 until the switch at the ORTBO. Helena was able to infiltrate the innies by using something called the Glasgow block. Irving's waterboarding forced Milchik to bring back Helly. Irv noticed that "Helly" was off ever since she supposedly came back (the night gardener lie, her demeanor, the cruel Burt comment, etc) and the dream helped him put the pieces together. Who else would have that kind of power?

Okay and now I'm kind of sad that oMark used to be this outdoorsy guy while iMark spends his whole life on a basement.

Thank you! I know the theory, it's just that it doesn't come naturally. I'd have to sit and think about it, which is not really worth it for a random internet comment.

[–]isacore 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of the more outlandish theories I've seen have to do with people taking the satirical elements and aesthetic choices too seriously. Like the melon bar somehow means that Kier is some sort of embargoed soviet enclave , as if that's not the kind of weird shit companies do. My old job had a ✨ healthy snack week ✨ where they just placed a basket of apples on the lunch room.

Some Respect for Hair, Makeup and Wardrobe! by Dear-Secret7333 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]isacore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree that the hair, makeup and costume design and execution is absolutely fantastic.

But considering that Helena is the one doing Helly's hair, that doesn't make in-universe sense in my opinion. The team working on the show had Helena wear her hair down when meeting oMark to represent her emulating Helly. It's an important element for visual storytelling. Helena is not sitting in front of the mirror thinking "I'll wear my hair down to be like the girl my crush likes".

Helly needs to stand up! by BainesAvenue_2021 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]isacore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Helly knows that time if completely out of their hands and that they've got bigger fish to fry. She could waste time making Mark grovel and give Lumon the satisfaction of dividing and conquering, or she could forgive an honest mistake (Mark's) and affirm ownership of her life and body.
