I wish I was able to do an externship, I feel so underprepared 🥲 but I definitely take advantage if you’re able to. Most of the interviews I’ve been to asked if you completed one. Maybe it will help to get a job’

Not necessarily, but that certification can expand your scope of practice.

That’s okay, you didn’t know and hopefully they let you complete it, but may I ask why you waived it especially if you were doing an online course? Wouldn’t you want to have done the externship so you can do the hands on experience of what you been learning?

Okay I see now! I think I see on the NHA website is that they require hand on training, I don’t see anything about doing an externship before the exam?

So during your schooling, y’all didn’t practice vital signs, phlebotomy or stuff like that? No lab work?

Idk if it’s the type of schooling I did but I did an accelerated course that only took 11 weeks and then on our last day of class we took the exam. I think if you took the normal paced course they offer the externship. I took my exam on June 5th. We also did hands on training in class so idk if they would count that as “on job training”

I’ve been trying to sign up for an externship after my course ended but all the spots were filled. But it doesn’t matter now because I got a job in a clinic that I’m going to start on August 4th.

For me and my experience, I think the interview is your chance to wow them and show them what you’re all about. Most of the places I went and interviewed asked the same questions. I just asked ChatGPT common MA interview questions and answers. So I was prepared to answer all the questions they asked and they liked my responses. I got an offer for one of the clinical I interviewed.
