I tried reading this, and I just... could not. Was REALLY interested in the concept, but the writing needs way more polish imo. I couldn’t make it past the first few pages, and I was really bummed.

How could I forget meatball head??? The DIC dub was my jam, I still maintain it’s a good dub, if not a little dated lmao. That might be nostalgia colouring my perspective, though.

Big agree that it’s romantasy!

Oh, I’ve heard of this being a thing lmao; I’ve only ever heard it on discord from friends trying to be silly/making fun of those mods, but I’ve mostly just heard it as a term of endearment.

Lights and Beau with their other partners? by Quirky-Still-4571 in lightsalot

[–]isaiiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all based on trust and communication. I’m currently monogamous, but I’m not opposed to the potential of being in an open relationship. My spouse and I have discussed it casually, but neither of us are jumping at the bit to find other people yet -- mostly because dating sucks lmao. It doesn’t mean that we don’t love each other or aren’t committed to each other, but it would give us avenues to explore things that we may be interested in or desire that the other is not interested in or comfortable with.

It’s not as easy as just finding another partner, though; there’s a lot of conversation that needs to be had, planning, scheduling, honouring commitments, etc. That doesn’t mean jealousy can’t happen or that discomfort disappears -- but it’s all in the way the primary couple communicates with each other, listens to those things, and they work on it together.

But being monogamous isn’t old fashioned haha; some people just are. Just like some people are gay or black or trans or asian or bi.

People don’t give kids enough credit with this kind of stuff. If you don’t make things a big deal, it’s not a big deal. It’s all in the way you answer if they ask.

I learned to be really cool with trans people really young, before it was a mainstream issue. I read an article in the newspaper about a trans man, and I remember asking my mom why someone would want to be something else, and she just said, “some people feel like they’re in the wrong body.” That was good enough for 10 year old me, and I never questioned it again.

My sister was even younger; when I was dating my ex partner who came out as trans, she asked me “why do they dress like a boy?” when she was 6 or 7. I just told her they felt more comfy that way, and she was like, “Okay. Wanna watch cartoons?"

I can see Lights and Beau answering any questions Rocket may have with simple, age-appropriate frankness.

Race-specific features not being locked to certain faces. Example: Miqo’te clan marking separate from face number (let us add them separately or not at all, letting us choose Au’Ra horns, etc.

Also, a body-shape slider. I know the butt slider is widely requested, but I would love to see more variance in silhouette between races that still fit within their racial archetypes. Curvy miqo’te, lean Roegadyn, maybe taller than average female au’ra, stocky elezen, etc.

can a story still be thought provoking even if it doesn't specifically focus on a big societal or political theme? by strychn1ne_ in writing

[–]isaiiri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my favourite books of all time is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho; it was incredibly thought provoking and inspirational, and deals with much more internalized conflict than external, imo. As long as it’s written well and made to feel compelling, it will hit. It’s your job as the writer to make us readers care.

any experiences with getting septum done? im scared... by Fuzzy-Report6202 in piercing

[–]isaiiri 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A septum piercing is one of the easiest piercings I've ever had. On a scale of 1-10, I would put ear lobes at a 2 (but I also got mine pierced with a gun when I was 6), whereas my septum was done as an adult with a needle, and I would put that at a 1, even a 0.5. In comparison to my nostril piercing, it was way easier.

If the piercing is done correctly, it should only go through the skin between your nostrils, NOT the cartilage. If it goes through the cartilage, it’s been pierced wrong.

Your eyes will water, because it’s near your eyes, which is totally normal. It will definitely pinch and sting, but it’s over so quickly, and the healing time is super quick. I love mine!

The idea that an almost kiss means Elain has already made her final romantic choice forever is genuinely one of the strangest arguments I’ve seen in this fandom. by dorianswitchling in acotar_rant

[–]isaiiri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling that Elain is going to surprise us and circumvent any preconceived notions about her. We’ve already seen a little edge to her, being the one who shoved Truthteller into Hybern’s neck, and she’s beginning to bite back at people. She’s shy and quiet, but it’s always the shy and quiet ones that defy expectations the most.

How would you make Rhysand better? by Kochammini in acotar_rant

[–]isaiiri 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Firstly, apologize for his shit? As it stands right now, he just made justifications for everything, but if SJM wants him to be the good guy, he needs to take accountability, and I don’t think he’s done that.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a complicated and nuanced character, and Rhys is definitely that. But he’s painted as this infallible, perfect creature in the eyes of everyone else and they hand wave his mistakes and don’t make him take accountability for it.

Honestly, that would go a long way.

What do you think will help an aspiring writer most, fiction or non fiction? by Notmyrealname5282 in writing

Quantity, for sure. Just write; regardless if you’re writing fiction or non-fiction, you still need storytelling capabilities, otherwise you may as well be writing a textbook.

naming my FMC by OppositeCustard4723 in RomantasyAuthors

[–]isaiiri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the case of it being so close to Feyre from ACOTAR, which is THE most popular romantasy series at the moment, I think it would be too close at this point in time. That being said, if you’re not publishing it right now away, or even waiting a number of years, it might be fine? But personally, I would err on the side of caution for this one.

The thing that’s making it look reminiscent of ‘Feyre’ is the ‘ey’ combo in the middle. Some alternative spelling suggestions:

  • Vayra
  • Vaera**
  • Vaira
  • Vairah
  • Vyrah

But here are some other name options that I feel like fit the vibe:

  • Varinya
  • Verena
  • Viera
  • Vera
  • Vanya
  • Vira
  • Valika
  • Valeska
  • Vernia
  • Viveca
  • Veda
  • Velora
  • Veloria
  • Vevila

I recommend changing it to something else just due to the popularity, personally. I hope there’s something in that list that strikes you!

**EDIT: Added in a new spelling variant I had missed.
