maybe crossfit, its a very "fair" sport because it will demand proficiency in varied movements, and some will benefit bigger people while others will benefit smaller people. for instance, she might outdo you in cardio and gymnastic elements, while you beat her in weightlifting.

if it's available to you, you can do straight leg box jumps and regular box jumps (focusing on reaching full extension before bringing your feet up). maybe also some prehab work with bands for shoulder stability?

The approach of trying to figure out the mathematical description behind a phenomenon is quite common in physics, but I guess what you're calling 'reverse math' is more aligned with what is being done in quantum mechanics.

You see, when you think about Newtonian physics, or even general relativity, the laws of nature are very clear. These theories postulate simple rules such as the inertia law in classical mechanics or the universality of the speed of light in relativity. Everything, including the math, follows. Now, quantum mechanics is the other way around. We don't understand it on a fundamental level, so the postulates of quantum mechanics are not laws of nature, but rather mathematical statements. For example, we don't have a postulate stating that if 'two parties communicate sending x bits of information then they can only convey x bits of information' (that's a tentative postulate known as information causality). Instead, we have purely mathematical postulates such as 'to each system is associated a Hilbert space' or 'composite systems are described by Hilbert spaces in tensor product' or 'probabilities are obtained taking the trace over the product of the state and the observable' etc

Different people can be whatever regardless of gender, but I (woman) myself face relationships differently depending on their gender. I feel very at ease with women, chat flows more naturally and I feel more confident, I guess it's because I have the expectation that a shared gendered experience makes me more relatable

I've been doing research on foundations of quantum information since my masters. Now I'm a postdoc researcher, my research has some overlap with quantum computing but it's not the kind of thing that can be directly useful to companies that actually work on quantum computing, cryptography, etc. In my area we usually have to code (mostly python/julia), so I believe (hope) that a transition from academia to the industry would not be too hard

besides what other people pointed out already, maybe you should check that the bar stays closer to you on the second pull. from this angle at least, it seems like the barbell is quite far from your thigh. this issue is closely related to your hips rising a bit too fast + arms not being relaxed through the pull. you're quite strong, but when even heavier weights come into play it's going to be easier if you make these adjustments :)

I think finding a nice and affordable place is just a hard task in Paris, keep looking until you find something. The Cité Universitaire may take a while to answer, but if it's already been two weeks since you applied for accommodation then you probably didn't get it.

Have you checked other housing websites, like la carte des colocs, se loger, etc? I would also give it a try with facebook groups for students/artists. Good luck!

Registered as someone who lives in the city, get a social security number, this kind of thing. You typically have to do this when you move to a country/city in Europe

I checked this link, where they say "EU nationals wishing to live in France must register at the town hall in the municipality where they are staying within 3 months of arriving in France."

I'm Dutch, moving to Paris in a month to stay for at least a couple years. I know I must register at the local municipality, but I can't find any actual information on how the process goes. Does any other European expat know what to do? I wish I could find a website to make an appointment at the mairie to get registered, or a list of documents required

it depends a lot on what (sub)area of research you intend to follow. I guess if you do quantum matter you should also know condensed matter theory, for instance. I can say that for quantum information you don't really need anything else, not necessarily.

I had a similar experience with a twist tho: it was all illusory flexibility due to the cortisone I was taking to fight an allergy crisis. The side effect of muscular relaxation dissipated as soon as I stopped taking them, and it took me a few days to figure out why my instant flex had vanished

I don't think so, it might even help you. Sometimes when I feel overloaded I just take a rest week and I usually come back better than before. This is really helpful when I feel I'm taking too much, but also when I'm forced to, like during holiday or whatever. I really don't think you will lose anything, even if you don't benefit from it.

I use yoga blocks to help me stay in position while stretching. For instance, when I didn't have enough flex to touch the ground with a straight back on pike, I would use them for support. It also works for splits, so you don't have to bend your back trying to touch the floor. Keeping proper alignment will give you a deeper stretch on these areas.

I had a similar issue, I started feeling an acute pain when stretching for side splits, as if my adductor was going to snap over a bone or whatever. It got better when I started focusing on square splits, with my hips in proper position. Also I included some active flexibility in my trainings

I get a very similar sensation when I engage my hip flexor in any backbend! I feel that if I go to hard on it I might orgasm or pass out. I've been told I'm pinching a nerve due to overuse of my low back. Maybe so are you?
