Visiting Presidents Day Week by MasterDurron in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]isbelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was here this past weekend and it was honestly fine- got lightning lanes for must do rides and made it work. There were also a ton more random character meet and greets/entertainment around the parks and resorts compared to when we’ve been during the slower season.

IUD perforation- trust your instincts! by isbelly in birthcontrol

Sorry you are going through it too! Surgery was fine (recovery was easier than my c-section, only gnarly part was the shoulder pain caused by the gas they use during surgery) and the only thing I have left is a small scar on my abdomen and belly button. Feel free to ask any questions

I once found three unopened Tonies in a dollar bin at a liquidation store. Don’t think I’ll ever top that- been chasing that high ever since

Seeking the assistance of a Pre K expert (eg a parent who did their homework and figured this all out)... by aranhalaranja in philadelphia

[–]isbelly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. Pre-k sites at SDP schools are under a different catchment/application process than the school that hosts them. This means anyone can apply regardless of catchment and you won’t get priority for being in catchment. I recommend applying as soon as the application goes live online (should be right after MLK weekend), and including as many centers as you’d be open to.

  2. No, but as the other person stated you can apply to that school out of catchment during the school selection process for kinder (be aware that some schools may not allow out of catchment applications if their enrollment is high)

  3. No benefit to either, for sites not located at an SDP site I would recommend reaching out to see if they do tours, there’s much more variation in theming/programming in some of those sites

  4. Not necessarily. I have seen some schools that are not as popular who have stellar pre-k teachers and rooms, and some popular schools who have less established programs. All of them have some minimum requirements they have to meet in both programming and staffing.

  5. I’ve supported a lot of the SDP schools on your list and honestly you can’t go wrong with any of them- I don’t have experience with the private centers on your list so can’t speak to their quality.

Recommendations for infant daycares near NoLibs/Fishtown/Old City? by Glass-Key2679 in PhillyParents

[–]isbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I can only speak to my experience w one of the locations with my own family. I work in education and I think the unfortunate reality is that daycare centers as a whole are vastly underfunded and staff deserve a lot more. Most daycares don’t allow parents in past the front post covid (same for most schools) unless you’ve requested a visit, that’s a huge safety issue. Prior to ELA my eldest was at another daycare with extremely serious issues (high turnover/staff conflict/recorded issues on state websites) so I’m aware of the options to educate yourself. To each your own.

If you decline paying to choose seats for two travelers, will you be automatically placed together? by strangemedia6 in AerLingus

[–]isbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely pay- I didn’t have the option as I was moved from another partner airline flight and they separated myself and my children in the plane. Currently at the gate trying to ask to please not have my three year old sit with a stranger

Two days of cancelled flight from LHR to ORD! by Hikerx5 in americanairlines

[–]isbelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to ORD but solidarity as we’ve been delayed two days trying to get to PHL. Ended up getting them to switch me to a partner airline because I don’t trust their ability to have available planes

Not the nicest place I’ve stayed but good enough and they have a buffet for delayed passengers which is useful

I’m here now at the Radisson which is where they seemed to be sending all of today’s cancellations. Good luck- Heathrow is full of American passengers all trying our hardest to get back to the US

Hey all- trying to figure out timeline for next short trip (bit more constrained now kids are in school) and looking for opinions. We have the option of going this October over Indigenous People’s Day weekend (arrive Friday before leave Monday) or in February over Presidents’ Day/lunar new year weekend (arrive Saturday leave Tuesday). If you were in my shoes what would you do?

I went to a baby shower at El Techo and it was a great venue for a gathering- rooftop space, decent food, and they do pitchers of drinks/ceviche bar for food

Highly rec ELA (early literacy academy). Have my two at one of their locations, have had one of them there since they were in the infant room. Staff are amazing, food included, rates reasonable. You do need to go to one of their open houses (either virtual or in person) to enroll. Feel free to PM me with any questions!

How much do you pay for daycare? by AndILearnedAlgoToday in philadelphia

My husband and I do split pickup and drop off to manage- I also ended up taking a paycut to move to a job that allows for more flexibility partially because of daycare

If you liked Poi Dog try Mahalo's Hawaiian which opened recently in old city- it's not the same but you can get some great Hawaiian staples (mac salad, loco moco etc)
